25.01.2022 July 1 marks the beginning of Global Sarcoma Awareness Month, where we recognise those courageous individuals who are living with a sarcoma diagnosis, those who will walk this road behind them, and those who have tragically lost their lives to this cancer. It is also a time to acknowledge our loyal supporters, and those dedicated researchers and clinicians who work tirelessly toward a cure. The footprints that appear on the CRBF logo are those of the inspiring young man whose... name the Foundation bears. Everyday, Coops would place one determined foot in front of another. This is how he, and so many others, stood and continue to stand up to this cancer. Cooper’s footprints have become a recognisable symbol for our fight against sarcoma. So this year, CRBF is launching the #sarcomafootprint campaign, to help spread awareness about this neglected cancer. 1 in 5 childhood cancers is a sarcoma, and survival outcomes are some of the worst amongst childhood cancers, yet it receives less than 1% of government funding. This month, we’d like you to join us, as we spread sarcoma awareness. If you, or anyone you know, has been affected by a sarcoma diagnosis, we’re asking you to share the CRBF footprints on your socials, as a symbol of their fight. We encourage you to include a personalised caption to recognise the friend or loved one, and use #sarcomafootprint in the caption, to highlight how prevalent sarcoma is. Sarcoma has left a footprint on too many lives - it’s time we leave our own. Join us, as we aspire to make sarcoma history. #sarcomafootprint #curesarcoma #notgivingin #missingyoucoops

24.01.2022 Another remarkable family grieving the loss of a loved one, and helping others despite the pain they feel every moment of every day. If you have as little as the cost of a cup of coffee to spare, we urge you to consider doing so. Research will eventually reveal the answers to these unanswered questions, and the national sarcoma scientific body ANZSA directs 100% of all funds raised to the cause. #curesarcoma... #notgivingin #missingyoucoops See more

24.01.2022 As the sun sets sets on Global Sarcoma Awareness Month for 2020, we look to the future with optimism and hope. We thank those exceptional patients and families past and present, who have courageously shared their stories on the Let’s Talk About Sarcoma podcast series, as well as the sarcoma specialist clinicians and researchers who work tirelessly for cure, our national scientific body Australia and New Zealand Sarcoma Association for their high level expertise, and the sa...rcoma not-for-profits, that keep research alive with annual funding. In particular, we wish to acknowledge the outstanding efforts of @sockittosarcoma in WA, and the remarkable Mandy Basson, who partnered with CRBF to produce the podcast series. We also wish to thank the amazing and unflappable @cathrinemahoney and @wippa1, for their impeccable hosting of the series, donating their time for countless hours of interviews, together with award winning producer Darcy Milne (@propodcastproduction) for his professionalism, and flawless final result. A big thank you to @qms_media, @victoriaellison, and the Allchin family, for their generous gifting of the East Coast billboards, which generated an unprecedented response, and proved to be the icing on the cake for the month. The unexpected surprise of the month, came in the form of a fundraising campaign instigated by one very inspiring and exceptional young woman @Gerogie_katz. We’ll touch more on this beautiful gesture in the coming week. Finally, the tireless, behind-the-scenes efforts of Jordan Laing, who incepted the entire #sarcomafootprint campaign, and creative director @jludemanncreative, provided the perfect platform to launch our campaign. We move into August, with renewed hope in the knowledge there is finally a groundswell of positive change afoot, and for this we thank you, our loyal supporters, for supporting the research required to instigate critical change. We’re aspiring to make sarcoma history, and we’re not giving in. #curesarcoma #notgivingin #sarcomafootprint #globalsarcomaawarenessmonth #missingyoucoops

23.01.2022 We are live! Earlier this week, the CRBF #sarcomafootprint digital billboards launched at multiple sites in Brisbane, Melbourne, Gold Coast, and Sydney! We have taken our awareness campaign, during the heart of sarcoma awareness month, to the streets of key Australian cities, thanks to the generosity of @qms_media who donated this campaign in loving memory of Daniel Allchin, who lost his life to sarcoma in 2018.... We extend our gratitude to the remarkable team at QMS media, the wonderful @victoriaellison and the inspiring Allchin family, who each made this campaign possible. Also, huge thanks to Jordan Laing for putting the #sarcomafootprint campaign together, and to @jludemanncreative for designing the billboards. Keep your eyes peeled when you’re driving around! #sarcomafootprint #curesarcoma #missingyoucoop #notgivingin

18.01.2022 22/1/1999 - 24/8/2017 Find a purpose, find a reason, to fight, to want to be healthy, to want to get out of bed, to get out there and live your life. Do that, and you’ll never look back. - Cooper Rice-Brading, Final day of treatment, September 2016 Three years ago today, our world changed irreversibly as Coops’s battle with Sarcoma came to an end. ... Even though Coops doesn’t stand with us today, the manner in which he lived his life runs deeply through us all. Today, we’re asking you to live your life as Coops did. Make the most of every opportunity that comes your way, and don’t be defined by other’s expectations. Be the best version of yourself you can possibly be. At this time of year, the importance of our work becomes all the more salient. We thank each of you, our loyal supporters, for helping CRBF strive to ensure no patient endures the hell Coops was forced to live, at the hands of sarcoma. Coops’s absence has left a gaping hole in our lives, and unimaginable pain, but it is his spirit and passion which drives us each day. We’re aspiring to make Sarcoma history, and we’re not giving in. #missingyoucoops #curesarcoma #notgivingin

16.01.2022 February 4 is World Cancer Day. A day to wrap our arms around those living with a cancer diagnosis, to support survivors, and to honour and cherish the memory of those whose lives have been so tragically cut short by cancer. In 2021, the official World Cancer Day slogan is I Am and I Will. It is a powerful message, which reminds us of the power of collaboration and cooperation, and what we are able to achieve when we come together. This World Cancer Day, we ask ourselves wh...o are we, and what will we do? Cancer is the second leading cause of death globally, with 1 in 5 men and 1 in 6 women worldwide developing cancer during their lifetime. In Australia in 2020, the Australian Institute of Health Welfare estimated there would be just under 150,000 new cases of cancer diagnosed, and just under 50,000 deaths from cancer. We hope you will join with us in recognising the tireless work of cancer specialist clinicians, researchers, and health workers, who make a profound difference in the lives of cancer patients globally. We also wish to acknowledge the outstanding efforts of our Federal and State governments, and dedicated cancer organisations, for their continued support of research and cancer related services. #curesarcoma #notgivinin #missingyoucoops #worldcancerday #iamandiwill

10.01.2022 International Childhood Cancer Day (ICCD) is a global collaborative campaign to raise awareness about childhood cancer, and to express support for children and adolescents with cancer, the survivors and their families. (ICCD, 2021) Every year, more than 400,000 children and AYA’s are diagnosed with cancer, with Sarcoma accounting for up to 20% of these diagnoses. As the sun sets on the 2021 ICCD, we recognise and silently support those young patients and their families walkin...g this road, and cherish the memory of those whose lives have been lost. We thank those remarkable individuals and organisations who are immersed in childhood cancer. From the dedicated paediatric, and adolescent and young adult, nurses, specialist support staff, and medical oncology teams, to the passionate researchers working tirelessly towards a cure, the state and federal governments for their ongoing commitment to advancing children’s cancer research, and finally, the not-for-profit organisations, often driven by personal and devastating loss, which help support the research into a cure. Each of these bodies and individuals has an equally important role to play, as we strive collaboratively to find a cure for all childhood cancers. #curesarcoma #notgivingin #missingyoucoops #internationalchildhoodcancerday

10.01.2022 Vale Professor Martin Tattersall, AO Today the global oncology community has lost a highly accomplished scientist, a brilliant medical mind, and a man who has dedicated his professional life to curing cancer, with the very sad passing of Professor Martin Tattersall, AO, MD, ScD, MSc, FRCP (London), FRACP. Prof, as he was known to patients and medical peers, served as Coops’s oncologist throughout his battle against Sarcoma, and the two developed a terrific relationship. No m...atter how busy he was, Prof would always take the time to answer the 20 questions Coops came loaded with - a truly comforting act for a patient embarking on this daunting journey. With the inception of CRBF, Prof became a member of the CRBF Medical Advisory Board. Prof was a distinguished medical oncologist with a special interest in not only sarcoma, but also breast cancer and gynaecological cancers. He spent his professional life working toward a cure for cancer, securing approximately $20 million of research funding, and supervising more than twenty PhD and MD research students. He was a member of the esteemed World Health Organisation (WHO) Cancer Committee for 20 years, and a Life Member of the International Union Against Cancer (UICC) Roll of Honour. He was awarded the Medical Oncology Group of Australia (MOGA) Cancer Achievement Award in 2000. He also chaired the Australian Drug Evaluation Committee (ADEC) from 1997-2008. His belief over fifty years experience in medical oncology, research into cancer, and consequential advancements was this: Cancer is increasingly becoming a chronic disease as opposed to ‘it will kill you if you don’t kill it’. The answer may lie in a drug to turn a cancer off so you die with it, rather than of it. One of a kind, he was a gentle and compassionate man, understated, with a bright scientific mind, and a communicator like no other. Head to https://www.crbf.org.au/vale-prof-martin-tattersall/ to learn more about this incredible man. From all at CRBF, we extend our deepest sympathies to Dr Sue Tattersall, and to his sons Stephen, Mark and Peter, and extended families. #curesarcoma #notgivingin Photo: Fairfax Media

08.01.2022 Meet the remarkable @georgie_kats Wife to adoring husband Chris. Mother to a perfect baby daughter, Antonia. Well-educated. Hard-working. Giving. Head turning beauty. Advertising Director. Fit and healthy. A contagious love of life and positivity. A picture painted of an aspirational life. Exactly this time last year, Georgie and Chris were excitedly awaiting the arrival of Antonia when Georgie noticed an unremarkable lump on her foot. The consensus from the doctors who saw... it was nothing to worry about. She was young, healthy and her life was about to reach the peak of contentment. Fast forward one year, and Georgie is a new mum. She faces new challenges daily as new mums do. The difference between Georgie and other new mums is Georgie is living with a Myxoid Liposarcoma diagnosis, amputation, and a perfect life - altered in the blink of an eye. Despite the adversity Georgie faces, she still found the time and inclination to help others, encouraging her social media contacts to support the forthcoming IL23 sarcoma specific trial @garvaninstitute . We extend our deepest gratitude to Georgie, her family, and her friendship group for their outstanding generosity of spirit. We would strongly recommend you take five minutes out of your day, go to https://www.crbf.org.au/georgie-kats-redefines-remarkable/ to read more about this ultra-impressive young woman, who has become somewhat of a poster girl for being the best version of herself in the face of overwhelming adversity. #curesarcoma #notgivingin #sarcomafootprint

07.01.2022 22nd January, 1999 - 24 August, 2017 The most important thing is, even if we’re apart, I’ll always be with you - AA Milne Forever and always.... As we cannot go ahead with the CRBF Birthday Bash, we instead ask each of you to remember Coops today, and what he tried so hard to do for all sarcoma patients. In his honour, please do something small for someone who needs it - no random act of kindness is ever too small, and the impact you may have on someone’s day is immeasurable. #missingyoucoops #curesarcoma #notgivingin

02.01.2022 September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month The current situation at a glance Over 950 children and adolescent will be diagnosed with cancer each year in Australia.... One in five of these childhood cancers will be a sarcoma Each week, three children/adolescents will die from cancer. Two in five sarcoma patients will die from their disease. This increases if the cancer has spread upon diagnosis. Childhoodcancer survivors have a much higher risk of developing other malignancies later in life. 1 in 5 sarcoma survivors will go on to develop a subsequent cancer or another sarcoma within ten years. This month we shine the spotlight on the outstanding work of all cancer researchers, clinicians, dedicated nursing staff, treating hospitals and not for profits, whose focus is finding a cure through innovative clinical studies, improved standards of treatment and care, and funding research for childhood cancer. It is also a time when we remember those children undergoing treatment, those yet to be diagnosed, and those who have tragically lost their lives to cancer in this country. Sarcoma affects all ages, however it hits our young very hard. As a dedicated sarcoma organisation, we wish to specifically highlight the outstanding work ofDr Emmy Fleuren, Senior Scientist, Zero Childhood Cancer, Personalised Medicine Program, Children's Cancer Institutewhose research surrounding sarcoma specific high level tumour analysis stands to revolutionise the way we approach treatment for sarcoma in the future. Dr Fleuren joins her esteemed colleagues @childrenscancerinstitute working tirelessly to advance a cure for all childhood cancers. To hear more about Dr Fleuren's remarkable phosphoprotoemic programme in our recent Let’s Talk About Sarcoma podcast series, go to the link in our bio. or go to the CCIA website for further information on the work Dr Fleuren and her counterparts are undertaking. 01.01.2022 A hug in a bag for sarcoma patients nationally - over a year of careful design and consultation has led to the launch of the official CRBF Patient Care kits! Created in collaboration with our patients, the kits are available free of charge to those undergoing gruelling sarcoma treatment therapies in hospitals nationally. The packs include a silk eye mask and pillow slip, a fleecy lined unisex beanie, an @scoutactivebeauty facial scrub or moisturiser, specially designed for... cancer patients by founder Sylvie Hutchings, and an all vegan, all organic lip balm. To complete the kit, a set of luxurious unisex pyjamas, donated by the remarkable people at @peteralexanderofficial. All items are presented in a CRBF drawstring reusable waterproof backpack. Whilst most items have been generously donated, several months ago, a social media campaign instigated by a group of Coops’ school mates, funded the finishing touches to this important initiative. We are so very grateful for the generosity of each of our donors, and the difference their kindness will make in the lives of sarcoma patients who will receive these kits. #CRBFpatientsupport #curesarcoma #notgivingin #missingyoucoops
