25.01.2022 Self righteousness: There is a lot of this shadow state around at the moment- the judging of people who are not behaving according to the social distancing rules, the mother who pressures her children to easily manage their school work load at home, the husband who insists his wife put more effort into the domestic duties because she is at home full time with the kids, the taking of more than what is needed from the shop shelves.... Instead of denying our self righteousness, ...we can ask for forgiveness when we see this behaviour in ourselves. Otherwise it gets suppressed and we limit our potential for love and compassion in our lives. For support with working on your shadow please contact Jane @Creative Heart Counselling #shadowwork #forgiveness #compassion ##creativeheartcounselling #busselton

25.01.2022 #carolinemyss ‘All is One: when an entire tribe becomes infected with fear, that energy extends to its children’ Caroline Myss Children are very sensitive to fear so as adults we need to make it our responsibility to work with our fears, so we don’t pass them on to those we love. 25.01.2022 Mandala group making workshops - working together to paint a collective weave of images that enlighten kids and raise their happiness in the world and their futures

24.01.2022 A free holiday workshop I am holding at artgeo to support Mental Health Week WA. Limited places so please book via link below.

24.01.2022 I caught a very interesting show this morning on RN radio program Life Matters about mindfulness. Shannon Harvey (evidence-based health journalist) undertook a year long experiment on mindfulness and its benefits in her life. She was living with an autoimmune disease and had small children (including a one year old) when she undertook the study. It involved documenting her daily mindfulness practice of ~30 minutes a day. This practice is different from relaxation or other mi...nd activities in that we simply observe the thoughts in our mind and do not judge or try to change them. I first started this technique prior to kids and continued my practice with babies, toddlers and now school children. I had to be extremely committed but I was highly motivated due to an existing anxiety disorder. Shannons investigations show the average age of brains in people who practice is 7.5 years younger and healthier than those who dont practice. For anyone who has a relative or knows someone with dementia, you may be highly motivated to avoid this journey in your older years. If you can find even 10 minutes a day, this practice is profound in how it positively affects your daily life. See more

24.01.2022 Holistic counselling using art therapies such as sand play can have quick and profound results. This is especially the case with children, who often only need several sessions to resolve issues such as phobias, low self esteem and fears.

23.01.2022 The age old battle of the sexes, separating the smalls. To all the men out there who struggle to see how bras and delicate woollens don’t mix well with dirty work jeans but still make attempts to do the washing, we see your attempts and promise to work on practising gratitude for your efforts

22.01.2022 This is a great resource for car trips- especially those long ones on holidays which can quickly descend into irritation with families contained in a small space! David Williams caters for adults in his stories and they can even be heard multiple times without the older members going crazy. WARNING- Perhaps dont listen to The Demon Dentist if you are about to go to the dentist and have any fear of one. Dont think mum has recovered since she heard this one. #cartripresources #cabinfever #familycartrips #familyaudiobooks #davidwalliams #creativeheartcounselling #busselton

22.01.2022 Goddess and archetypal images painted by girls to promote qualities of strength, protection and calm in their lives.

21.01.2022 A few weeks ago a 91 year old farmer asked me if I had heard of a modern technique being talked about called grounding. Connecting with the earth through our feet. He shared an observation that he had made 40 years ago in Brookton on the farm, after seeing differences in the health of his pigs. Some pigs were kept in pens with concrete under feet. Other pigs were put out in paddocks on bare earth. It didnt take long to put two and two together - the pigs on bare earth got ...far fewer illnesses, were happier and far more productive than the pigs who were not walking and living on the ground. We are now seeing the loss of this connection with the earth and the impact it causes on our health- particularly our spirits. Kids need as much time as possible without shoes and touching the ground. Several minutes of running on the ground barefoot helps kids in calming moods and lowering excess energies which we all can benefit from. #grounding #healthykids #holisticcounselling #creativeheartcounselling #busselton See more

19.01.2022 This is a good resource for parents buying devices for kids this Christmas.

19.01.2022 Nothing better than a skip bin full of building off cuts than can be recycled into a cubby. Kids need opportunities to be creative more than ever these days without so many rules, monitoring and restrictions in their lives. The advantage of taking a little risk that they might get a graze teaches them that life does not have to be faced with fear. Given the high fear levels we are experiencing in every facet of life lately this really needs to be encouraged in our kids.

18.01.2022 Vulnerability Not the easiest emotion to express, especially when we learn as children that being vulnerable is not ok. We may have past experiences of being hurt by those around us when trying to express ourselves, so we can easily learn to hide this emotion. And yet its the best way to connect with others. Even if this means crying on the cabinet makers shoulder during the build process. Thanks John for being there and not running away in terror...

18.01.2022 My sons year 6 teacher gave the kids a task to design a menu and cook a meal for the family. So last night we sat down to a lovely family meal with feelings of gratitude and love shared over food. Kids need these types of experiences to see how they can be independent and valued in a family - getting positive reinforcement and self worth from activities. Such a great initiative by his teacher. Kids are easily motivated by adults who respect and value them so perhaps this activity could be worth a try for those parents out there who are looking for ways to strengthen family connection. For support with parenting and family relationships please contact me on 0401655344 or email [email protected]

18.01.2022 This is one venue I use for counselling at the 7th day Adventist church and school site in West Busselton. They have been so accommodating during the past 5 months and I am very grateful. Today I cleaned windows and lightened the room energy - which can get stale in places that arent used much. A new couch and some cushions has lifted the feel. Their support allows me to keep my counselling costs affordable for my clients which is something we all need in todays tough times.

17.01.2022 The dark side of anger- I got angry yesterday as I struggled away with my 9 year old and homeschooling. Ive had to do a lot of work on suppressed anger over the years. Its not uncommon for women to be in this boat. There was a lot of anger in my childhood so I can be very uncomfortable with it- in myself and others. John Sanford writes Anyone who has had the task of raising small children knows how impossible it is always to be a model of holiness, and how dark ones emot...ions can become from time to time under the burden of parenthood, or the stress of living with an unrelated spouse. But Paul (in New Testament) offers a woman no alternative but to resolutely cut off all the dark side of herself, and to feel bad about herself should it show up. Not only is this impossible, it is not even desirable. A woman, like a man, needs the dark side of herself in order to become an individual. Moreover it is not anger as such that injures children, but repressed, unrecognised anger. Children instinctively understand anger when it is expressed in a related way, but they cannot stand the kind of rejection that occurs in parents who are unable to face their dark side. See more

17.01.2022 Anima(the feminine within) verses Animus(the masculine) in our psyches at play in the house building process: Me - I would really like these creative old upcycled doors on the entrance to the walk in shower (calm positive female/anima stance) The Male collective- Thats not going to work, its not a good idea for all of these reasons...(rational, logical, problem solving as per the positive masculine position ).... Me- attempts to over rule the male collective unsuccessful via tantrums and sulking as I bring out my best negative female/anima behaviour

16.01.2022 Some of the beautiful Heart Art watercolour pictures that we did on the weekend- painting sad feelings and then enlarging positive ones to allow release and healing. These techniques can be learnt in young children onwards and what a wonderful resource to have as they grow and experience all of lifes challenges. Thank you to everyone who came and the sun for showing up perfectly for each workshop- how lucky were we! More are planned on school holidays and will be up soon for bookings.

15.01.2022 Warning signs of the impending mosaic life crisis.... She starts secretly hoarding items in her craft cupboard that are for her eyes only She only seems interested in bathroom design shows and wants to talk shop with tilers about grout and mitred edges She takes great delight when the cat smashes the guilded mirror that your mother in law lent her and to your worst fears, was irreplaceable... And the floor becomes a minefield of tiny glass shards that pierce the unsuspecting barefoot as her creativity takes over the whole home See more

15.01.2022 Oil pastels school holiday workshop at art geo and we were lucky enough to have the beautiful sunlight streaming in to the fodder room for the whole time. 15.01.2022 Talking to friends yesterday it reminded me how the son has an amazing interest in bird keeping- he has just added peacocks to his flock of exotic birds. We all need support when we have dreams and gifts, to be believed in and encouraged as Abraham Hicks says below; ‘ When a child has a dream and a parent says, It’s not financially feasible; you can’t make a living at that; don’t do it, we say to the child, run away from home You must follow your dream. You will never be joyful if you don’t. Your dream may change, but you’ve got to stay after your dreams. You have to.’ #abrahamhicks #followingyourdreams #kidsmatter #encouragekids #creativeheartcounselling #busselton

14.01.2022 Couples counselling for ducks April couldnt understand why Jeremy never seemed to listen or do the drakey jobs he should be doing and in her frustration she learnt to constantly quack at a high pitch all day long in his ear.... Jeremy couldnt understand why April needed to quack at him endlessly when all he wanted was to chill out and have some peace and quiet in his life. The jobs could wait....

14.01.2022 Clay- a great medium for expressing emotions and allowing healing to take place in the body.

14.01.2022 SCHOOL HOLIDAY HeartArt Workshop There is still a couple of spots left for tomorrows class on painting gods and goddesses- using archetypal images to draw strength, protection and other qualities we need more of in our lives to help with the tough times. 13.01.2022 Oil crayons or pastels are an excellent medium for kids to draw. Much more vivid and creative than the bad smelling chemical textas or poor quality pencils they often use at school or home. You can get a packet from places like Hoolee Dooleez and they make a great cheap present for kids. At first some find the messiness on the hands a little challenging but the experience of the result is really worth persisting. Here is a picture my 10 year old did last year and how the colour really stands out.

13.01.2022 Some kind words about my counselling business from my supervisor and teacher Dr Trish Sherwood : Superb active emotional nurturing and cultivation of empathy and emotional intelligence... inspirational and so needed services for children adolescents and families

12.01.2022 Heeding wise women wisdom: When we were growing up all our friends and cousins had bunk beds but mum refused our requests as she couldnt handle making them up. She preferred the coffin style bed arrangement in a room (right in middle and feet facing the door ). So of course my natural inclination on becoming a mother was to hunt down a 4 man lift job South African acacia bunk bed for our shed house. Husband had to haul it onto his roof rack in pouring rain to get it home (Im still paying for the exercise dearly via back massages ). After wrestling with the bloody thing when changing the sheets and losing a few fingernails Im starting to understand albeit a bit late, the old girls wisdom...

11.01.2022 A hint of the craft activities for the upcoming school holiday workshops at ArtGeo Cultural Complex for Mental Health Week WA

09.01.2022 Some helpful pointers for those of us with kids in the 7- 14 yrs stage of the lifespan, thanks to Dr Trish Sherwood: -This age group needs clear rules and consequences at home and school for their actions (families need 5 clear consistently enforced rules in the household eg. No hurting anyone physically, completing agreed jobs to earn pocket money, looking after pets, making their bed, etc) - They need to find out what they really love doing out in the world and what their s...pecial gifts are, which enables high self esteem and focus in their lives -They can be exposed to images of darkness only if these are countered with images of goodness and light, with the good always winning over the bad (eg. Harry Potter), otherwise mental health can be compromised, for example, by the onset of anxiety in later life phases -This age is when empathy, team work, cooperation skills and sensitivity are developed, the basis of which are learnt in the home and modelled by the family unit -Bodies are growing rapidly, especially in this era, so lots of healthy wholesome foods, fresh fruit and veg- a focus on greens, low sugar and minimal processed foods is important. -This age group needs plenty of engagement in nature so they can nurture creativity and imagination in their feeling lives. If academic pressure is excessive their creativity will be cramped and this has major repercussions in their future relationships, career and health.

08.01.2022 A four leaf clover found yesterday. The more time you spend in nature the more you will find what wonders are out there to be discovered. A great exercise to get kids involved in searching for this rare treasure at spring time, if you can access farmland or pasture.

08.01.2022 Another Xmas gift idea - A holiday workshop for kids in January at artgeo on gods and goddesses- painting a specially chosen god/goddess and learning how to breathe their unique qualities such as strength into our bodies. For bookings head to @artgeoculturalcomplex on Facebook and the events section. #archetypes #holisticcounselling #godsandgoddesses #creativeheartcounselling #artgeoculturalcomplex #busselton #schoolholidaysbusselton #heartart

08.01.2022 Lately there's been news about people posting poor reviews on service they received and the fallout for those involved. People are using reviews more and more these days when they decide on places to visit or stay. So how we deal with these experiences affects everyone around us at the time and often for a long time afterwards. Do we say something face to face or post it afterwards? Last weekend we had an experience at a cafe in Pemberton where the kids' meals were missing o...ne of the main ingredients. Interestingly there was an obvious energy when we arrived, that things were not flowing so well that morning. Instead of leaving we gave the cafe a chance. After we realised the mistake with the food we let the manager know when she came to our table. She seemed terrified that we might post a bad review after I joked that people seem to do this these days. A new staff member was in training that day and they were under pressure. We thought that was it but after a little while the manager returned and offered the kids a free food/drink to make up for the mistake. We had moved on and accepted the situation (without expecting any offer) so this was a really nice and welcome gesture. It completely restored our faith in the cafe and we left feeling wonderful. It's amazing how much constructive feedback with kindness goes a long way. See more

08.01.2022 To all the dads out there for this Sunday

08.01.2022 Finally getting to read some notes today uninterrupted -after the kids have just gone back to school! I have this fabulous quote from Bernard Lievegoed : When children learn their times tables by clapping or stomping them, they learn them at an earlier age and better than if they are forced to learn them sitting still. Thats another nail in the coffin for my attempted career in homeschooling

07.01.2022 A second session has been proposed for Saturday afternoon at 2pm. Morning is now fully booked so please register interest via email or phone below. Yay- finally artgeo will reopen next so I am fortunate enough to run my workshop on the big re-opening day, Saturday 27th June. Flyer below with details. There are a maximum of 8 allowed so please let me know if you would like to book a spot.

04.01.2022 With great excitement I have been asked to collaborate with ArtGeo Cultural Complex to run a series of low cost and some free workshops to support Mental Health Week WA in October. Details to be announced soon so please keep an eye out and follow ArtGeo Cultural Complex page as well if interested.

03.01.2022 I found this written on my nice NEW washing line not long after it was put up 18 months ago - when we moved to our block. Its a nice reminder for today especially. Amidst the recent events (just saying if you dont do so well at the homeschooling role -who me??), your kids still think their mums are so wonderful and thats reassuring Happy Mothers Day

03.01.2022 Young girls up until the age of puberty are connected to their fathers energetically. This means they will love spending time with dad, running to the gate when he comes home for example. As mums we can feel a bit left out or bewildered by this connection if we dont understand and support this special time in this family relationship. Dads have an important role to play during this time as they are setting up their daughters to be drawn to the very qualities in a partner tha...t the father is currently modelling - is he protecting her, keeping her safe, reminding her how beautiful she is (inside and out). These actions help her to grow into a strong self confident young woman. Dads taking daughters out to do things together like getting their nails painted is a great way for this bond to be strengthened- I recall accosting dad with nail polish while he was completely distracted watching footy on the tv - hint for any young girl out there . Or getting a daughter a bunch of flowers on valentines or their birthday. Ill never forget when my young daughter got some- her face said it all. Writing a small card or note with a positive comment on a daughters body image is easy to do and has profound results in how she values her appearance later on. Girls remember these small actions in their hearts forever. For further support and creative ideas on relationships and families please contact Jane

02.01.2022 More encouraging findings on the benefits of pets for kids: ‘In a Philadelphia-based study of 50 boys ages 9-15, exposure to animals seemed to not only reduce symptoms of hyperactivity and oppositional behaviour, but increased the children’s learning capacities’ (Golen & Walsh 1994). #pettherapy #emotionalliteracy #familypets #creativeheartcounselling #busselton

01.01.2022 A video produced by lovely Matt from Matt Riley Studio and organised by ArtGeo Cultural Complex to show some of the workshops I offer at artgeo. Thanks so much to John and the artgeo crew for their support. I feel privileged to have their backing and shared enthusiasm for bringing more light in people's lives through art mediums.

01.01.2022 Using clay to express sad feelings and resourcing qualities to heal our hearts. A great group for the clay workshop at artgeo and some amazing creations. #creativeheartcounselling #claytherapy #creativekids #artgeo #busselton #emotionalliteracy

01.01.2022 A sandtray showing how we can use resources and archetypes to protect us and separate out someone in your life that you need very clear boundaries around. Great for kids with phobias or fears, for example, let alone adults . The problem character is in the corner with lots of fencing and barricades to separate them from the client. This process is profound in how it provokes actions in ones life to move to empowerment from helplessness with a presenting therapeutic issue.
