20.01.2022 This is incredible and not in a good way. Perhaps we need restricted access to UVC sources to stop morons from irradiating people? Germicidal lamps like these are designed to kill pathogens and are used to sterilise air and water for everything from clean rooms to laboratory air and water to laminar flow air units for burns victims. UVC (or shortwave UV) and in particular 254nm or 2480angstroms causes polymerase dysfunction, basal cell carcinomas, DNA damage/mutations and wil...l generally fuck your shit up. Only a moron mistakes long wave ultraviolet sources (BLB, usually with Woods Glass filters which are dark blue when off) for UVC shortwave sources (which have translucent envelopes when off). Extremely dangerous, as the Philips warning points out. UV is radiation. Everyone exposed - technically they have been irradiated - needs thorough checking because long term health consequences could be serious and even irreversible. I see a lawsuit looming. PS... there is no such thing as a 'healthy' tan. PPS ... UVC is arguably great for species diversity but really terrible for individuals of that species. See more
