A country where tourism barely exists, you can now explore this land with us!

17.01.2022 MYTHS & MOUNTAINS - NORTH ISLAND NEW ZEALAND: Visit Te Kripitanga o Tama-nui-te-Ra the place where the stars and the sun emerge from the waters of the great Lake of Kiwa, the Pacific Ocean. It is a celestial disc that looms large over the cultural landscape of the Waim?rama people. People gather here to remember the past and make plans for the future. Stars in the firmament remind us of loved ones lost; others track the trail of discovery that bought the first ancestors to ...this land. The guardians tell of the of the lore of the land; of battles won and blood spilt. Entry in to this sacred and spiritual place is not guaranteed to all persons, however, we have sought exclusive permission. There are customs and protocols that you will be talked through. The guides for this tour are all members of the local Waimrama Tribe, and they will clear our way. This is their sacred knowledge and we are privileged that they are willing to share it with us. The site visit ends with a moving greeting to the new day. As is the custom of the tribe we will conclude the tour by sharing food together. Return to a family home and enjoy a cup of medicinal kawakawa tea, and time with the family and have a light breakfast. https://www.crooked-compass.com/t/myths-mountains-nz-north/

10.01.2022 DISCOVER THE PILBARA & CORAL COAST - WESTERN AUSTRALIA: Visit Hearson Cove Beach, which is a small sandy cove with steep rugged hills to the south and west and an outlook across Nichol Bay. At high tide, it’s an ideal swimming spot, and at low tide, you can walk for hundreds of metres on the exposed tidal flats, walk to the turtle islands and try to spot the turtles in the coral cay. Hearson Cove is the historic site of the landing of the Northwest Exploring Expedition led by... F.T. Gregory in 1861. This expedition laid the basis for the rapid development of pastoral and pearling industries across the Pilbara region in the 1860s. You will see incredible sites known as shell middens in the area, which are distinct concentrations of shell. They contain evidence of past Aboriginal hunting and gathering, as well as food processing activities. https://www.crooked-compass.com//discover-the-pilbara-cor/

10.01.2022 Tom Price is the highest town in Western Australia at 747m above sea level. Named after Thomas Moore Price, the vice-president of the giant United States steel company Kaiser Steel, Price was one of the main supporters of the Pilbara region in the early 1960s. The most prominent feature of Tom Price is the peak known as Mt Nameless (1,128 metres) or Jurndamurneh to the local Aboriginal people, meaning ‘wallabies live near here’. https://www.crooked-compass.com//discover-the-pilbara-cor/

02.01.2022 Last week we ran our inaugural Crooked Compass Australia small group tour on the Eyre Peninsula. Our Wildlife, Seafood and Culture tour showcased some of South Australia's most remote and rugged coastline, filled us with the freshest seafood and educated us with incredible cultural experiences. Wild emus dashed in front of our car (regularly) as well as trudged through sand dunes and loped along beaches, koalas were at eye level and in abundance! Our group counted around 37 o...f them as we explored on foot. Scenic flights, shark cage diving and sea lion swimming were all on offer. Sunrise champagne breakfasts, remote picnic lunches and great company! This region is one of the most challenging parts of Australia to truly explore beyond Port Lincoln due to its remoteness and lack of sealed roads (many sand roads) made simple by our expert team. https://www.crooked-compass.com/tour/eyre-peninsula/ See more
