18.01.2022 On Anzac Day 1950, 25 Croatians gathered in Hyde Park and established the first Croatian Club in Australia. The Dom became a central home for the emergence of ...the Croatian identity in Australia. The first official home for Croats in Adelaide was the former Salvation Army Citadel in Chief St, Bowden but by the 70s the club premises were too small and land was purchased in Brompton where the new clubrooms were built to be opened by the Governor of South Australia Mr Keith Seaman on the 16th May 1980. Throughout the Doms history there has been many organisations including the creation of a successful soccer club in 52, the establishment of its Croatian school in 66, and the womens auxiliary Katarina Zrinski and Folklor group Lenek in the 70s. Along with the maintenance of Croatian language, folklore, arts, cultural practises and politics for Croatians in Adelaide, the Dom and members over the years raised awareness and money for the people of Croatia prior to, during and after the war for independence. Our community gave for ophans, for individuals in need, for the church and the rebuilding of Croatia. Due to COVID-19 our plans to celebrate with our community for our 70th anniversary have been postponed. We will celebrate this milestone when we are able in the way that Croatians do best, through song and dance. For now, please tune into our Croatian Radio program at 12pm tomorrow on 5EBI FM for a snapshot of singers that have performed at the Dom. Today as we honour the ANZACs that have lost their lives defending their homelands, let us also remember those that fought for Croatia. On behalf of myself and the Club committee, we would like to thank all our members, volunteers and friends for their hard work and support over the last 70 years. 15.01.2022 Due to the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions and our concern for the safety of our community, the much anticipated Croatian Club 70th Anniversary Gala celebrations ...have been rescheduled to 12 June 2021, and dont worry our friends Prva Liga Sydney will be there! With the continuing pandemic, we believe the safest option is to hold the event next year and trust that it will be possible to host large events at this time. All tickets purchased for this years Gala will be honoured for the rescheduled event, however if you have queries about your tickets or require a refund please contact - [email protected] If you do request a refund, we cannot guarantee that ticket prices will remain the same and seating will be available for next years event. We hope you all continue to remain safe and we look forward to celebrating this significant milestone even bigger and better with you soon.
