19.01.2022 I was told recently by a new client what a great job a good copywriter does, and how surprised she was to have been in business, in sales, for so long without ever having come across one. Having had some success together, she was very helpful with some referrals for me, but concerned that none of her associates or colleagues would even understand the role copywriting plays in business and product marketing. It occurred to me that that isn’t their problem. It’s mine. I do get ...some funny, even blank looks when I tell people what I do. I had a finance broker tell me a while ago, after I’d offered to re-write his (somewhat bland and completely ineffective) website for him (he politely declined), that he already had a lawyer taking care of his copyrighting. This is an educated, experienced, reasonably successful businessman. Oh ffs. Ok, there seems to be some confusion here, I get it. Mad Men, the TV series starring John Hamm as the dapper Don Draper, was about copywriting. Copywriting is the creative science of producing the words used in advertising and promotion. We help people, businesses, sell stuff. There’s a lot of boring parts to the copywriting process. There’s a lot of product and market research, thinking & brainstorming. And drafting. We do a lot of drafting. Drafting is where copy gets sharpened, distilled, purified. Until the final message is so clear and persuasive your customers aren’t able to resist. It’s great fun if you like words. And it’s powerful, getting people to buy stuff. It’s very rewarding. So why don’t all businesses use them? Because there aren’t that many of us around. And some are better than others, as with anything. Big agencies keep them on retainer (like on Mad Men), and small businesses either don’t know about it, or try to take care of it themselves. Then there are professional freelancers, like me. But we’re not cheap. Fella’s got to make a living, after all. We stay busy by working hard for our clients, and providing a great service. I had an accountant tell me years ago that if my advertising dollar wasn’t returning $2, I was wasting my money. Good advice, I thought back then. Before I learned how to write copy. Now I think that’s pretty lousy. I aim to bring every one of my clients 10 times their investment in my services. And I do not stop until you get value for money. So if marketing is on your mind and you’ve never used a copywriter, why not give us a try? It costs you nothing to look, and returns a factor of ten if you buy! www.crashbanger.com
13.01.2022 SEO is evolving so quickly these days. It seems like only yesterday that keywords were primary to getting search page rankings. Then HTML meta tags and cross-linking became more important, and again the focus shifted to higher quality link-building. Now the goal posts have moved again; engagement is now the new measure of SEO success. Not to say that these things don’t work anymore, they are still fundamental SEO building blocks. 08.01.2022 Does your website show up on the Google map when you search for businesses like yours in your local area? If you do a search for restaurants in your suburb, for example, up will come a list of them, with their contact details and a distance from your location. All of these businesses are registered with Google +. All of the restaurants that you know that should be on that list, like the one you wanted to call but can't find, are not. 04.01.2022 WANT FREE ADVERTISING? GOOGLE PLUS YOUR BUSINESS. Do you notice how when you search for a business online, like restaurants, or mechanics in your area, the search results will come up with a map showing all the ones closest to you? All those that do show up are registered with Google +: https://plus.google.com/. If, on the other hand, you expected to find a particular business and don’t see it on that map, they are not.... This is an important, and free service Google offers to businesses, that gives web-surfers more relevant and practical search results. It’s one of the things Google does to add value to their service and encourage people to use their search engine. And more people using Google is good business for Google. But it’s also very valuable to your business. And you don’t need a website to register. Showing up on a local map of a generic search, on page 1, when people haven’t even used your name, is awesome free advertising. The people who do find you on that map are also specifically looking for businesses in your industry, and they’re more than likely ready to buy. So it’s not only free, it’s targeted to your prospective customers. Marketing doesn’t get much easier than that. Next time we’ll have a look at more free ways to improve your website’s SEO, and make your business easier for people to find. See more
01.01.2022 I just found a great site where you can check how the search engines, and your visitors, are feeling about your website. Your visitors can get annoyed if there are broken links on your site. It shows that you haven't been thorough making sure everything's working, which reflects on their perception of how you may deal with them as customers. Some websites have dozens, hundreds, even thousands of links. [ 165 more words. ] http://www.crashbanger.com/your-personal-site-checker/
