21.01.2022 Chris Maund Joins Gallopers Stable of Winning Jockeys Gallopers is pleased to announce classy Toowoomba based jockey Chris Maund is the newest member of our stable of winning jockeys. Chris has ridden over 400 winners in a career spanning the last decade including over 20 for the David Hayes stable when he was based in Victoria in 2010. Chris even took up the challenge of riding in jumps races where he was also successful in riding a few winners.... Chris is a typical heavyweight hoop and has been working extremely hard over the past three months to get his weight down to be able to ride in races again. He is currently able to ride at 57kg but will get that number down in the coming weeks and months. Since Chriss return to the saddle in July, he has recorded two winners from only 23 rides and is quickly regaining his confidence. Throughout 2011/12, Chris maintained a winning strike rate of a winner very five rides which is an outstanding effort considering he could only ride at 56kg or over. Renowned for a beautiful set of hands, Chris is highly regarded by many leading Queensland trainers, some even considering the best in the state when fully fit. Chris rode a typically patient race last Tuesday at Murwillumbah to steer the heavily backed Hakakuna home to notch his first winner of the 2013/2014 season. Then on Saturday at Warwick, he showed his versatility but leading all the way on the Mark Webb trained first starter Clueless. Chris is truly a man for all seasons. 10.01.2022 Spinksy Doubles Up at Gatton Andrew Spinks continued his recent winning run when he snatched a winning double at Gatton on Tuesday. Spinks scored on first starter Harmon in the third event riding the perfect race from the inside barrier draw. Starting at double figure odds the John Thomas trained gelding finished the race off stylishly to win running away by over a length.... The Thomas/Spinks combination then made it a winning double when Chantilly Miss held off several late challenges to hang to win the Class 1 over 1400m. Coming from the outside barrier, Spinks was able to settle the mare outside the leader without doing too much work in the early stages before kicking her clear on straightening. The $5 chance hung on to win narrowly although she never really looked like being beaten in the straight. Both Thomas and Spinks were very pleased with the results after their respective races.
