19.01.2022 We need to change the way we design and build homes in Australia though it seems that Aussies are still in the dark about what that means. A couple of hints; double brick isn't the way to go and double glazing isn't just for the cold climates. Choose a designer and builder wisely, cookie cutter, 'one size fits all' homes designed by people that have no idea of how a home should function, isn't the way to go. And it doesn't have to be expensive. I know really good, private builders that can compete with the prices of the project builders. So get yourself an energy-efficient, bespoke home that suits your family and your block perfectly, it will be well worth it in the end.

16.01.2022 For those of you that love Sustainable designs, here is a great magazine and it's sister magazine called "Renew" all about sustainable living.

09.01.2022 I know that WA has long stood for Wait Awhile, but really, when we are the Sunshine State, why are we so far behind in renewable energy? As the largest state, we have the perfect base for solar and wind energy. The state needs to lift its game. I know personally the tight grip that Western Power has over this state. They are bullies and it is time that the Feds, put a stop to it and looked after the ratepayers for once! https://sourceable.net/feds-blocking-states-on-renewable-e/

08.01.2022 I love seeing my designs come to life! It's always exciting. This little apartment has it all. Great for guests or as an Air B&B. The cabinetry is actually a kitchenette where a fridge goes under the bench top, or it can just stay as a desk. The shower is huge and has a great separate toilet. Thanks to Tracey from Shekinah Construction for showing us through.

04.01.2022 I heard some alarming statistics today about new home builds in Western Australia from a good friend that draughts for a Project Builder. 93% of homes built in Western Australia are built by the top 12 builders. 97% of homes built in the South West are built by the top 7 builders. Now if you are one of the seven, you will be patting yourself on the back and saying well done. That means, with over 10,000 registered builders in Western Australia, only 7 are getting all the... work in the SW. No wonder builders are finding it tough. Over 9993 builders vying for 3% of the work. The problem is that most new home clients are pulled in by the great and expensive marketing/advertising that the top 12 or 7 can afford to have done which in turn gives them more work. Who do you think is paying for that advertising? Now I would like you to consider with me what this actually means to the consumer and some questions that need to be asked. 1. Is the house designed for you and your family and the block that you have bought? 2. Have you spoken with the designer directly? do you even know their name? I'm not talking about the company, I'm talking about the actual person who originally designed the house? Would you know them if you saw them in the street, or at your sports? 3. What experience do they actually have with the functionality of a home and how much do they really know about energy-efficient designs? Have you asked? 4. Have you met the actual builder? Not the company, the guy who will be actually doing the work? Have you seen the quality of his build? So often we see a finished product, that is plastered over and painted and decorated really nicely but actually don't see the quality of the work done by those trades. They can walk incognito past you and you would have no idea that they are the ones responsible for their poor or even faulty workmanship. You see, if a big builder has trades that mess it up, they can wear it, it doesn't really matter in the scheme of things as they aren't personally responsible for the issues. But a small builder puts his name and his livelihood on the line. A designer and builder can actually save you money in ways that you probably never considered. As a designer, I can help you before you even buy the block; explain the pros and cons of a block and how it will affect your way of living. Did you know that you can have an energy-efficient bespoke home designed and built by people who know you, and listen to you and help give you the best home for your family and the block. You may be surprised, it may not be as expensive as you think and you will find new friends that are invested in giving you the best for your hard-earned money. What have you got to lose? Maybe some time? But you will gain so much more.
