22.01.2022 After careful consideration, in the best interests of the community, polling day workers and my supporters and volunteers, I have decided to not hand out my 'How to vote' flyers on election day. I want to thank my friends, family and supporters for offering their assistance in this election. It is my view that the public health risk is too great and the advice from the Australian Government is just too important to ignore. I urge all candidates to consider doing the same.... For those wanting to vote early, you can do so at 35 Hawthorne Street in Roma. It's a good idea to bring your own pen or pencil down to vote. If you could ‘share’ this post with your friends and family I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you Cameron The Western Star
22.01.2022 Polling Day for the 2020 Local Government Elections is underway and I'm asking for your vote to continue working hard for the region. We've got incredibly tough months ahead as we navigate the COVID-19 pandemic and the flow on effects to residents and businesses. More than ever, we need experience around the Council table, and I hope today that you keep that in mind as you cast your vote. I am focused on working for a brighter future for our region, for our kids and grandkids.... I humbly ask for your support today to keep working for you. Could I please ask you to 'LIKE' and 'SHARE' this post with your friends and family. Thank you Cameron -- WHERE TO VOTE - 8:00am - 6:00pm (Remember to BYO pen) Injune State School Mitchell Shire Hall Roma Cultural Centre Roma Junior School Surat State School, Yuleba Memorial Hall
22.01.2022 I’ve had a lot of positive feedback about Council publishing the recordings of General Meetings to their YouTube channel. Here is the link to watch yesterday’s meeting online. As a handy reference here is the agenda which will help you follow along: https://maranoa.infocouncil.biz//GM_22042020_AGN_613_AT.PDF I understand all the technology is now in place in the Council Chamber to facilitate live streaming of the meetings, so once social distancing policies are over and we ...return to the Chamber that is something the community can look forward to. It is such a simple and cheap way to increase transparency around decision making.
21.01.2022 I am committed to being a 'Regional' Councillor - working for and with every individual community that makes up the Maranoa. Over the last four years, I've held 15 Mobile Offices across our region in Mitchell, Injune, Roma, Surat, Wallumbilla and Yuleba. Your elected representatives must be accessible and accountable and I have been consistent in that approach. If given the honour of being returned as one of your local Councillors, I'll be continuing my Mobile Office initiative.
21.01.2022 Happy Mother’s Day to all the mums, especially to my wife Laney who has her first Mother’s Day today and my Mum who marks her 39th! I’m also keeping in mind that special days like today can be tough as well for some people. With the easing of some of the distancing measures, I hope there were some long awaited catchups with family today.
19.01.2022 Yesterday's Council meeting was a marathon session starting at 9am and finishing up at 8.45pm. Council debated responses for our community that have been impacted by COVID-19 restrictions among many other important agenda items. Here is the link to view yesterday's meeting, and the agenda can be found here to help you follow along: https://maranoa.infocouncil.biz//GM_13052020_AGN_614_AT.PDF... I see that the previous meeting has been viewed over 1,400 times online. It's so good to see the community embracing this access to our Council meetings - it's great that residents can see the decisions that are being made by Council. Keep the feedback coming.
18.01.2022 Today I was officially sworn in as a Councillor. A lot has changed since I was first elected in 2012 - and I was so proud to have my beautiful little daughter Georgie with me today. Our first Council meeting is on Thursday and I’m ready to get to work with a strong focus on helping our struggling businesses and residents in these challenging times. Thank you all for the support, it’s an honour to serve the Maranoa for a third term.
18.01.2022 Tune in here to watch the live stream of the Commerce Roma Meet the Candidates event
18.01.2022 Earlier today I took the opportunity to cast my vote in our local government elections at 35 Hawthorne Street (Old Blackwoods building). With the current situation around COVID19 impacting our lives and community it is a good idea to vote before Saturday if possible. It is unfortunate that the only pre-poll for this election is in Roma and this will be something I raise with ECQ for future elections. ... The times for voting this week are: Monday, 23/03/2020: 9:00am - 6:00pm Tuesday, 24/03/2020 9:00am - 6:00pm Wednesday, 25/03/2020 9:00am - 9:00pm Thursday, 26/03/2020 9:00am - 9:00pm Friday, 27/03/2020 9:00am - 6:00pm Election Day Saturday 28th March: 8:00am - 6:00pm Don’t forget to bring your own pen
17.01.2022 I wanted to share a couple of the reasons why I am standing for re-election to our Council. My little daughter Georgie has helped me with this one and before any haters complain about her being in the video, it was easier for me to hold her than mum (the camera operator)! Every decision I make is for the long-term future of our community. I’m not here for short term thinking. The reason I am putting my hand up again to serve is that I want to see more opportunities for our ch...ildren and grandchildren’s futures. With your support, I’ll continue to: - Sensibly manage Council’s finances to keep rates as low as possible - Drive more investment into our region to create jobs - Strengthen our rural industries - Advocate for more investment into our roads and water and sewerage networks - Make our region more family friendly, investing in parts and gardens, and our town CBDs. I’m approachable and accessible and importantly am a regional councillor - I work for every community that makes up the Maranoa. I’m asking for your support so that I can continue to work hard to advance our region. I'd really appreciate if you could share this with your friends and family. Cheers Cam Authorised C. O’Neil, 178 McDowall Street, Roma QLD 4455 for C O’Neil (candidate)
16.01.2022 Today I say ‘A Big Thank You’ to all the nurses that look after our community whether that be in hospitals, aged care facilities, home nursing or at our local Doctors Surgery. My Mum, Sister-in-law and Aunts are all nurses and I have seen first hand what they do for all us.
15.01.2022 One of roles I do in addition to being your Councillor is as Chair of the new Country Universities Centre Maranoa which is more commonly known as CUC Maranoa. Having this Centre in our region is an exciting development for our community. New students and current students of all ages will have access this to this state of the art Country Universities Centre by the New Year! Please like and share the CUC Maranoa facebook page so that more of our community know about this exci...ting opportunity. #CUCMaranoa #Degreescloser #Brightfutures #Growingourregions
13.01.2022 I've had two conversations today with people who can't get their hands on essential items for their families. Please stop and think of others before you empty out the supermarket shelves. I know it is tempting to stockpile goods, but before you purchase 10 of something, please stop and consider others who may be in a tough situation. Please think about those in our communities who travel in from remote properties every fortnight for their shop - who are now making the long tr...ek home without basics like milk and toilet paper. Please think about new mums who might be already struggling with adjusting - and who now can't get their hands on nappies for their bubs. Please think about our aged pensioners, and those living week to week - who simply don't have the cash to stockpile. Please think about those in our communities who have medical conditions that rely on certain products, simple things like lactose free milk, to stay well. All the experts and supermarkets are reassuring us that there is plenty to go around if we don't panic hoard the essentials.
12.01.2022 I came across this post today and had to share. Our communities will not be immune to the impact of COVID-19. The economic challenges are going to be felt across our region, especially as as we move in our cooler months and our peak tourism season. Please remember to shop local and buy from the bush.
12.01.2022 Here the link to view yesterday’s marathon Council meeting: https://youtu.be/bPsxJtNz2Xg Here is the agenda to help you to follow along: https://maranoa.infocouncil.biz//GM_27052020_AGN_615_AT.PDF If you’ve got any questions or feedback on the meeting please don’t hesitate to give me a call. ... I am overwhelmed by the interest and positive feedback that the community is sharing regarding the recordings of Council meetings. I’ve always believed that there is value in opening up our meetings to a wider audience through live streaming and it’s great to see the data is backing this up as video views are continuing to grow. The normal Council chamber is set up and ready to go for live streaming and I’m looking forward to that next step in transparency and accountability when COVID-19 restrictions are eased.
12.01.2022 This Anzac Day we all need to do things a little different, COVID-19 has changed the way we must live our lives. As a community we can show our respect to the fallen and returned service men and women of battles gone by and to the thousands of Australians serving in the Australian Defence Force by joining in commemorative services from home. The details are in the post please share with your friends and family.
11.01.2022 CUC Maranoa are excited to be advertising for a Manager to head up their new Centre in Roma, it would be great if you share this exciting opportunity across your networks.
08.01.2022 EARLY VOTING FOR THE MARANOA REGIONAL COUNCIL STARTS TODAY Early voting for our Local Government Election starts today at 35 Hawthorne Street in Roma. It's a good idea to bring your own pen or pencil down to vote. I'm asking for your support so I can continue to work hard to advance our region.... Every decision I make is for the long-term future of our community. The reason I am putting my hand up again to serve is that I want to see more opportunities for our children and grandchildren’s futures. Please ‘like’ and ‘share’ with your friends and family Thank you for your support Cameron
07.01.2022 A public holiday doesn’t stop the many volunteers getting fresh meals to our elderly citizens across Queensland. I am a volunteer delivery driver for Roma Meals on Wheels and today we delivered hot meals on a cold day across town. Mick and the team at Roma Bowls club do a great job in catering fresh, delicious and filling meals.
07.01.2022 This evening I had the opportunity to address the Commerce Roma Meet the Candidates event and share my vision for the region. Each candidate had 3 minutes to put forward the reasons for which they have nominated to represent our region. Here is my speech for those who weren't able to attend. I'd also really encourage you to watch the full forum here: https://www.facebook.com/CommerceRoma4455/videos/256434148710583/
05.01.2022 It is always a nervous wait as results continue to trickle in from postal votes from across the region. At this stage it is looking likely that I will be returned as your Councillor with a slightly increased vote from the 2016 election. I’m very heartened by the support and trust placed in me from the community. It takes a lot of guts to put your hand up and submit yourself to public scrutiny and I want to thank each of the mayoral and councillor candidates for nominating. I’...ve certainly valued listening to all of the other candidates about their ideas and vision for our region. I would like to congratulate Geoff McMullen on his re-election, as well as the two very impressive ladies Wendy Taylor and Joh Hancock on their election to our Council. I would also like to congratulate Mayor Golder on his re-election and his candidates George, Julie, Mark and John on their election to Council. If the trend continues, I’ll be joining these fellow Councillors in the Chamber where we can get on with growing and advancing our region. I would like to pay tribute to Puddy Chandler, who despite a strong run home with postal votes, unfortunately doesn’t look like she’ll be returned. Puddy is an incredible lady and a very hard worker. I’m going to miss her company on our mobile offices, as well as her contribution in the Council chamber. In the years ahead I hope to continue her great work supporting and growing our tourism sector right across our vast region. As I said to The Western Star the other day, we are in for very trying months and years ahead dealing with the impact of COVID19, and I am looking forward to working with the new Council on navigating our way through it all. 02.01.2022 It's been so nice to read posts and tributes on here from those celebrating International Women's Day. It's given me a nudge to reflect as well. I'm lucky enough to be surrounded by strong, confident, driven women like my mum Pauline who was a working mum, having spanned a 45 year career as a registered nurse, and who dedicated herself to providing care to our ageing community members. Mum has taught me the importance of compassion and looking after those who might need a han...d. I'm also a proud husband to my wife Laney. She is the most caring and nurturing mum to our little daughter Georgie. Laney's balanced her own career with my work schedule - no easy feat! She is my absolute rock and I couldn't do the things that I do without her by my side. I've also been really fortunate to have worked for a number of exceptional women over my career. One in particular is Leanne Kohler, whom I had the honour of working for when I was in Longreach those years ago, delivering grants to primary producers across western Queensland. Leanne is a true leader, and is someone I continue to look up to as a mentor and friend. I am reflecting more than ever before because I now have a daughter of my own, who is going to be fortunate enough to grow up in a world where she can achieve anything she sets her mind to - from the sporting field to the corporate boardroom. It is such a different world now to the one that my grandmother was born into. So this International Women's Day I am saying 'thank you' to the ladies that have paved the way to see that my daughter has a brighter future. But this bright future still seems out of reach for many in our community and there's still a long way to go, and as a society we've got much more work to do to put an end to domestic violence and all forms of discrimination. These are things that I will never stop working towards. Happy International Women's Day.
01.01.2022 I’m absolutely gutted to hear that The Western Star is moving to an ‘online only’ format. It plays such an important role in our community as a critical publication that holds your council to account, keeping us updated about all aspects of our Maranoa region.
