22.01.2022 We are sooooo overjoyed to receive photos of our Crayon Rocks in their adventures in classrooms all over Australia. . . This week at @jl_montessori_house_fdc Miss Jo set up this gorgeous nature based play prompt for the little ones, using Crayon Rocks and materials gathered from the garden. .... . I love this as it’s a perfect way to include ALL the senses into play. . . Children love using their senses and when all of their senses are active and engaged it not only creates a fantastic experience, it increases engagement and concentration. . . To help increase and encourage your child to engage with their senses, you could use some simple prompts, such as; . . What does that smell like? Can you see any different colours? Are able to find something in the table that feels soft/scratchy/squishy? How does that make you feel? . . These are really simple questions, but they are a great way to encourage our little explorers. . . Thanks so much to Miss Jonathan JL Montessori House FDC. See more
22.01.2022 Today was spent with the littles making birthday cards and shopping for birthday cakes for Daddy, amongst packing orders, picking up stock and collecting treasures for our ‘pre-loved’ Christmas. . . It looks like it’s going to storm tonight too, so it’s a perfect night to curl up, relax and unwind after a big day. I really hope the kids get the memo and stay in bed. .... . How was your Tuesday? . . PS. The gorgeous picture has been shared with us by @lovelittledove See more
21.01.2022 Who says learning materials need to be expensive? . . I see this common trend in a lot of parenting groups and the need to have all of the ‘must have’ brands and products. .... . Don’t get me wrong, we do have a gorgeous collection of sought after wooden toys in our own play room shelves but honestly, our kids are happiest when they’re in nature. . . We often created opportunities for learning from what is around us. Why? Because learning is spontaneous and quite often when our little ones express an interest in something around them, we grab that opportunity to learn. . . This often means counting with seed posts, making shapes with sticks, dividing rocks into groups.... . . Our kids learn just as much from sticks and stones, as they do from their brand name materials. . . Coming into Christmas, I see so much pressure on parents to buy all the ‘must haves toys and while they’re nice, your little ones can create so many chances to learn from what’s around them. . . I love these pictures of our little ones counting with seed pods and reading the Australian themed animal books we picked up for free in our local street library. . . 20.01.2022 You'll have to swipe to check out this incredibly adorable picture sent to us by @twin.mumma.chloe that her girls drew of the baby in her tummy. Honestly, it makes me smile so much when I see it. I love seeing the world through the eyes of a child. " We've had a fair few rainy indoor days so lots of colourings and learning letters and numbers. I'm not a mum to brag or boast about my babes. But im pretty dam excited with the girls attempts to copy their n...ames. Oh and the picture with mummy with a baby in her tummy. 17.01.2022 " What crayon would quit in your home? If you ask our @crayon_rocks_australia - it'd definitely be the pink (Mr. 2s doing) and red (that ones my fault!) Today we're reading the book 'The Day the Crayons Quit' and talking about what colours we use most - and what we draw the most (trucks is the answer, pink ones). We're also using these story stones to play along with the book while we draw pictures to match! " Thanks to @story_ark for sharing this beauti...ful story and post with us. I love it so much. 16.01.2022 It’s a new week, can you believe it? . . We spent a LOT of time over the weekend cleaning, clearing and sorting our garage (ugh!) to help create a more organised and peaceful home. .... . The truth is, with four children at home and two that are doing home learning with me in the days, our house feels like it’s filled to the brim with learning materials. . . We do rotations with our toys and materials too, so the storage needed is getting crazzzyyy.... . . My three key works are ‘practical, pretty and prepared and it’s a really fine line between each of these areas. . . Practical: Is this space/material/activity practical? Is it able to be used independently by our children? Does it meet their needs? Is it relevant to their stage of learning? . . Pretty: we have a really large room downstairs that we keep a lot of our play and learning activities in, but the spaces that get used the MOST are the ones that are integrated into our main living areas, so given this, our play spaces need to look aesthetically pleasing and work with the room. We follow the Montessori philosophy so I also make sure our materials and activities are presented in a way that is visually engaging to our children. . . Prepared: I originally had the word peaceful here but I’ve exchanged it for prepared. As you all know peacefulness does not exist in a home with 4 children without being prepared. One key learning area for me with being prepared is to make sure my preparations are EASY. Our activities are simple, purposeful and can be set up with minimal effort on my part. I work with materials we have on hand, I repurpose and reuse and I focus on small, simple ‘changeovers’ to increase engagement such as swapping rice for beans in a pouring activity, instead of creating something entirely new. . . That’s being said, after cleaning and clearing all weekend, the LAST thing I want to do tonight is rotate playroom materials, so I am going to take it easy on myself and plan some fun, engaging outdoor activities at our local park and maybe a trip to the library. . . What are your tips and tricks for the playroom? . . Jessie . . PS. by _this_mamas_tribe See more
15.01.2022 I remember this time last year, EVERYTHING was so filled with Christmas joy. . . There was decorations everywhere, our feeds were filled with Christmas activities and shared lists of Christmas goodies. .... . There’s always that moment where something small happens and you get that Christmas feeling for the first time and it’s really exciting. . . 2020 just feels ‘different’ ... or is it just me? It feels a little less ‘Christmassy’. . . I feel like in some ways, we’ve moved forward from COVID, but it’s still kind of just here. Maybe in my mind I just want it to be gone. . . We did spend a lot of time this week making beautiful Christmas packs for our market stall with the family and it was really nice. . . It was fun opening all of the tiny Christmas balls, the beautiful snow coloured leaves and branches and ribbons.... spending time together and talking. . . I’m going to make a lot of effort this week to feel more Christmassy and being the feeling of togetherness into our home. . . I’d love to hear how you’re spending Christmas this year. . . 14.01.2022 Isn't this FUN? One of my favourite things is mixing drawing with sensory play and playdough is a GREAT way to do this. An added bonus is that playdough is a wonderful activity for fine motor development. As your child squeezes, squishes, pokes and rolls the playdough, they are building strength in the hand and finger muscles.... It's important to develop these muscles as they will be used for primary skills such as cutting, using cutlery and you guessed it, holding a pencil in the tripod grasp. This gorgeous image was created by @play.to.learn.mummy using @bio_dough and @crayon_rocks_australia Jess :) #crayonrocks #letsplaynumbers #makelearningfun #makingmemories #playislearning #playthroughlearning #learningthroughplay #toddleractivities #earlylearning #playtolearn #tinyfingers #montessori #montessorichild #finemotorskills #sensoryplay #montessoriathome #montessoriactivities #montessoribaby #montessoritoddler #montessoriinspired #ourjourney #everymomentcounts #imaginativeplay #playdiscovercreate #playbasedlearning #discoverunder5k #brisbanemum #pencilgrip #letthemplay See more
