09.01.2022 Since early 2019 CREST ENG. has been providing Project Engineering and Construction Management services to the Warragamba Dam Drum Gate Refurbishment Project in western Sydney, NSW. This project is being successfully delivered in a somewhat challenging environment including the December 2019 bushfires which surrounded the dam catchment, and the February 2020 significant rainfall event, which resulting in localised flooding and a rapidly rising dam level! Warragamba Dam suppl...ies water to more than 5 million people living in Sydney and the lower Blue Mountains, with construction of the dam wall being completed in 1960 including the pouring of approx. 1.2 million cubic meters of concrete! The 27m wide drum gate forms the primary flood control structure within the spillway crest at Warragamba Dam, enabling the controlled passing of floodwaters. The drum gate is a floating steel structure, hinged along the upstream edge to the upstream crest and lowers into the dam wall to allow water to flow over it. When fully open (or lowered), it forms a continuation of the crest profile. The drum gate opens automatically as the dam level rises above full supply level, and can also be manually opened. This refurbishment project was undertaken to ensure ongoing reliability of all components and systems of the drum gate operation, to increase operational flexibility, and reduce the risk of managing future flood events.

02.01.2022 From mid 2018 we have assisted WaterNSW with 2x roles of Construction Managers on delivery of the Metro Dams Upgrade Project. The Sydney Metropolitan Dams, constructed between 1907 and 1935, supply up to 30% of drinking water to the Macarthur, Illawarra, Wollondilly and Greater Metropolitan regions. The project involved the upgrading of electrical, control, instrumentation and communication assets at six locations including Avon, Cataract, Cordeux, Nepean and Woronora Dams, and the Nepean/Avon Tunnel.
