24.01.2022 WHAT IS THE COST OF KEEPING UP WITH THE JONESES? We’ve all had pangs of envy over the Instagram posts - profiles with the dream locations, new watch, luxury car, new designer shoes. What’s worse is when it’s our friends who we know earn about the same as us. Why can’t I have those nice luxuries myself? But for all I know they could be genuinely successful, have super rich parents/spouse, or be completely broke. If you find yourself thinking like this, maybe it’s time to thi...nk about the following: Stop comparing yourself to others Everyone has a different journey with different financial goals. You don’t need to go and get the new iPhone on the first day of its launch or buy that flashy new car that will put you in debt for years. To be honest, no one even cares. It is the game of comparison that makes us think we are ‘supposed’ to be doing this. Every morning think about the future of your family, your financial goals and what you are going to do to accomplish them. Start asking - will it bring me joy? If you are have an old TV and think upgrading it is really going to help, by all means, go ahead provided you can afford it. If you want something to impress others maybe reconsider if that is where your hard earned cash is best spent.

20.01.2022 What’s happens to your credit report if you miss a credit card repayment? Households across Australia are feeling the pinch. For some, a little cutting back here and there will get them through, but for others, the situation is much more serious. It’s easy for some to justify missing a credit card payment, or two. But what happens now? 1 If you fail to make the payment within 14 days of its due date, it will be classed as repayment history information, and will remain on yo...ur credit report for up to two years. 2 If you fail to make the payment within 60 days of the due date, and the amount owing is $150 or more, it will be classed as a default, and will remain on your credit report for up to five years. 3 If your payment remains unpaid after 60 days, and is $150 or more, it will be classed as a serious credit infringement. Before a serious credit infringement is recorded however, the provider must send you a written notice to your last known address. If you fail to make contact or repay the amount owed within six months, the infringement will be recorded on your credit report, to stay there up to seven years. According to the credit reporting agency Experian, just one missed credit card repayment could see your credit score dropping 22%, even if you’ve never missed any credit card repayments before. That drop increases to 26% if you miss two repayments, and as much as 42% if you miss three or more repayments within a period of three months. If you have any concerns about your history of paying back credit card debt, get in touch, we can help.

19.01.2022 Have you checked your superannuation contributions lately? If you’re employed, your employee should be paying a percentage of your earnings (a minimum 9.5%) directly into your super account. It’s worth checking that you’re being paid the correct amount. To see how much super your employer is paying you, you can check on your payslip, myGov account or super account. If you can afford it, you should also consider making extra contributions as a way to boost your retirement ...savings. Salary sacrifice or salary packaging is when your employer pays part of your pre-tax pay into your super account. These payments are taxed at 15% which, for most people, is lower than their marginal tax rate so you pay less tax while boosting your retirement savings! There is a limit to how much you can contribute at this tax rate and the effectiveness of salary sacrificing depends largely on your individual financial situation, so you may want to consider getting financial advice from a qualified adviser before requesting or agreeing to a salary sacrifice arrangement.

10.01.2022 Let's talk about BOUNDARIES. Don't ever feel guilty or ashamed of setting FINANCIAL BOUNDARIES. Financial boundaries empower you to say to the things that aren't a priority to you and to the things that are. Financial boundaries require you to have the courage to say NO, but just remember your own dreams and goals. Racking up debt and overspending to cater to other people's wants will only slow down your own financial progress. Love and friendship should not require you t...o go into debt or delay you achieving your goals. It's easy to do the things everyone else does. It's much more difficult to do the things no one wants to do, but one of the reasons many of us end up in bad financial situations is because we are making financial decisions to please other people. But if you want to make progress financially, you have to not care what other people think. It can be hard to say NO, but harder saying YES knowing that you’re about to spend money on something that might delay you achieving what you really want. Once you’ve tried saying NO a couple of times you’ll be amazed at how free it makes you feel.

04.01.2022 CREDIT MYTH Checking your credit score will damage it. FACT...... Simply checking your credit score will have absolutely NO IMPACT on it. However, when lenders, such as banks, look at your credit history to decide whether to lend you money, or how much, this is known as a hard enquiry. A lot of hard enquiries over a short period of time can have a negative impact on your credit score. So, we suggest you limit the number of applications you make for credit - especially if you're planning to make a significant purchase soon, like a new home.
