25.01.2022 Imagine sitting around this fire pit on a cool Spring evening! This Viburnum hedge will grow up thick and lush, providing an intimate feel and protection from the wind. One of my favourite formal gardens to work in, with uniform plantings, hedging and rows of Magnolias.

25.01.2022 This stunning Mudgee property was one of my latest landscaping jobs, it was a pleasure to work on and what a jaw dropping view. The owners who live in Darwin needed a garden transformation before putting their home on the market. "Thanks Christine youve done a wonderful job and youve been really easy to work with. Especially considering the distance! ... Its really looking great, I almost hope we dont sell" Dr Katie Browne Native plantings to complement existing plants, pruning, tropical look pool garden, extensive weeding/ mulching, tree removal, vegetable garden and orchard work. A comprehensive two month plan to have it looking its best for the first open house. https://m.realestate.com.au/property-lifestyle-nsw-mudgee-7 #realestatereadygarden #spruceupyourhome #mudgeeregion

25.01.2022 Use old spice bottles to store seeds, they also make it easier to sow seeds like radish, coriander, mustard etc. You can mix smaller seeds, like lettuce and carrot, with sand to get a more even spacing.

25.01.2022 "Go forth and garden" couldnt agree more Costa

24.01.2022 These so called weeds are additions to my salads, soups, frittatas, stews and of course my bees love them too Thanks Jackie Trott for sharing.

23.01.2022 A fantastic example of Permaculture in practice and a great explanation of what it means.

23.01.2022 What a beautiful day to be working in this lovely garden near Mount Frome. Now is the perfect time to tend to your roses, weeding the beds, mulching, dead heading and feeding, this will help them stay strong going into Winter. Sit back and admire the late Summer/Autumn flush of flowers. Try not to prune roses too hard until late Winter, best done when dormant.

23.01.2022 Protect your seedlings over Winter to give them a head start in Spring.

22.01.2022 Great tip for when water restrictions effect the establishment of plants.

21.01.2022 My chickens love their feeder and its worked perfectly for over a year now. Use recycled materials for a no cost feeder. Reduce food costs, keep chickens entertained and stop attracting rodents. Wins all round!

21.01.2022 This article explains why old tyres should not be used in gardens, especially food gardens. I am all for repurposing, tyres are great for building houses, look up Earthship buildings.

20.01.2022 Some free nutrition in your gardens, even more reason to garden organically. Edible gardens nourish and delight, a vegetable store at your door!

20.01.2022 Strawberries make a wonderful and productive groundcover for areas in part shade. This mass of strawberries is growing under a tree. This photo is taken at a stunning garden I work in at Running Stream.

17.01.2022 Tip of the week! When planting fruit trees or roses, remove the tag, then attach the label to a stake. Removing the tag from the plant and any other ties, eliminates the risk of constricting and killing the limb the tag is attached to as the plant grows. ... #fruittrees #permaculture #growyourownfood

15.01.2022 Learning new skills. Dry stone walling.

15.01.2022 Cannas are a fantastic way to get that tropical look in Mudgee. Two clients this week requested a tropical make over. Garden #1 was created using the clients own Cannas and Yuccas, which were transplanted to their new position. Garden #2 started with a bare slate and a stunning Buddha. My design included Star Jasmine to climb up the pool fence, tri colour Cannas, dwarf Agapanthas, Oyster Plant, Old mans beard and Buddlias along with other lilies and grasses making an instan...t Balinese paradise, which will grow into a lush, fragrant and floral space. I love creating gardens that people have been dreaming of, it makes my day to see a smile on their face. There are a few spaces left in March or April if you are wanting some help with your garden. 15.01.2022 Worm farms are a fantastic way of reducing waste, the worms will provide you with bucketloads of liquid fertiliser and nutrient rich worm castings for the garden. This worm farm has a lid built into the design that doubles as a bench seat and will keep the worms warm and out of sunlight. There is a section at the back left open to allow access to bucket that is placed under plug hole. Here is a worm farm I made entirely out of recycled materials, except for the screws. ... I broke down heat treated pallets, built a frame to sit the bath on, then clad the whole frame. Finishing off the lid with decking timber that was found curbside. These and other worm farm designs are all part of my permaculture consultation services. What recycled timber projects have you made? Would love to see photos for inspiration. #recycledwood #wormfarm #permaculture #palletprojects #permaculturewomen

14.01.2022 Sometimes, I just have to pinch myself! Working in this historic 1920s garden, that has won numerous awards, is a dream come true. 13.01.2022 Gorgeous view from a garden bed at Coolah Creek, these historic gardens are a pleasure to work in. Pruning a rose that is over 80 years old is a moving experience, contemplating all the hands that have pruned, loved and tended this grand old lady over the years. Her fragrant flowers will reliably bloom each Spring and into Summer. Roses bloom approximately 6 - 8 weeks after pruning. Pruning out older wood and encouraging new growth is paramount for the health of your rose. C...limbing, standard and bush roses require different pruning techniques. Remember to sterilize your pruning equipment between each rose to prevent spread of disease. Now is the perfect time to prune your roses, I have a few bookings available each week if you would like to learn how to prune your fruit trees or roses, or you can let me do the job for you. Call Christine 0417060224 $45/hr.

13.01.2022 Violets make the perfect perfumed ground cover for shady positions. Violets prefer moist soils but are relatively hardy, multiplying easily. Ground covers are your best friend in the garden, helping to suppress weeds, maintaining soil moisture and providing a sensory and textural effect in your garden. #shadeplants #groundcovers #permaculture ... #mudgeeregion See more

13.01.2022 Want to clean the glass on your wood burning fire? Use a damp piece of newspaper dipped into the ashes. It cleans better than any horrible synthetic chemical an...d its free. Keeping the glass clean improves performance; more radiant heat enters your room If you are installing one of these, check the emission rating. A well designed one will double burn, much like a rocket stove, and will produce almost no smoke. An inefficient one will pollute the air and all that particulate matter in the smoke is lost fuel and wasted energy. Energy is everything and everything is energy. #permaculture #permacoach #onemillionwomen #waronwasteau See more

12.01.2022 Many plants can be propagated by placing cuttings in water. Great activity for the kids! Here I am striking Elder Flower cuttings on my windowsill. Take a piece of plant stock at least 10cm long cutting just below a node, strip the lower leaves off the cutting and make sure the bottom 1/3 approximately is sumberged in water, some cuttings like succulents only need to be touching the water. For more delicate cuttings, you can use alfoil to support the stem, just place alfoil... over jar and punch holes to place stems through. The water will need to be changed weekly and topped up as it evaporates, some cuttings can take 8 weeks to strike. My Grandmother used to propagate all of her African Violets in water, not all plants are suitable though. Succulents, wormwood, geranium, indoor climbers all seem to produce roots easily in water. What plants have you successfully propagated, using this method?

09.01.2022 To grow Sweet Potatoes in cooler areas its a good idea to get them started indoors in late Winter. Store bought Sweet Potatoes are fine to use or you can buy from online stores. Place 3 toothpicks in top 1/3 of Sweet Potato so that 1/2 the tuber will sit in water. Place the jar on a window sill and wait. ... 01.01.2022 Are your Agapanthus not flowering as much as they used to and starting to look a wee bit shabby?
