07.01.2022 The flowers of the rare Eastern Queen of Sheba (thelymitra speciosa) are gorgeous, but did you know the leaves are also very interesting? These pictures were... taken by Terry Dunham in the Stirling Range National Park over the past week. He said the spiral leaves in the first photo are a great example of the leaf structure of these stunning orchids. The Eastern Queen of Sheba belongs to the spiralis complex of sun orchids that we have here in WA. Terry Dunham / The Wildflower Society of Western Australia (Inc.).

06.01.2022 We have had so many requests recently for more time-lapse videos so today we are delighted to share with you our newest variety and wedding favourite, Leonora (Auswagsy). Notice how she transitions from a buttery cream to a soft, ivory-white colour. We love her!

04.01.2022 WONDERFUL WILDFLOWERS There are carpets of colour on show in the heart of Western Australia's wildflower country as these gorgeous photos by Shelley Tonkin ...from Wheresshelly show. Shelley said she thinks Coalseam Conservation Park will be hitting its peak bloom this weekend and put together this "wildflower report" on Monday which she has generously shared with us. Thank you Shelley! "If you or friends are heading north over the next few weeks be sure to have a read of where to find the best wildflower spots!," she said. COALSEAM CONSERVATION PARK Lots of pink, yellow and cream everlastings and cream and yellow pom-pom heads out at the moment, especially along Miners Rest Camp Road and up near Breakaway (smaller patches near the Canola fields). Plateau Loop hike has lots of yellow everlastings & pom-pom heads up the top. Road into Coalseam has mainly yellow and cream pom-poms with patches of pink. The pinks will probably last another week before they start fading. Yellows will be around for a few more weeks. Coalseam will be at its peak for the next week if you like pinks. DEPOT HILL Lots of orchids out at the moment, particularly the yellow cowslips. Also saw spider orchids, donkey orchids, snail orchids, purple tassels, purple fringe lilies, egg & bacon shrubs, red & yellow cat's paws, pink and cream sholtzias, leschenaultias and lots of pink everlastings out the front. Look out for the arrows drawn in the sand, it means there's an interesting flower to see. The orchids may not last much longer with hot weather expected later in the week. PINDAR 10kms north of Pindar you'll find the wreath flowers. When you get to the fork in the road where the parking lane sign is, go right. The sign points left but most of the wreath flowers are on the right side. At the moment there are only a few flowers out with no complete wreaths. Give it another week. Nice everlastings in the bush on the way out. The Pindar Hotel is also worth a stop for tea and scones. MULLEWA Lots of cream and yellow everlastings in fields on the outskirts of town. Head to Lovers Lane near the Caravan park for fields of pink, yellows and creams. MINGENEW-MULLEWA ROAD Huge swathes of dense cream pom-pom heads along side the road between Coalseam and Mullewa. Turn off onto the road down to the Butterabby Graves for more dense cream pom-poms on the left hand side. More scattered down near the graves. YUNA LOOP Lots of cream and yellow pom-poms with pockets of pink everlastings. MINGENEW Showground Road has lots of pink everlastings, pink tape indicates some smaller orchids to see. Everlastings planted along the train line across from the bakery (always worth a stop!). YANDANOOKA Pink everlastings under the trees around Yandanooka South Road and Yandanooka Hall. Shelley Tonkin / Wheresshelly.
