24.01.2022 Over the last few years we have created a little ritual at the end of each term at Born Wise - CELEBRATION. This is usually offered via simplicity - shared food, dancing, picnics etc. But our end of year celebration is a little special. ... This year we celebrated 2020 together with a visit from the divine Tenille Bentley. Tenille shared a Sound Healing session with us (and then stayed with us for a picnic afterwards). I hadn’t realised Tenille had made this little video of her visit until now! I had no idea she was filming at the time and she has captured me mid-musical experiment malfunction - but real life learning recognises that learning happens EVEN when life doesn’t go to plan, right?? I love how Tenille captured the essence and magic that is Woodstone Farm (which really is the most special place) and also shares a bit of her own beautiful work in the video too. For me this video captures perfectly the style of community, collaborative, skill-sharing based education that I really believe in. Dogs. Chickens. All ages. Things that don’t go to plan. Things that flow beautifully! Wide open spaces. Movement. Colours. Chatter. Families and people coming together to share their soul purpose. Thanks Tenille for sharing your soul purpose with us. We’d love to have you back again in 2021!

17.01.2022 ACTIVATE HEART INTELLIGENCE Activating heart intelligence + managing the mind + managing the emotions = energy efficiency, increased coherence, enhanced awareness and greater productivity ~ Doc Childre... One night three years ago, I dreamt about a world where all living beings transmitted wisdom via the heart-space. I woke up from that dream at 3am. Feeling inspired - but also confused about what to do with that dream . So I decided to get playful and curious with it... I made a simple commitment to myself: that each decision for Born Wise (and @consciouseducationperth) would be heart based. Three years on and I have complete TRUST in exploring the role of heart intelligence in education. And as the quote above says, I have experienced energy efficiency, enhanced awareness and greater productivity in my work as a teacher. Not that I haven’t made a bucket load of mistakes. I’ve metaphorically (and quite literally ) been stuck in a spiral during 2020. But I realise that this is what transforming education means....it’s acknowledging mistakes. It’s allowing times for not knowing. It’s bringing in acceptance for the emotions and challenges that arise. Sometimes you’ll have grace. And sometimes you’ll be your clumsy, messy self - and you’ll make it down the path anyway you can . The heart works in curious but wise ways. During my yoga teacher training my teacher would often refer to the HEART - and he would ask: Why don’t we pay more attention to the heart while we are educating our children? Why don’t we? My middle son is 11 today. 11 on the 11th. This kid persistently challenges and exasperates me in my expectations. But maaaan, what he also teaches me....is how to not just work from the heart but to live from it. He reminds me that this heart intelligence stuff is not just pie in the sky. It’s a grounded, earthy wisdom. It’s strength and compassion while you ride whatever life throws at you. It’s also loaded up with kindness and discernment. And the world needs a bucket load of these things at the moment, right? Heaps of gratitude to the kids and families I have worked with in 2020. Bring on 2021

01.01.2022 ONCE UPON A TIME Shame dies when stories are shared in safe spaces. ~ Ann Voskamp ... We learn, heal and grow through the power of STORY. This is why storytelling is a huge part of my work in education. But story is not just for kids Once upon a time is how we survive and thrive - as a species - it is relevant to all ages. It is especially relevant to WOMEN. There was a time where they changed the way we women showed up in stories. They edited our roles. They deleted our wisdom. But it’s all returning.... On Thursday evening I was honoured to again share STORYWEAVER as a workshop with the Women taking part in @julietenner.love ‘s EMBARK EMBODIED LEADERSHIP (you might know Julie via her work @nourishingthemother?) Story has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. It’s always carried me - through childhood, uni, travels, childbirth, motherhood, work and play. The human brain is wired to learn through narrative. Through story. During 2020 I’ve been able to witness the magic and medicine that comes from sharing story in a group of women. And how many stories transcend ages and stages. On Thursday evening we collectively stretched our muscles of imagination as a circle of women. A circle ready to re-connect to this ancient practice. Ready to bring this art form into our work as educators, practitioners, change-makers and mothers. Pure medicine.
