20.01.2022 Cr Sally Halliday and I are keen to see hundreds of new jobs created here in the Lower Hunter. This would benefit people living in suburbs such as Gillieston Heights, Maitland, Louth Park, Telarah, South Maitland and East Maitland by creating new employment opportunities, in particular traineeships and apprenticeships for younger workers trying to enter the workforce. On Tuesday night we will be putting a motion to Council to write to the Federal Government supporting a pro...posal that would generate a whole new industry taking off right here in Cessnock and Maitland.
19.01.2022 I gave NorthConnex a test run this morning and it is a fantastic option for those from our region who need to travel to Sydney. I managed to travel from Lochinvar to near the Sydney Cricket Ground without a single set of traffic lights. By linking the F3 (I still call it the F3) to the M2 it has made the trip faster and simpler for regional visitors. It will make a huge difference for those visiting Sydney from the Hunter region.... 19.01.2022 We have a number of war memorials across our city which pay tribute to servicemen and servicewomen who have served our country at various conflicts over the last 116 years. Their beauty and splendour highlight the high level of respect and honour in which the community held for these brave men and women. Lest We Forget
18.01.2022 A world class cancer centre will soon be available to Hunter residents, with construction of the $6 million facility getting underway today. It'll be located in... Maitland, opposite the new hospital, and able to offer radiation therapy, medical oncology and clinic trials from next year. The aim is to provide 14,000 treatments to 800 patients a year once the centre opens in mid 2021. General Manager for Medical Oncology Ian Maytom says it's a one-stop-shop where people can access a multidisciplinary team of specialists. "Previously if you wanted to access private oncology services you mostly had to go to Newcastle and this will allow patients in the Maitland area or the Upper Hunter area to receive a world class service in their own environment," he said.

02.01.2022 Welcome to this week's update on everything Maitland
02.01.2022 This is not Maitland news, but worthy of a mention. I was saddened to hear the passing overnight of Sir Sean Connery. As a Bond fan this is very sad news. Sean was the original actor to play Bond in the film franchise and reprised the role for 6 official EON films, and one more unofficial film. He also acted in the Indiana Jones movies and many other films.... Together with director Terrence Young, Sean interpreted Fleming’s Bond character for the silver screen in Dr No and was the first to deliver that famous line Bond, James Bond, and to order a Vodka Martina, shaken, not stirred. He lived a long full life, passing away in his sleep last night at the age of 90. He will be missed. RIP Sean : EON Productions
