25.01.2022 ACU Cronulla Water Polo would like to pay recognition to our Aboriginal & Torres Straight Islander players and families during NAIDOC Week. NAIDOC Week celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Indigenous Australians. Emily Tonkies from L16B is proud of her heritage and looks up to other Indigenous members of her community, in particular her Nan who is a well-respected elder in the Sydney area, assisting and educating disadvantaged people. Emily has big goals for ...her own future. She plans on attending University to do a Bachelor of Business degree which will give her the tools to fulfil her dream of starting up an Aboriginal designed, sports apparel company. We hope to see some water polo swimwear designed by Emily in the future! #NAIDOC2020 #alwayswasalwayswillbe #finsup #indigenousathlete #thisisaustralia #cronulla #sutherlandshire
25.01.2022 TEAM OF THE WEEK. This week goes to our 16a boys. The boys, even though they could not get the win against a powerful Sydney Uni side have been a great example to the club this season. All members of the team have completed their competition official accreditation through @waterpoloaus. Important to note that this is a requirement for all players at the club. Keep up the good work in and out of the water fellas #finsup

18.01.2022 Craig Miller (Millsy) gave us a great wrap up Out of all the wonderful memories that I have from the Sydney Olympics - the Closing Ceremony stands out to this day. The men’s water polo was scheduled for the second week and we had only finished our final game against the Croatians hours prior to the Closing Ceremony.... We entered the stadium together as that 13 man unit we had been in for the years leading into the Games and were greeted with the polar opposite of what we had expected! Darkness, silence and volunteers insisting that we keep the noise down! As we emerged from the grandstands and onto the playing surface somewhat bemused 115,000 Australians broke into a very loud and proud Waltzing Matilda which to this day whenever I think about it leaves me with goose bumps! It was then that we allowed ourselves a moment to reflect upon the journey we had all started many years prior, the hours in the pool, the planning, the joy and the heartbreak. Until that time the focus had always been on the process and on the Games. At that moment we slipped out of being focused, all consumed and allowed ourselves a moment to relax, to think of the past, the future, the mateship and the comradery. I will never forget the crowd singing as one, surrounded by my best mates and the joy of reflecting that I had achieved my boyhood dream of representing our great country in our great sport at the Olympics. Pictured are the Nulla boys at the Closing Ceremony. L-R Milsy, Obie and Warts (Boyby would’ve been off looking for trouble) Fins Up to our former Sharkie blokes - it’s been great!!

17.01.2022 TEAM OF THE WEEK. Our under 12 girls have been doing a great job this season notching their first win against Balmain a week ago. Exciting times lay ahead ladies. Keep up the good work #finsup
16.01.2022 TEAM OF THE WEEK. L5 - Our last for 2020. Our L5 team, nicknamed the Mums & Bubs, has not one, but FIVE sets of mum/daughter combos! Complementing the team are four Aunties who are regular L4/L5 players and are helping to mentor the rest of the team. Most of the mums have never played before, proving you CAN teach an old dog new tricks - as the team is absolutely killing it, finishing the year in a close second place, with their eyes on the gold medal. The team is ha...ppy to report that there’s only been one mum/daughter argument, where @halle.johhnsonn didn’t listen to her mother in goals, resulting in a goal being scored against them, and so she was promptly sent to the naughty corner. Apart from the occasional calls of get out of the way Mum!, the girls have been pleasantly surprised at how the Mums have progressed - with @tayteheadley commenting As the weeks went by, Mum learned to pass the ball further than a centimetre and caught the ball once or twice. Unfortunately we haven’t seen her put one in the back of the net yet, but I am looking forward to the rest of the season, and no doubt we will set her up for another attempt at a goal. We all know that it’s not the number of goals that count, but it’s the passion and team spirit, and this team has buckets of it. Good luck for the remainder of the season girls, we hope to see a medal! #finsup
16.01.2022 This week we have caught up with some of our Cronulla lads who were part of the Aussie Sharks Olympic Sydney 2000 team. Mark Oberman, Grant Waterman, Craig Miller, Sean Boyd were all members of our glory days of Cronulla’s dominance of National League Premierships in the 90’s. Australia missed qualifying for Atlanta 1992 leaving a long road ahead for these boys to Sydney.... See following posts with a brief wrap up from the boys. Due to border closures in QLD - we have been unable to make contact with Sean. It’s been a fantastic few weeks reminiscing the on the greatest games of all time.
16.01.2022 Good luck to our NL boys @connorbarclay_ and @tristglanznig who are training with the @aussiesharkswp in camp. #finsup fellas Milos Lekovic
15.01.2022 HAPPY NEW YEAR from all of us at Cronulla Water Polo. To a brighter 2021. Thank-you to everyone who has been part of and supported the club over the past year. See you all in the water soon #finsup
15.01.2022 A picturesque #finsup from our L16s + friends on a bush walk and swim at #karloopools A great day out in our beautiful #royalnationalpark
13.01.2022 Mark Oberman (aka Bear/Obie), was our big centre stepping into Ake’s shoes after his retirement. Mark was part of the Barcelona Olympic team in ‘92. His fondest memories were sharing these games alongside his Cronulla team-mates (sadly not including his brother Paul, due to a shoulder dislocation only months prior to the Olympics). Mark himself suffered a broken hand only 6 weeks prior on an overseas training camp & was relieved to be selected. Mark enjoyed having his who...le family & friends meet him after what he knew would be his final game in the National team. He said hearing the National anthem is so special for any athlete - but to be joined in by all the spectators was an incredible experience.
13.01.2022 The Sharks are back at the tank this weekend this Saturday. Given the large, public outdoor space it's a great opportunity for fans to get your fix of sunshine, fresh air and water polo. Keep in mind, given it is a public space, the Club is not responsible for spectators, though we strongly encourage any member of the public to adhere by social distancing. We are also delighted to announce that the games will be streamed on @cluch.waterpolo with details to follow. #finsup
13.01.2022 Day for it. With the bay water quality a little questionable this morning our L16a girls utilised the perks of a low tide and did plenty this morning at training #finsup #crashball
13.01.2022 TEAM OF THE WEEK. A sensational effort by our M14A boys during the Sydney Metro Finals series. They earned their place in the Semi final after only one loss this season. After winning a nail biting penalty shoot out against SNB, the boys proceeded to the final against an undefeated Sydney Uni Blue. It was a tough battle!Exhilarating to watch, the boys took away the Silver medal on the day. Well done and congratulations to coach Al and the team. #finsup

12.01.2022 Win the morning. Great effort from some of the under 12s ,14s and a few dinosaurs this morning bright and early at Gunnamatta Bay for ins and out and marathons. 09.01.2022 Grant Waterman (Wartz) representing at his first Olympics said playing alongside a team that had been together so long was very special. (Most of this team started together back in ‘93 winning a bronze medal at the World Cup in Athens) He loved rooming with mate Obie in the village (anyone who has toured knows the importance of a great roomie)... Seeing our Nulla girl Hank and the girls getting Gold was great although the boys watched from the village as they had a game the next day. Grant said it’s impossible to talk about everything but the experience was enough to keep a smile on his face 20yrs on.
