01.01.2022 I don’t always talk about Race, but I live it every day I am a black woman. I should not have less opportunity because of it. I should not be treated differently because of it. And I definitely should not be attacked because of it. ... My reality is that I need to work twice as hard to get half as far. Even if I put my personal life aside, do you have any idea how many times my stall has been rejected by an event or market, because there’s already an African exhibitor - and essentially one of us is more than enough. Or told that my products, that are being made just the way they have been for centuries in Ghana, are not polished enough for the clientele. There will come a time when your Instagram feed has no black squares. And the Black Lives Matter chants will be forgotten. But I hope we will all continue advocate for the marginalised, speak out against injustice, and show solidarity.
