10.01.2022 SEEKING LARGE DOG BLOOD DONORS IN THE ARMIDALE AREA! We are urgently seeking owners of large dogs to contact us about becoming a blood donor to assist in saving lives. It usually takes 10 minutes and is for the most part quick and easy to do. Animals can donate a maximum of four times a year (every 3 months) however red blood cells are replaced after just 1 month. One bag of blood can save 3 dogs from life or death situations. Blood donors should be;... -Between 1-7 years old -Weigh at least 30kg -Be healthy -Ideally would never have had a blood transfusion in the past -Have a friendly and obedient demeanour -The ability to lie still for 5-10mins A blood donation is collected from the jugular vein (the large vein in the neck) over around 5-10 minutes. The blood is then dated and is refrigerated for a maximum of 3-4 weeks. The blood donations can be needed to assist in the support of surgical procedures, parvovirus, snake envenomations, toxicities and anaemia or bleeding disorders such as haemophelia, ratbait ingestion, etc. If you think your dog may be eligible please contact us at ASAP at Creeklands Vet Surgery on 67712899. If eligible, your dog will be placed onto a donor register at our clinic and called when needed. We will give your pet a free health check and a couple of treats after the procedure. Thanks to Claire for the photos of Pirate Pirate gave many donations in the past and saved many lives. Such a good boy!
