20.01.2022 The lads Nigel and Richard had fun on some feisty rainbows on euc. The lake is now on the drop But the midging continues.

17.01.2022 Just thinking about trout!

16.01.2022 Just another weekly report. Stating of with lake eucumbene. The lake is looking the best ive seen it since 2016. Grass is flooded, rainbow trout population seems to be back. The fish (browns) are still on yabbies and now looking up as bug activity is generating quite well. The bowns are putting on the weight quickly. In saying that the bows arnt too far off, after feasting on daphnia and nymphal type stuff for the last few months there are some great plump bows on offer. Pol...aroiding is really starting to pick up here. Tantangara dam. At 17 percent while snowy hydro fight the the Murrumbidgee to reduce it back to 10. The water is over grass that has grown from the 10 percent mark and is still fishing quite well. Fish are loving them midge hatch’s and small food items. Nymphing seems to be really productive. Jindabyne dam. Jindy is also creeping up fast as expected. And the fishing is still good. It just depends on weather as to how you approach and fish it. Polaroiding is still good as the fish are loving the edge now it’s rising I’d say it will get better as more fish will come in and fish won’t have there gaurd up as much as the rising lake is coinciding with a with the annual bug bloom. Fish are loving yabbies midge and nymphs. Pics of eucumbene on Sunday

15.01.2022 Snappy in the snowys. The lakes continue to fish really well while all lakes have a been at stable levels. Tactics differ form day to day depending on conditions but either way it’s terrific sport. We have plenty of spots available for the lake season if you wish to be fast tracked on snowy waters

13.01.2022 The river season might be postponed due to flood. But the lakes are surely on fire. Since opening I’ve been fishing lake Jindabyne and eucumbene. Both lakes seem to be loving the rising water and there are some brilliant fishing to be had. This weekend I fished euc with my father and we had a ball casting dry flys to midging fish. It took us a while to find the right patterns but we got there in the end. We were rewarded with magnificent browns from 3-4.5lb. And of course lo...st a few biggies around the 3kg bracket. Even the odd good rainbow! The lakes are looking fantastic. If you wish to hone in on your midge fishing skills book a guided day and enjoy the dry fly fishing while the lakes are up. Note: the duns are also coming off!

13.01.2022 Pejar dam mission for a change in scenery.. A few bigger fish hooked and seen tailing. But didn’t get the take. Very interesting little dam.

10.01.2022 Cracking day on the other side of the hill. Fishing a few impoundments. A couple rivers. My father was blessed with a 4 lb brown witch took a dry fly from geehi dam. And we got stuck into the fish on the lower swampy plains on the evening rise. Everywhere seems to be fishing good. Some of the mountains streams arnt quite there but in a couple weeks should be fire!!

10.01.2022 Interesting day and a half on lake Jindabyne. Fished various banks. found a few fish on all locations though some were better then others. Why? Wind! The fishing isn’t like it was a month ago but it’s still good and now the rainbows are starting to run and seem to be in range of the foot soldier. 2 solid bows hooked yesterday one around 3lb and another around the 4kg mark! Unfortunately they both spat the hook. The browns around 1kg softened the blow. And joyful to sight fish... too. Eucumbene has gone pretty quiet with patchy fishing. Rainbows are being spotted in schools preparing to run and seem to be almost impossible to catch but I’m sure they would be easier to get on bleaker days. The browns have returned but not on the edges just yet. I suspect our late winter/spring winds will bring them in when it arrives. Tantangara has been patchy also due to low levels but the browns have started to return and rainbows continue to make up most of the captures. When they are on you can get a handful of fish to the net. There not huge around 1.5lb but super fun. A lot of fish in that size bracket indicates that there was a successful spawn of wild rainbows as there is no stocking here. There is availability’s up until opening if any of the die hards want a trout fix!

09.01.2022 Some pics of the opening weekend. Seems that there weren’t that many fish caught due to high water levels from snow melt. Though it was great to walk streams again. This weekend might not be to much different after consecutive days of rain though hopefully it makes the snow melt quicker so we transition into the terrestrial season faster. Small streams weren’t as effected if you picked the right catchments and fish were keen to rise. Lakes.... Some alpine lakes were full of life. And others seemed almost void of life. The main lakes seem to be more consistent with Jindabyne overtaking eucumbene again while all 3 majors begin to creep up. After fishing euc for a few weeks. It went from yay to nay. The sudden rise in levels have left the fish out of reach during the day. Though the midge hatches bring them in within range if your willing to wait. Jindy browns are out and about with bad ass tude smashing your offerings if presented correctly. In fact there are also some good rainbows turning up in captures. This year was one of the best runs for rainbow trout we’ve had in years prior to opening. There are also some big salmon still on offer. Tantangara is rising and the portal just simply can’t keep up with what’s coming into the lake. The fishing is consistent with browns and rainbow making up the captures. All in all there is this exciting feeling that we are entering the wet years that our region desperately needs. See more

08.01.2022 Who loves a big trout? I do! I do!!

07.01.2022 Crazytrouthunter outfitters will not be operating this weekend due to personal fishing and scouting for the coming season. But will be taking bookings again from Monday. Hope everyone has a good opening! The rivers are looking good!

07.01.2022 Spring is here! Warmer days and strong winds! We have been waiting for spring as this is the time of year when the waves bash the banks of eucumbene and wash the remaining hibernating yabbies onto the Barron banks where they are mopped up by returning brown trout. And frog spawn season! yes!!! there back and in reach! A mater of fact at your feet! Jindy is still fishing good but seems to be slowly winding down. There are still plenty of fish on the edges but not as many as ...recent months. The average size fish seem to have dropped but on the right banks there are still the odd trophy within range but there not that easy to fool. Tantangara is on the rise! 14%. The portal simply can’t keep up with the volume of water feeding the lake as snowy hydro try to keep it around 10%. Returning browns are taking advantage of this and when the conditions are right they are up the soaks tailing and hunting marron. The bows are still on offer I’d say they would be following suit to the other lakes and will be starting there run very soon if some havnt already. The game has changed up in the snowies but for the better as we cruise into river season! Book now to capitalise on spring fishing in the snowies

04.01.2022 Hey guys sorry about the lack of posting. Not much fishing or guiding to be had due to sporting commitments and of course covid 19 The lakes are still fishing reasonably well. Jindy still the stand out and euc coming in a close second, tangy is fishing good on the right day but seems to be the most fickle due to low levels. We have had a lot of rain over the past 2 weeks so hopefully that continues. Time will tell us if the drought is at a near end. Exciting for our low land trophy trout waters.

04.01.2022 Few fish that my father and I have ran into during after work sessions. The midge fishing is seriously winding up. There is a few availability’s for this month. Make a booking for fast tracked midge fishing!
