25.01.2022 (30 sec read) Stigma is a word many of us have all been caught in as been the topic that is too awkward to talk about! What if stigma has a whole different meaning?... Would it encourage you to celebrate mental health? Or do you hop onto the next word and still believe it's a taboo?
21.01.2022 (30 sec read) Fortune Cookie #Friday! How would you feel if you were handed a script and you are to act your life off a piece of paper?! ... You would say "um.. no thankyou" right?! You are the director, you are the actor. Become who you are at your own pace. In the end only you are the superstar, noone else! Credit: @quoteoftheday
15.01.2022 You are at a point where you want something more. You are at a point where you have ticked every box, kicked so many goals, believing that yes this is it, "I feel fulfilled" . But you don't?... Why? You expect to feel good because you see, touch, feel the physical means you have in your hands yet the emptiness lingers. You are hungry for more. When you allow the environment to take over your mind, you give up and become complacent. What if you can take back control by reinventing yourself, doing/learning something new you would never think you would do and adapt to the environment? To grow, for you? (inspired by a conversation with @jo_muirhead & @robin.custer - supporting one another to thrive)
11.01.2022 (30 sec read) Fortune Cookie #Friday! If you avoided homework in school because it was too hard or you just didn't like the subjects, you will love this work, because you are the work! ... We avoid doing things because we are convinced we know it all or it is too hard. Working on you, taking care of you, magic happens. It truly does. You start to believe in yourself that anything is possible. What are you waiting for?! What is the one thing you have been delaying that you know you've got to start on? #emotions #feelings #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthadvocate Credit: @quoteoftheday
05.01.2022 Medicare is like a credit card. We swipe the card and it just stops there. The only action we need to take is to wait for over an hour just for a 5-10 minute consult with the family doctor. Do you really need to be ill to be begging for more help when all you want is to be able to talk to someone who understands and listens to you? You know feelings arn't easy to manage, you are already emotional with what is going on in your life and you are acting out because you are losin...g control. Understanding feelings takes time. To get an initial appointment with the psychologist through a referral from your family doctor under Medicare is already painful enough. You would be lucky to be on the cancellation list or have your initial session within 2 weeks when really, you need to talk to someone at the time of your crisis. As Jodie Gale comments, you want confidentiality and privacy. Whenever Medicare or private health insurance is used, your private information, psychiatric diagnosis (yes, you need a diagnosis to receive the rebate!), presenting issues, treatment plan and progress reports, are available to the insurance company, on MyHealthRecord.gov.au and at times, to employers, adoption agencies and when travelling abroad to some countries. Medicare, private health insurance and employee assistance programs often ask for detailed personal information about clients in order to make payment decisions. This review can undermine your sense of privacy and confidentiality necessary for effective counselling and psychotherapy. Once you have a ‘Mental Health Plan’ diagnosis, it becomes part of your health records forever. See how one woman lost her dream job due to her depression diagnosis! Reaching out and talking to counsellors, psychotherapists allows you to be in control. You decide who you want to see, you decide how many times you want to see your person. You want to grow and be better. You don't need to be convinced that you are sick. Who wants to be labelled sick? This shifts your mindset to the point where you really truly believe you are but there is something deep within you that you can discover who you are and really unlearn the habits and beliefs you thought were true all this time. You are the work. You are in control. Counselling and psychotherapy support, guide and elevate you to feel whole again.
