22.01.2022 We all know how important it is to warm-up our bodies before we exercise, but did you know that before getting creative our minds could also do with a warm-up? This Term we worked with our Creative Schools’ teachers, creative practitioners and students to co-design Creative Exercises - a series of fun and engaging 15 minute warm-up activities responding to Healthway's ‘Go for 2&5’ and/or Act Belong Commit campaigns. We're super excited to announce these will be compiled into a useful handbook for teachers to customise and use in class! Make sure you subscribe to Creative Schools news here https://creativeschools.com.au to be the first to know when the handbook is released. #gofor2and5 #actbelongcommit #creatinghealthierwa #creativeschoolswa #creativeschools #creativeschools2020 #healthway

22.01.2022 Motivation, persistence and academic performance have a direct correlation to feelings of belonging. It's also important to remain connected to friends, family and your community to maintain mental health. Noting the similarities and differences of those around us teaches empathy and tolerance; how to respect and learn from others, see the value in differences and form relationships. For this particular Creative Schools warm-up at @Merriwa Primary School, Teachers Naydene Du...ffill, Erin Purcell, Renee Rogers and Creative Practitioners Charissa Delima and Andrea Tenger wanted to foster a sense of belonging in the classroom. Students were asked to organise themselves in a series of different groups (referred to as blobs), based on statements around shared characteristics or experiences such as eye colour, hair colour, what was eaten for breakfast, favourite ice-cream flavour or method for travelling to school. This outdoor game proved to be a fun ice-breaker, which helped students form new bonds and discover while we are all different, we are also the same. #actbelongcommit #healthway #healthwaywa Healthway

20.01.2022 Last week the Creative Schools class of 2020, comprising over 60 teachers and creative practitioners, shared stories of deep learning, transformation and creative bravery, as they reflected on the strategies they used to place the joy of creativity and student agency at the heart of the curriculum. Well done and thank you so much to everyone for your hard work - what a fulfilling rollercoaster of a year it has been!

16.01.2022 Can a cabbage be collaborative? Why is a papaya persistent? What characteristics make the kiwifruit inquisitive? In this Creative Schools warm-up, Leila Sugden and Cristy Burne - Author and science writer asked Wembley PS students to think outside the fruit bowl to invent reasons why a particular fruit or vegetable demonstrates one of the five habits of learning - imagination, inquisitiveness, discipline, persistence and collaboration. The fruits of their creative and critica...l thinking included gems such as "a mushroom is persistent because it can grow even without sunlight", and "a broccoli is collaborative because you need dozens of florets all working together to make a head of broccoli." This warm-up not only got the students thinking creatively but also provided some inspiration for healthy eating, reminding them of Healthway's advice to "Go for 2 fruit & 5 veg" when it comes to making food choices.

10.01.2022 Creative Schools works to enhance student agency, empowering students to direct and take responsibility for their learning, which in turns helps to cater for their unique qualities and needs as individuals.
