24.01.2022 Vale Tzaadi Lane. It is with profound sadness that the Creswick Theatre Company acknowledges the death of Tzaadi Lane. Tzaadi bought to life the character of David in Moving On in 2019. Despite his onstage inexperience; his portrayal was delivered in a professional, gentle and sensitive manner; endearing him to cast, crew and audience alike. We had hoped to see Tzaadi in future productions, but sadly the universe had other plans. To Holly, Tim and Jenni and all your family and friends we want you to know that we are thinking of you, wishing you hope in the mist of sorrow and comfort in the midst of incredible pain. Words seem inadequate to express the sadness we all feel about the loss of Tzaadi, we will remember this precious young man always.

12.01.2022 In the theatre there is a tradition whenever the theatre is empty we always make sure to leave one light on. Typically its on a stand in the centre of the stage, this light is known as the ghost light. There are many stories about its origin, but its meaning is unmistakable. It means though the theatre is empty (dark), we will return to douse it, and start another show, another season, another concert, another performance. So heres to the ARTISTS! ... The technicians, the electricians, the carpenters, the mechanists, the riggers, the loaders/unloaders, the freelancers, the directors, the designers, the stage managers, the actors, the dancers, the teachers, the students, the creators, the stitchers and the makers, the ushers and the patrons, those in rep and those on tour, those in receiving houses and those at sea..... Many of us have and will take big hits during this time of the virus. Financial and emotional weight have come crashing down as our entire industry is reduced to nothing but a load of ghost lights. But those ghost lights are temporary place holders. They are a sign. We might be down now, but our passion, our creativity, and our drive stands alongside those ghost lights that stand centre stage, that we will be switching off and unplugging in no time. But until then, heres a GHOST LIGHT to let the world know WE WILL BE BACK, When this storm has passed. WE WILL RETURN TO DOUSE IT. - share if you care about theatre Creswick Theatre Company will return to douse our light! -thanks to Spencer Ramsey for posting this on The Ballarat Stage

07.01.2022 An open letter to the members, past members, friends and supporters of our dear little theatre. Dear friends, Creswick Courthouse Theatre is a wonderful asset to our community. It has provided a venue for years of very entertaining shows, some great musicals, hysterically funny pantos and even the odd serious drama. It presents opportunities for young and old to learn new skills, revitalise forgotten talents and be part of a big happy creative family.... 2020 was looking good for us. We had secured the rights to Hannie Rayson’s very topical script Extinction, a story of power, love, betrayal and environmental destruction. As this is also on the secondary curriculum, we anticipated attendance from local colleges to boost our numbers. Pre-production planning was underway for our July all ages show Wanda’s Monster, a rollicking tale of an imaginary friend and a motorcycling grannie. Our Christmas show was under discussion and had almost been locked in. There was to be some street theatre and a show at the theatre during the Creswick Harvest Festival. I had already secured my bee suit when that was cancelled. You all know the rest Covid-19 and everything shut down. With the partial re-opening of venues and services, we are still unable to provide live theatre due to the size of our building and the limitations that puts on audience numbers. Anyone who has attended a show knows how cosy a full house is! Meanwhile, the building continues to cost money. We have rates, power, water and insurance. We have been improving the building with the installation of better facilities for cast and crew and are currently waiting to hear of a grant to insulate. We have no income from our productions this year and expect none. Our only source at this time is memberships. We are requesting that all of our friends and followers, recipients of our newsletter, followers of our Facebook page, ex-members and your family and friends renew your membership this year. Membership is $15 and the period is July 1 to June 30, 2021. Your renewal will help us keep the wheels turning as we wait for easier times when the performing arts are again viable. I also encourage you to offer a small donation when you are renewing. Jenni Sewell
06.01.2022 Don't miss your chance to be part of the local version of Australia's Couch Choir! . Virtual Soul Choir is asking people to record a video of them singing "Ra...y of Sunshine", an original track composed and arranged by Ballarat musicians Geoffrey and George Williams. . The home performances will then be pieced together to create a music video as part of the City of Ballarat's Be Kind Be Creative program. . To get involved (just like Janelle Ryan and her very cute family has), upload your video to www.virtualsoulchoir.com by Thursday 30 April. #BeKind #BeCreative See more
