22.01.2022 Sunday 25-10-2020 Beware of him that is slow to anger; for when it is long coming, it is the stronger when it comes, and the longer kept. Abused patience turns to fury. - Francis Quarles I have chosen to start today’s update with this quote from a 16th Century poet to acknowledge the community sentiment I am hearing of those who to date have been patient, and complied with everything asked of them in good faith that such cooperation would result in an easing of restrictions...Continue reading

19.01.2022 Sharing this important message from Ambulance Victoria for those who suffer from asthma or hay fever. There is currently a very high pollen count across Melbourne as well as storms this week that could trigger thunderstorm asthma. It may be worth checking that you have the medication you require on hand and not past it’s use by date. Signs of hay fever may also cause social anxiety for some people as they worry about people pre-judging the symptoms as coronavirus.... It is always best to seek medical advice and for those who are prone to serious hayfever each year, be mindful to look for any differences in your usual hayfever response, prompting you to get tested for coronavirus if you have even the slightest doubts.

18.01.2022 Pleased that I have finally been able to change my page name, now that the Council elections are done and dusted. You will see I have added to my page name the statement "Community Matters Most" - I chose this to reflect that my page is and will continue to be about community engagement and connection. It is more than a page dedicated to leadership at a local level or advocacy. There is much more to say and also to hear from you. I am really excited by plans I have for this page, so watch this space...some really fantastic initiatives launching very soon (now that the page name has changed - yay!!!)

16.01.2022 Wednesday 28th October, 2020 I'm starting my post late and didn't catch today's press conference so will be super brief tonight. It's all smiles today, with some great news across our region. No inspirational quote - just a smiling face and happy feet....Continue reading

16.01.2022 For those that had been asking re the opening of the Knox Athletics track - it is open for individual recreational use (exercise). This afternoon's announcement re easing of restrictions may provide for structured Little Aths programs to recommence soon - This will be announced by Knox Little Aths in due course (once the full details of the opening up are known)..

14.01.2022 THANK YOU The ballots for Tirhatuan Ward were counted this afternoon, and I am delighted to share with you all, that I have been successfully re-elected. The results are not final or official as yet, as today's count only included ballots received by 6pm Friday 23rd October. The VEC will do a subsequent count next week including any ballots that were delayed in the post up until tomorrow's mail delivery (30/10).... In Tirhatuan, the additional ballots to be processed will not impact the outcome of the vote thus far. Today's results were - > SUTCLIFFE, Phil - 1849 Votes* (22.1%) > SPELMAN, Rebekah - 1299 Votes* (15.6%) > SEYMOUR, Nicole - 5203 Votes* (62.3%) Total Votes - 8351 Note: * These are progressive first preferences only. This information is subject to change as there are still further ballot papers to be counted and preference distributions to be completed where required. The final count will be conducted next week some time and the successful candidates for all Wards will be officially sworn in on Friday 13th November. I would like to acknowledge both Phil and Rebekah for putting themselves forward in these elections. It is important that voters have choice in who represents them and also to hold sitting Councillors to account. I wish them well and hope both continue to show an active interest in local government here in Knox. A special thank you to all those who assisted me with my campaign. This was a very strange and difficult election period and traditional campaigning was not possible. I am truly thankful to all those working behind the scenes to help achieve this humbling result.

14.01.2022 Saturday 24-10-2020 With the AFL Grand Final soon to kick off, I wanted to post Today's numbers before the game starts. Today's update is super brief. The overall numbers continue to do well, particularly for our region, now down to 18 cases.... Casey is doing an outstanding job, now down to just 1 active case. Greater Dandenong increased by 1 however this case may be removed in the next couple of days as I suspect this is the case referred to this morning as being a previous positive under investigation. Time will tell. 7 new cases were reported today, six of which relate to the Northern outbreak. This is an encouragingly low number given 17,219 tests were processed including 2802 in the northern outbreak catchment. Much of today's press conference focused on the Northern outbreak and what is being done to get on top of it before it has a chance to spread throughout the community more broadly. Until the tests are processed and the data re the outbreak is fully analysed, there may be an impact on the extent restrictions can be eased from tomorrow. The Premier was more sombre than previous days, saying he can't make a decision until the latest data is fully evaluated and he will be erring on the side of caution. It may therefore be the case that some restrictions are eased from 11:59pm tomorrow and more later in the week or next weekend when there is a better picture re the northern outbreak. No point trying to guess what this will look like tonight. Enjoy your evening, and we can see what we are faced with tomorrow. If you are watching the Grand Final, enjoy the game. Who would have thought an AFL grand final is Queensland would mirror Melbourne's crazy weather.....? Cheers Nicole (Mum from the Burbs :-) )

12.01.2022 Last year, Melburnians were asked to provide feedback into the future of Melbourne’s green wedges and agricultural land. Knox Council conducted local consultation and made a submission to the State Government based on what the Community told us they valued and wanted to see protected. The State Government released information today of the next stage in their efforts to create stronger planning controls to permanently protect Melbourne’s green wedges and agricultural land. Ha...ving considered the first round of inputs, a consultation paper of possible planning control options is now available for community consideration and feedback via public submission. Knox and our neighbouring LGA's to the East and South include important green wedge areas. It is therefore in our interests to ensure our Community participates in the engagement and consultation processes. The Green Wedge areas are important as they contribute to our air and water quality, local food security, have high natural amenity, provide important habitat corridors and play a critical role is helping to address the impacts of our changing climate. This is an "all of community" issue you should be aware of. 06.01.2022 For those that have been asking whether Halloween trick or treating can go ahead. The Government has released the following guidelines this afternoon - 27 October 2020 This Halloween there are some actions you can take to keep your friends, family and community safe, while still enjoying yourself.... If you have any symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) get tested and stay at home. By staying at home this Halloween, you help to keep your friends, family and community safe. Wear a face mask with your costume, but remember that a costume mask that is part of your Halloween costume is not a substitute for a face mask. Consider making your own mask and decorating it. Keep at least 1.5 metres between yourself and people you don’t live with. This means no hugging or kissing when greeting people. Don’t share food or drinks. Trick or Treating While we can’t celebrate in the normal ways we would, there are alternative options Have a Halloween party outside in a public place. You can catch up with a group of up to ten people (including yourself). Babies under 12 months age aren’t included in the ten-person limit. An outdoor public place means an area accessible to everyone, including local parks and beaches. Do a Halloween scavenger hunt by giving children a list of Halloween-themed things to look for as they walk outdoors from house to house admiring Halloween decorations at a distance. Just like eye-spy! The limit of ten people (including yourself) applies to scavenger hunts. Carve or decorate pumpkins with members of your household. Decorate your house. Have a virtual costume party or party with friends and family on video chat. Have a Halloween movie night with your household. Create an around the house trick or treat or scavenger hunt for your household Handing out lollies or candy - Coronavirus is still with us and celebrating at home is the safest way to mark Halloween this year. If you do trick or treat, you need to stay safe. It is safer not to hand out lollies or candy to trick-or-treaters this Halloween. This is because the virus can spread on surfaces, including food or packaging. Under current restrictions traditional trick or treating where you knock on someone’s door is not permitted. If you can’t resist handing out lollies this year you can do so by having candy available outside of your home. Don’t use communal bowls for lollies or candy. Putting lollies in a shared bowl will mean everyone is touching the same food and surfaces which isn’t safe. Instead, put individually wrapped lollies or candy in bags for non-contact collection. Place bags on your fence, at your front gate or outside your home for collection. Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds before preparing the bags or individually wrapped lollies or candy. 06.01.2022 During the recent Council elections, public transport was a common theme raised. Local residents told me they wanted faster, more timely, and more accessible public transport options that connect our area to the Melbourne CBD. For many the ultimate solution is rail to Rowville (perhaps even further to Lysterfield/ Narre Warren North). A rail solution will take years to deliver, and Residents of the Southern part of Knox (Rowville, Scoresby, Knoxfield, Lysterfield) are callin...g for a more immediate solution. One of the suggestions put forward by Community members is for an express bus service from Rowville to the City. Looking at this video re the proposed Park and Ride solution in Bulleen, is this something that would work in Knox? Happy to hear your thoughts on this and transport issues more broadly...

06.01.2022 Thursday 29-10-2020 "I have lived large parts of my life in wonderful circumstances that I utterly failed to appreciate. Reasons to be happy were everywhere, but somehow I didn't connect with them. It was as though I was eating but couldn't taste the food. Finally, I've learned to celebrate the good while it's happening. I feel gratitude and praise today for what are sometimes such simple pleasures. I have learned that happiness is not determined by circumstances. Happiness i...Continue reading

04.01.2022 FOR THE FALLEN LAURENCE BINYON (1869-1943) With proud thanksgiving, a mother for her children, Our country mourns for her dead across the sea.... Flesh of her flesh they were, spirit of her spirit, Fallen in the cause of the free. Solemn the drums thrill; Death august and royal Sings sorrow up into immortal spheres, There is music in the midst of desolation And a glory that shines upon our tears. They went with songs to the battle, they were young, Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow. They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted; They fell with their faces to the foe. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. They mingle not with their laughing comrades again; They sit no more at familiar tables of home; They have no lot in our labour of the day-time; They sleep beyond our country’s foam. But where our desires are and our hopes profound, Felt as a well-spring that is hidden from sight, To the innermost heart of their own land they are known As the stars are known to the Night; As the stars that shall be bright when we are dust, Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain; As the stars that are starry in the time of our darkness, To the end, to the end, they remain. LEST WE FORGET

02.01.2022 There are so many wonderful examples of kindness across Knox. With Huey’s being my local bakery, with the yummiest pies and vanilla slices, I am very proud of them for having the pay it forward initiative. 02.01.2022 In settings with low ventilation, COVID-19 is likely to remain in the air and accumulate in higher concentrations.
