04.01.2022 It is with heavy hearts that today we FAREWELL ŠIME ŠARIN, our friend, countryman, esteemed and respected member of our club and community. Šime has been a very supportive and active club member from its early beginnings. He played in the first Croatian Soccer team which was called ‘Lincoln City’ then changed to ‘Zadar’. His position goalkeeper, when he stopped playing he continued to follow and support the team as a very enthusiastic and colourful spectator so much so that ...he was once given a ‘red card’. He has been a Club President and was one of the earliest Foundation members of our Croatian Club. He has been a very generous supporter of our soccer team; many of our Guernseys and travel expenses were met by him. Not once did he say no to our appeals for sponsorship and other support. Many times he sponsored Croatian bands and singers to come to Port Lincoln for our dances and other functions. He was a very good Bocce player and enjoyed a game whenever he could. Many of our Bocce, Darts and Eight Ball teams have been the recipients of Šime’s sponsorship. He was always ready to donate fish for our Tunarama stalls and other functions and was happy to take his turn at manning the B.B.Q. when necessary. When we built these Clubrooms he placed his workshop and equipment [e.g. cherry picker, crane and drivers] at our disposal. A lot of steel cutting and welding was done at Šarin’s shipyard. Much of our materials were supplied by his company at reduced prices. Šime has always been very involved and supportive of all club activities. An example of his generosity is when at an A.G.M. it was suggested that we put money aside to save for a dishwasher for the kitchen. Šime said: Go out and buy one and send me the bill. The ladies have washed enough dishes. Thank You Šime we will miss you! Rest in peace dear friend. You will never be forgotten. Our deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to Elida and the Šarin family. Iskrena suut obitelji Šarin. Poivao u miru Božjem!
