14.01.2022 The Cronulla Sharks must re-sign coach John Morris before the 2021 season starts, even if it’s just a one-year deal and here’s why. _ In the past NRL teams have... struggled to perform with their coaches future constantly in the headlines. It’s an absolute distraction for the squad and something the Cronulla Sharks really cannot afford, especially after just sneaking into the finals in 2020. _ Further, let’s be brutally honest here he has inherited an absolute shit fight of a roster! For starters, his best player and one of the side’s key leaders Josh Morris was released against his will, which ultimately proved a massive blunder by management. _ Fast forward and his youngest and most exciting player Bronson Xerri is provisionally banned by ASADA in the very same season. Both massive losses and further distractions for the squad. _ Two of his most senior and highest paid players Andrew Fifita and Matt Molyan both struggled through injury in 2020 and are taking up a huge amount of his salary cap space. It was not his decision to sign either of these players to their current deals. _ He also inherited an ageing roster and has been forced to debut a ton of players. Every single player that has debuted for the Sharks under him has been absolutely fantastic! Braydon Trindall, Royce Hunt, Toby Rudolf, Siosifa Talakai and Teig Wilton all had great seasons. _ Personally, I’m excited to see Morris continue his coaching career and the development of his young players. It’s also important to note in his first two seasons as head coach, he has made the finals on both occasions. _ In my opinion, it would be a huge mistake by the Sharks to let this drag out in the media, or to not offer Morris a contract extension. _ What do you think, should the Sharks re-sign Morris?
