It's all about their nose!! The most distinctive feature on the head of the saiga is its long, humped and inflatable nose that covers their mouth. Although it looks weird, their nose is extremely helpful. It prevents dust from entering their lungs during the summer and warms the cold air before it reaches their lungs during the winter. . The horns are their downfall! Unfortunately, hunters kill saiga because of their horns. As only males have horns, this has caused a great disproportion in the number of males to females in the wild. . The horns are used in traditional Chinese medicine and because of this the saiga are extinct in China and Mongolia and are listed as critically endangered everywhere else across Asia. . The decline in the saiga antelope population has been identified as one of the fastest population collapses of large mammals in recent memory. . Paradoxically, the death of the Saiga preserves life. To provide healing through its horns, it must lose its life. The Saiga, however, does not give its life willingly - its life is taken through the selfishness of others. Selfishness: I will do what ever it takes to preserve MY life and if need be kill you so that I may live! . Jesus' death also preserves life. To provide healing, He also needed to lose His life. Jesus, however, gave His life willingly - His life given freely because of His love for us. Love: I will do what ever it takes to preserve YOUR life and if need be I will die so that YOU may live!!! . J...E - Eastern Gorilla . The Eastern Gorilla is the largest primate in the world - a full grown male can weigh in at over 200kg. These males have a silvery saddle on their back that turns white as they get older, giving them the name - silverbacks. . Eastern Gorillas live in the rainforests of Africa in large family groups, numbering up to 35 members and are led by a single silverback. The males defend their females and offspring using their large size, charging and chest-beating. . They have massive canine teeth but are herbivorous - eating mainly leaves. They forage in the morning and late afternoon and spend a good portion of the rest of their day relaxing. At night, they build a nest on the ground made of folded over vegetation. . The Eastern Gorilla has been critically endangered since 2016 through disease, poaching and their habitat being destroyed. Gorillas are sought after as food and pets, and their body parts are used in medicine and as magical charms. . There is nothing the Eastern Gorilla can do to save itself, its immense size is no match for its enemies - it needs help from someone else to escape extinction. Likewise, there is nothing we can do to save ourselves, we also need help from Someone else to escape extinction. Jesus is that Someone!! . 18.01.2022 The world’s most BEAUTIFUL duck - The Mandarin Duck . Amazingly, the males only look like this in mating season. After this time, they moult and become grey li...ke the female. . Unlike most ducks, mandarin ducks lay their eggs in tree holes, sometimes nine metres off of the ground. When the eggs hatch, the ducklings crawl out of the nest and fling themselves out of the tree and free-fall to the ground below. As they are little fluff balls, their fall is cushioned, causing them no harm. The mother duck stands at the base of the tree with her head pointing upwards while they are jumping, uttering soft encouraging calls to her baby ducks. . 08.01.2022 We have reached day seven of the Advent count-down highlighting endangered animals to remind us that we all need saving and that JESUS CAME TO SAVE US ALL!! . J...ESUS C...A is for Aye Aye. . It's called an aye-aye and it does have big eye eyes, but it has long been known for being pretty peculiar in the hand department. . Aye ayes are nocturnal (hence the big eyes), and have extraordinarily elongated, bony middle fingers. These fingers are used to extricate grubs from trees - their third finger is thinner than all of the others and they use this finger to tap on a tree to find grubs. They then gnaw a hole in the wood and insert their fourth finger, which is much longer than the others, into the hole and use its hooked nail to pull out a grub. No other mammal has a finger like it - the middle joint in this finger is a ball and socket (just like our shoulder). But wait, there's more - they also have a tiny sixth finger, formed from one of their wrist bones. This functions like an opposable thumb, allowing the aye aye to wrap its hand around a branch and move through the forest. . The aye aye finds itself on the world's endangered animal list for three main reasons: the aye-aye is considered evil, the forests of Madagascar are being destroyed, and farmers will kill aye-ayes to protect their crops and for poaching. However, there is no direct evidence to suggest aye-ayes pose any legitimate threat to crops and therefore they are killed based on superstition. . One definition of superstition is "a belief or practice resulting from ignorance and fear". From his very first accusation, Satan has been spreading the lie that God is a dictatorial control freak posing as a loving and merciful Deity. Satan's claim is that God hates sinners and will and must destroy anyone who has deviated from "God's way". The sad news...most everyone believes Him. Even most christians believe that Jesus must hide us from God's "wrath". . So how does a loving God respond to these accusations? By shining a light in the darkness. How do you prove there's no monster under the bed - turn on the light. . Jesus came here as that light, to show all of us what love looks like - and as God is love, Jesus showed us what God's character looks like. Jesus lived a life filled with mercy; a life filled with care. He lived a life that made others so glad He was there. Never once did Jesus condemn or destroy a sinner and He repeatedly told others that if you'd seen Him, you'd seen the Father - he wasn't talking about looks, he was talking about character. He was saying that if God the Father were walking around on earth, He would be doing the exact same things Jesus was doing. Jesus was not someone to be afraid of - he was someone to be a friend of! . Jesus' lifework was to dispel the superstitions that had been spread for thousands of years about God's character, and give people a reason to stop running from God and start running to Him. . Just like the farmers kill the aye aye through believing lies, many people kill off their relationship with God because of a misunderstanding of His character. I'm forever thankful that Jesus came here to show us the truth! Their tube-shaped eyes are completely immobile, providing binocular vision which fully... focuses on their prey and boosts depth perception. Although their large eyes can’t move or roll like human eyes can, owls can move their heads nearly all the way around, allowing them to have a 270 degree range of vision without moving their bodies. . Owls can see clearly about eight times as far as humans can, allowing them to spot and focus in on a rabbit or other animal at a distance of about two miles. While we can see a candle flame at that distance, a small animal camouflaged in its surroundings would be hidden from us. . Owls have excellent night vision because they have a reflective surface behind their retina known as the tapetum lucidum. This thin layer allows light to reflect back into the owl's eye after its already passed through, giving the owl two chances to collect an adequate amount of light. . But the owl's amazing ability to see can't hold a candle to God's All-seeing eye. God can see EVERY THING because He's EVERY WHERE and He's got His eye on you!! But unlike the owl, He's not looking down on us with an attitude of predator on prey. He's looking down with an attitude of loving protection! . Psalm 121:3 - I lay down and slept, yet I woke up in safety. For the Lord was watching over me! . He is not a God to be AFRAID of - He is a God to be a FRIEND of! . How blessed we are to have our All-seeing, All-loving, All-knowing, All-powerful God watching over us EVERY moment of EVERY day! .
