We are proud to be recognised for the community engagement process on this project, which demonstrates the importance of co-design and a shared vision to deliver community endorsed planning outcomes. We would like to acknowledge and commend Woolwort...hs Group on supporting an extensive engagement process to help inform this significant project. We would also like to thank the fantastic architects at Taylor Robinson Chaney Broderick (TRCB) and MJA Studio and the planning team at Urbis for supporting our work on the engagement process. The partnership between the City of Fremantle, Creating Communities and AUDRC to deliver the Freo Alternative Project has again been recognised in winning the Big Ideas Small Project category at the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) Awards recently. This project which is led by the innovative and hard-working team at the City of Fremantle has really set the benchmark for sustainable developments when sub-diving housing blocks. A special congratu...lations also goes to Creating Communities own Andrew Watt, who not only worked on the Freo Alternative project but also worked collaboratively with the Future Bayswater Community group (as a local volunteer for the group) on the Bayswater Living Lab Project. This innovative project was undertaken in conjunction with Curtin University and saw Urban planning and Architecture students engage in a real-world planning program studying Bayswater Town Centre in 2017/2018 and the Industrial Area in 2019 using the Future Bayswater hub as an in-situ study lab. Future Bayswater and Curtin picked up both the Presidents Award and the Cutting Edge Research and Testing Award. Images: 1.
