23.01.2022 Tomorrow (Monday) the wonderful Kate will be assisting with kite-making at the Opshop from 12-2. All welcome, but see note below about Covid restrictions on numbers at a time.

23.01.2022 Page 18-20 has an article about Rev Jude Benton for those who missed a copy.

21.01.2022 The flowers appear on the earth; The time of singing has come Song of Solomon 2:12 Maybe we don't feel like singing yet, but praise the LORD that we can rely on His lovingkindness and tender mercies.... Reminder to tune into 3MGB 101.7 Mallacoota and 96.9 Genoa tomorrow at 9am for Radio Church with Rev Jude Benton. See more

21.01.2022 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aqm-S9J1s_k Sometimes choosing music for Sunday is difficult - especially when I've got a song already stuck in my head. Listen up 9am Sunday morning to see if I've found a version of this without the crowd's input.

20.01.2022 Matthew 14: 22-23 (New King James version) 22 Immediately Jesus made His disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, while He sent the multitudes away. 23 And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there. 24 But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, tossed by the waves, for the wind was contrary. 25 Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on th...e sea. 26 And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a ghost! And they cried out for fear. 27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid. 28 And Peter answered Him and said, Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water. 29 So He said, Come. And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. 30 But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, Lord, save me! 31 And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, O you of little faith, why did you doubt? 32 And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. 33 Then those who were in the boat came and worshiped Him, saying, Truly You are the Son of God. 1. How long do you think Jesus prayed for? 2. Have you ever been awake for the fourth watch of the night? (36am)? See https://www.passiontoknowmore.com//2016-1-19-what-hour-is- 3. Spend some time thinking about being in a small fishing boat. Something like this one - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sea_of_Galilee_Boat that was found in 1986 on the shores of the Sea of Galilee. It has been known for the waves to reach 2m in height when the wind picks up. The Sea of Galilee is below sea level and surrounded by very high hills. 4. How is Peter both ‘faithful and flawed’ as Rev Arnie said in Radio Church? 5. How can we show great faith in our living for Jesus? 6. In verse 27, the NKJV has Jesus say 'It is I'. A literal translation of the Greek is 'I am'. Does this alter how we hear Jesus' words?

20.01.2022 The main church service in the parish at the moment is still 9am Radio Church on 101.7fm Mallacoota 96.9 Genoa. Due to restriction changes this week there will be people listening outside St Peter’s at 9am and then staying to discuss afterwards. Please bring your own refreshments & a camping chair if you can. There will also be an outside gathering at St John’s Cann River at 12 noon.... Both gatherings have a maximum of 10 people plus Rev Jude, and face-coverings are required unless you are under 12 or have an exemption. If you are visiting either Cann River or Mallacoota we’d love to see you, but know that people are still very sensitive about both the fire and the fear of Covid. The attached letter from MADRA is simply to give visitors a guide to understanding a traumatised community.

19.01.2022 We're OPEN! St Peter's Op Shop will be opening on Monday 21st September at 10am after 6 weeks of renovation and 20 fantastic volunteer helpers. But don't come all at once: only 10 in the shop, face coverings required, and you know what to do with the sanitizer at the front door . . . We are looking forward to smiling at you from behind our masks. Thanks to Lakes Entrance and Maffra Anglican Op Shops for their super stock contributions. Mon - Fri 10am - 3pm Sat 10am - 12pm Sun closed.

19.01.2022 There’s a shrub outside my window from which the honeyeaters, blackbirds and whipbirds sing. I’ve glanced out every morning since I moved here eight weeks ago. This morning, the red wattlebird was determined to be the loudest at announcing the sunrise. I looked around and through the foliage, deeply contemplating where the birds must go at night (and why the loud frogs don’t go there, too!), if the birds that visit my garden are the same ones . . . .and so on. It was then... I saw the image of a face formed by the branches and leaves. Our SEEK Bible study group met for the 5th week and the first time online yesterday. It is so exciting to purposefully look into the Bible, to stare at it, wonder at its verses. Sometimes our Bible is another book on the shelf, just like this shrub outside my window is another plant in the garden. But life is animated by Scripture, and as we seek earnestly, we start to see the person of Jesus, always there. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, . . . All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things and in Him all things hold together Colossians 1:16-17 See more

16.01.2022 A reminder to tune into 3MGB for Radio Church tomorrow at 9am for Rev Arnie and Rev Jennie's third and final week. Thanks for your blessings to us! (Photo: Bastion Beach sand wave patterns)

14.01.2022 Hello Brothers and Sisters! Our small group is enjoying Bible study so much we want to share it. Our group name is SEEK - Spiritual Encouragement and Exhortation for our King - a bit of a mouthful but we want to encourage each other by feasting on the Word of God and having Jesus in our daily conversations, prayers and thinking. One of our Lay Readers, Leanne, has this intro. We'll post a study soon. Blessings to you all.

12.01.2022 This week's reading from Matthew 20 is a parable, a story used to illustrate a spiritual truth. Washing up this windy morning, I watched a koala mama hold on to her baby. I wonder if this joey has any idea of the dangers it is protected from? If Jesus wandered the Australian bush teaching us, I'm sure there'd be a parable that started, 'The Kingdom of Heaven is like a koala joey who has total trust . . . Has anyone written a parable before? I'm going to try whilst waiting for Rev Jude's radio church to start at 9am 3MGB 101.7FM.

11.01.2022 So excited to hear Rev Arnie Wierenga and Rev Jennie Gordon's radio church installment at 9am Sunday on 3MGB. (Sorry for those outside of Mallacoota and Genoa). A sneak peak of the content reveals that Gerard Manley Hopkins' 'God's Grandeur' gets a mention. I remember the first time that I heard this 19th Jesuit priest's passionate poetry. The energised worship and rolling rhythm and rhyme makes me walk with a skip in my step every time I read it. I smile at Stanley Kunitz's recital and the typewriter taps which bookend this video.

11.01.2022 From Psalm 103 17 But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting On those who fear Him, And His righteousness to children’s children, 18 To such as keep His covenant,... And to those who remember His commandments to do them. 19 The LORD has established His throne in heaven, And His kingdom rules over all. See more

11.01.2022 A NEW HYMN IN RESPONSE TO THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC When We Face an Unknown Future BEACH SPRING 8.7.8.7 D ("God Whose Giving Knows No Ending")... When we face an unknown future that we can’t imagine yet, when the closeness we have treasured turns from blessing into threat As we miss our friends and loved ones, as we crave community, may we look, God, in this season, for a whole new way to be. Jesus faced the lonely desert as a time to look within. There he met such trial and conflict; there he knew you were with him. In this time of separation when we miss the life we’ve known, may we hear your voice proclaiming: I am here! You’re not alone. May we cherish those around us as we never have before. May we think much less of profit; may we learn what matters more. May we hear our neighbors’ suffering; may we see our neighbors’ pain. May we learn new ways of offering life and health and hope again. God, when illness comes to threaten, and when so much here goes wrong, may we know this thing for certain that your love is sure and strong. You’re beside us in our suffering, and when times are surely tough, we may face an unknown future, but it’s filled, Lord, with your love. Thank you!

06.01.2022 And Jesus sustains this every day. One minute of a Bastion Point, Mallacoota morning. I pray for your day to be relentlessly good.

06.01.2022 Rev Arnie Wierenga and Rev Jennie Gordon are in the Parish to shepherd us while Rev Jude Benton is having a long overdue rest. They are Pastoral and Strategic Resource Ministers in the Uniting Church Presbytery of Gippsland and will be on 3MGB tomorrow morning at 9am. I've noticed that it is rather difficult to identify people that I know quite well when they have masks on, so thought it appropriate to show you what Arnie and Jenny look like with masks on as well. Welcome to cold and rainy Mallacoota, guys, our hearts are warm and we look forward to your ministry with us. Contact: Parish phone 0411 016 470

05.01.2022 It was nice to be back at St John’s Cann River today. Covid restrictions mean meeting outside, but what lovely grounds to meet outside in, with birds flying through the trees and the scent of the blossoms.

05.01.2022 This week we're partnering with MADRA to present the MAD (Mallacoota and Districts) Activity week. The aim is to get people out and about, engaging in a Covid safe way with others and the recovering environment. One activity is "Let HOPE fly" with people decorating kites with hopeful messages. Loving this families take on it, using kites they already had, but still giving a message of hope. Check out MAD Recovery on Facebook to find out more details and to vote for your favourite pic's.

04.01.2022 Something fun to get people engaging with each other, and with nature. Whatever your age, we hope you can give at least one activity a go.

03.01.2022 This week's been a great partnership between the Parish, MADRA, and the community. Fri and Sat we are painting some panels representing recovery - including this amazing one drawn by Kate. Please follow the post to the MAD Recovery Page to find out how to be involved.

03.01.2022 A music concert that is online next Saturday. Locals can listen for free by entering liminality in the voucher box. Others are encouraged to pay a $20 donation which goes towards supporting the diocese bushfire relief fund.
