07.01.2022 The best sport in the world.

06.01.2022 Don’t you just love cricket statistics. Some fascinating insights here.

06.01.2022 In a recent interview, Steve Smith said that he credited his backyard development for much of his international success particularly having to reach out and play in front of the pad to avoid inconsistencies in the family lawn. Smith, in his youth, discovered the essence of the TurfTop training mat. Decades ago, Aussie kids grew up playing cricket in their back yards. Come summertime, it was commonplace to set your dad’s mower to its lowest height and carve out a pitch ...from the longer grass. Despite this preparation the bounce was wildly unpredictable, so generations of cricketers grew up having to watch the ball intently, all the way onto the bat. As a bowler you learned to aim for that depression just short of a length, from where the ball would deviate wildly, hopefully earning you a wicket. Due to the shrinking of urban back yards and the steady escalation of school and club sports, these iconic backyard tests have been largely replaced by organised team training sessions. Of course these sessions take place on flat, featureless artificial turf pitches. So recent generations of batters have grown up unaccustomed to late ball movement off the wicket, while bowlers have received no real reward for hitting particular spots on the pitch. The TurfTop cricket training mat aims to bring back the backyard bounce into cricket training. It will help to breed a new generation of cricketers who have learned from the earliest age to watch the ball intently, all the way onto the bat, and are rewarded for bowling accurately to the best line and length. Do you want to bat like Steve Smith? To find out more and to order a TurfTop training mat for yourself, your school or your club, please go to www.cricketingedge.com.au. If this philosophy worked for Steve Smith, it might just work for you!
