25.01.2022 Thanks to a $1 Million Grant from the City of Sydney, OzHarvest have launched the OzHarvest Hamper Hub to provide free food relief hampers and frozen cooked meals to vulnerable members of the community. I visited the pop-up hub in #Waterloo and got to see first-hand the work that OzHarvest are doing to support others during this difficult time. #foodsecurity #hamperhub #volunteers
25.01.2022 The Sydney Homeless Street Count is on the 3rd of August. This is a really important biannual study to count the number of people sleeping rough on the streets of Sydney. It helps Council to plan and direct resources to help those most in need. Volunteer numbers are limited this year due to covid but there are still some spots left if you are interested in participating. 25.01.2022 It was a pleasure to finally participate in the CanRevive Inc. 25th anniversary raffle draw after a few date changes due to COVID. CanRevive is a fantastic local organisation that seeks to assist Chinese-speaking people and families through their cancer journey. It is an honour to have reached 25 years of serving the community. I wish them all the best for the next 25!
25.01.2022 Thank you Brad Bennett, founder and CEO of Le Culinaire Hospitality Institute for giving me a tour of the new campus at the old Bristol Arms building on Harris Street, Ultimo. Brad started Le Culinaire two years ago and had a big passion to see that students were trained correctly in hospitality. The Institute specialises in offering nationally recognised training programs and qualifications that meet the ever-changing demands of the hospitality environment. The three storey ...building is made up of classrooms, commercial kitchens, a street-level cafe/bar and a rooftop function space and is due to be up and running in late July. Exciting times ahead for Le Culinaire! I look forward to enjoying a meal on the rooftop once it's open.

20.01.2022 As part of her political campaign, Clover Moore wants to divide the community over the use of Moore Park Golf Course. Clover likes to think that this course is only accessed by an exclusive club of elite golfers but in fact, it is accessible to the wider community with affordable membership fees and it is one of the few public championship courses in #Sydney. We should not have to decide which recreation is prioritsed over the other, #MoorePark #Golf Course only makes up a s...mall portion of the Centennial Parklands and it should not have to be ripped away from the community. Consultation is open until the 7th of December. I encourage you to have your say at https://www.cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au//creating-more-public-
19.01.2022 Thank you Philip and Andrew, for giving me a tour of the newly designed hotel rooms at The Grace Hotel Sydney. As the hotel was forced to close for two months due to #COVID19, an opportunity was presented to revamp the guest rooms and function spaces to give a modern look to the interior of The Grace Hotel while maintaining the old-school charm, I was very impressed with these improvements. Visit www.gracehotel.com.au/rooms to see the newly renovated rooms.

19.01.2022 It was a pleasure to meet with Maltese Consul General Lawrence Buhagiar. Malta and Australia have long been great friends. People-to-people links are at the heart of our relationship. The first Maltese-born people arrived in Australia as convicts in 1810, followed by the first free settlers in 1838. There are more than 175,000 people in Australia with Maltese heritage. Thank you Mr Buhagiar for your hospitality

18.01.2022 Thank you Senator Andrew Bragg for hosting a roundtable discussion with representatives of the #ChineseAustralian community. It is always valuable to meet with community leaders to discuss ways to further enhance government-community relationships.
17.01.2022 -- WINTER STREETCOUNT UPDATE -- The 2020 winter #StreetCount was due to take place in the early hours of Tuesday morning. Due to the recent outbreak in the Potts Point area, there is a need to consider the safety of both volunteers and rough sleepers given a large number are in the Potts Point vicinity. To ensure safety, an alternative model will be implemented where City of Sydney #Homelessness Unit staff do the Count over a period of a week. The next Count will be in February 2021.
16.01.2022 One the 2nd of July I wrote to the Prime Minister asking him to open our doors to protect those people in Hong Kong who risk arbitrary detention and trials without jury. I welcome the Prime Minister's comments that the Government is considering safe haven visas and I urge the Government to act on this as soon as possible. 14.01.2022 Thanks you Monica Chu and the whole Australian Chinese Charity Foundation Inc. for inviting me to be your returning officer at the AGM. Good luck to the new committee, trustees and Councillors on continuing the great work of ACCF. Your continuing work through the difficult times over the past few years has been amazing - Dilly Drought Drive, Bushfire fund raising and COVID support are just a few of the organisations who have benefited from your fund raising.

10.01.2022 I recently met with residents from Orwell Street, Potts Point who pointed out some issues in their street that Council had failed to attend to. I was pleased to hear that following the representations I made to staff, the dumped rubbish was cleared and street cleaners were on the street in record time! I will be following up with staff to ensure the repair of the brick wall is next on the list.
10.01.2022 Seems like the current consultation on the future of Oxford Street is a sham. Clover has already decided on what she wants and what she says goes apparently. This hasn't been brought to council. Not one mention to Councillors. Businesses on Oxford Street have been struggling from a decade of neglect by the city and now this. Whatever your view, make sure you let the city know #ShamConsultation #OxfordStreet https://www.smh.com.au//new-cycleway-planned-down-the-cent
09.01.2022 It was a pleasure to visit Mission to Seafarers - Sydney to hear about the remarkable work they do for ship workers visiting Sydney.Of course they are not able to host sailors from ships at the moment so they have pivoted to visiting ships delivering much needed supplies and comforts for these men and women who work so hard in often dangerous and difficult conditions. Thank you Reverand Un Tay for your amazing work

03.01.2022 I recently visited Jean Michel from La Renaissance Cafe Patisserie. La Renaissance is a wonderful french patisserie that is based in Waterloo and the Rocks and it was the first patisserie in the Southern Hemisphere to be awarded the prestigious Relais Desserts status. This patisserie makes up to 5000 macarons and 3000 croissants a week! Did you know it takes 3 days to make a croissant? ... It was great to learn about the operations of this small business and the industry from Jean Michel. I encourage people to visit La Renaissance in either Waterloo or The Rocks and try one of their famous almond croissants. #frenchpatisserie #smallbusiness #bigpassion
03.01.2022 It was a pleasure to recently attend the OzHarvest Food Market opening in Waterloo. With support from the City of Sydney and the NSW Government, a former grocery store has been transformed into a #foodrelief market with a 'take what you need, give what you can' philosophy to support the vulnerable community in inner-Sydney. The market will be open from Friday through to Monday from 10am - 2pm. Read more about it here: https://www.ozharvest.org/what-we-do/market/
03.01.2022 CBD living provides convenience and vibrancy along with its fair share of challenges. As Sydney grows and demand for CBD living increases, we are seeing more development occurring across the city. Construction noise, traffic, parking, cleanliness and general disruption have resulted in a steady flow of complaints to my office. I have been successful in assisting a number of strata communities to ensure these developments are carried out in a safe and minimally disruptive way. If you would like any assistance or if you have any issues with the way a builder is carrying out their work, please let me know.
03.01.2022 It was a pleasure to be interviewed by Liam Kennedy, an aspiring Journalist from UTS: University of Technology Sydney, discussing some of the items from a recent Council meeting. #studentjournalism
02.01.2022 https://www.afr.com//telstra-loses-payphone-fight-in-feder Finally a sensible outcome from the Federal Appeals Court. I raised this issue with Council in February leading to Sydney joining the original legal battle against Telstra. Telstra was trying to use its universal service obligation to roll out 300 payphones in the CBD of Sydney wherever it liked and without any planning approval whatsoever. Telstra claimed the massive installations (you know the payphones with the o...versized digital billboard) are a "low impact installation" and didn't need approval. The real reason Telstra was trying to install so many payphones was so it could roll out its massive billboards on the back of them - how many payphones calls do you reckon are made in the Sydney CBD? A sensible outcome and a win against corporate steamrolling #Telstra Paul Fletcher #5g See more
01.01.2022 It was great to have the opportunity to visit PCYC South Sydney with Barbara Ward to meet the Club Manager, Oliver and to hear about the wonderful work that he and the team do down in Redfern.
