23.01.2022 From Leah: The Power of Diversity in Law- Marrawah Law One of the driving forces behind my decision to establish my own legal firm was to diversify the business of law not only to provide diversity in the faces sitting across tables from clients, but to fundamentally change the way that services were delivered- focusing not just on the black on white on pieces of paper but the importance of relationships.... In my view different perspectives and viewpoints lead to more innovative thinking and more well-reasoned arguments. From a business perspective, we truly appreciate diverse ideas and the value this generates for our clients. Thanks to Lawyers Weekly and @jerome Doraisamy for sharing my 'why' in business and my journey. :)

20.01.2022 First Australians Capital is a national Indigenous-led organisation with a focus on early-stage and start-up businesses. They "nurture a growing pool of sustainable, innovative entrepreneurs..... If you need business support, access to networks or finance, (they) can help. First Australians Capital is funded by philanthropic donations and social impact investors.... (They) fund Indigenous businesses to start-up, scale and grow and support them with wrap-around support services. North Queensland Indigenous business North360, with Thomas Holden, is involved.

20.01.2022 Economic Development Fund applications are open until Friday 27 November Tablelands Regional Council’s Economic Development Fund is open and accepting applications. ‘This important funding program supports initiatives that help grow the economy to support businesses and create more jobs and economic opportunities,’ said Mayor Rod Marti.... It’s a great opportunity for not-for-profit groups, such as chambers of commerce and industry groups; and businesses looking to fund a cost-neutral community project. If you have an idea that could help businesses grow, develop new skills, capture more visitor spending, plan for critical infrastructure, or attract investment to the region, make sure you apply. One of our success stories from last year was Malanda Chamber of Commerce’s Christmas campaign. The chamber used their $5000 to purchase equipment for a street shopping night and shop local campaign. The event was a great success with 1200 people enjoying the night of shopping, entertainment and launching of the shop local initiative,’ said Mayor Marti. Gail Barton from the Malanda Chamber of Commerce appreciated the support the fund provided. 'The Economic Development Fund greatly assisted the Malanda Chamber of Commerce in funding the resources needed so that this can become an annual event. The event promotes the ‘shop local think local’ campaign and encourages people to support their local retailers. The marketing paraphernalia we purchased with the funds will be used for future events, which is very beneficial to us, especially as we are a not-for-profit organisation without funds for advertising,’ Ms Barton said.

18.01.2022 From the Cairns Chamber of Commerce ..... Small Business is a BIG Deal It's a simple statement but one that speaks volumes. There’s been a lot of talk lately about small business and its importance to communities and the economy, but now with the election weeks away, all political parties need to show how they plan to back your success.... We’ve developed our 2020 Election Priorities focussing on the vital support you need now, but also on what needs to be invested in to generate and sustain businesses into the future. Over the coming weeks, we’ll keep you informed about who's committing to those policies, so you know who’s backing your business for success. Help us make sure business remains front and centre during this election by joining and supporting our ‘Small Business is a BIG deal’ campaign. Like and share our social media posts and tag in your local political candidates so we can amplify the voice of the business community across the entire state. Importantly help us tell your story. If we can highlight your concerns, please contact us at [email protected] It’s going to be a busy few weeks, but we look forward to generating some positive momentum towards Queensland becoming the best place in Australia to do business. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W16D0_vfVy4&feature=youtu.be

07.01.2022 HOW COOL ARE THESE KICKS! Far North Queensland artists Naurita Briscoe, Briana Enoch and Elverina Johnson were commissioned to paint these shoes for the S...uper Netball Indigenous Round. The collaboration was made possible with the help of the Minjil arts and cultural group based in Cairns. Three Melbourne Vixens players will wear the custom shoes when they play the Queensland Firebirds at the Cairns Pop Up Arena on Sunday. The designs were inspired by the rivers, rainforest and reef of Far North Queensland. The Indigenous Round is themed "A Women's Ceremony - a gathering of many journeys at the same destination". Indigenous female artists will have their work featured on the match ball and players' dresses and shoes.
