23.01.2022 To assist in driving suburban economic vitality, Council is helping businesses and property owners to upgrade their shopfronts via a matched grant program. Funding will cover up to 50% of the cost of visual improvements to a suburban shopfront exterior, to a maximum of $5,000. The balance of the costs for the shopfront improvement (remaining 50%) would then be met by the applicant. Applications for the Suburban Shopfront Improvement Grant are currently open and will remain open until 11:59pm on Wednesday 23 December 2020. 21.01.2022 TODAY IS REMEMBRANCE DAY The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month the moment the guns fell silent on the Western Front after World War I has become a day to remember all those who served and all those who sacrificed in wars and conflicts since. It is marked by a minute’s silence in solemn ceremonies in towns and cities across Queensland, and many people wear poppies on their lapels in remembrance. Busy lives and competing priorities mean sometimes we can forget to ...take a moment out of our day to reflect and remember the dedication and sacrifice of our servicemen and women on Remembrance Day. This year commit to marking the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month with one minute’s silence. Switch your phone to Do Not Disturb, put aside that urgent report for just one minute, and remember. Let us honour those who honoured us with the ultimate sacrifice. Remember those who have given their lives in service to their country in wars and conflicts around the world. Remember those who have come home injured or ill, in body or spirit and remember those who bravely serve our country today. It’s just one minute. But it means so much.

05.01.2022 Phase 2 of the Trichogramma Wasp Trial commenced in Ascot. These little packets contain 1000 Trichogramma. Trichogramma are minute wasps, less than 0.5 mm long. They are not at all dangerous to humans or the environment, in fact, they are stingless! However, they are a natural predator of the looper caterpillar, one of the well-known pests in our local area. Looper caterpillar droppings can discolour roads, car paint and other surfaces. Trichogramma wasps have been used to control caterpillar pests in a wide range of horticultural and field crops throughout Australia.
