21.01.2022 Be kind to yourself. Give yourself time to breathe and permission to just be. In this age of stress, too much busy-ness and pressure it's okay to remember that you're fine, the cracks are normal and the imperfections part of what makes you your perfect self. This is a nice reminder of how to be kind to yourself, cope better and be the wonderful, imperfect, self you are.... #mentalhealth #kindness #mentalhealthtips #CSCE https://hubs.li/H0wz6S_0

20.01.2022 Covid-19 is 2020's gift that just keeps giving. We've had lockdowns and quarantine and home schooling and ... the list just goes on. The focus has been gloom and sadness, so it's nice to have some good news re-emerge from the storm. Clown Doctors relies on good will and love to provide sick kids with much needed joy in their lives. They've managed to keep operating through virtual clowning, but there's nothing like a real clown at your bedside to provide happiness. Having no... active cases for some time in Tasmania, hospitals in the state are now welcoming back Clown Doctors to the wards. It's a bit of much needed relief and a sign that if we all do the right thing, the rewards are there to be reaped. One caveat though. No bubbles allowed. #clowndoctors #mentalhealth #happiness #goodnews https://hubs.li/H0w7LrZ0

18.01.2022 If you find yourself drowning under an unsustainable workload, with demands on your time and expertise coming from all angles, perhaps it's time to slow down, take stock and look at how you can simply say no now and then. Although it can be difficult to do, learning how to say no in the right way is a skill that can help you redress the balance. Knowing how to do this effectively can help you find time for a bit of much needed life rather than spending endless days buried in... meeting endless work requests. Here, Bruce Tulgan takes a dive into the art of saying no - how to assess and prioritise requests and how to address the subtle art of refusal. He offers some practical tips on understanding the requests to say no to, in the right way, and that's something we all need to be reminded of now and then. https://hubs.li/H0vLtZ30 #business #insights #worklifebalance #CSCE

17.01.2022 Working from home (WFH)? Recent research by CQUniversity Associate Professor, Linda Colley and Senior Lecturer HR Management at UNSW, Sue Williamson, Senior Lecture, revealed some interesting facts about how working from home attitudes have changed in 2020. As recently as 2018, "extensive managerial resistance" was present amongst Australian public service managers. Curious to find out if the necessity to work from home has changed these attitudes, they surveyed 6,000 public... servants (including 1,400 managers), with some revolutionary results. The facts reveal that working from home, even for part of the working week, may now become the accepted way of doing things. https://hubs.li/H0x5nQb0

17.01.2022 Language is a curious thing, which evolves and twists through the quagmire of corporate jargon through to everyday colloquialism. But no one in recent memory made language an art as the inimitable Moira Rose, played by Catherine O'Hara in the love-it-or-not television series, Schitt's Creek. Often befuddling the locals, Moira Rose's use of language was a curious exploration of ancient sayings and highbrow asides. In some ways, it can be looked at in the same sort of light we... view corporate jargon - used to set a tone that often merely serves to maintain a status or keep others outside the fold at arms' length. Sadly (for some), we farewelled the Roses at the end of Season five earlier in 2020, so join us in this lighthearted look at the evolution of Moira's language through the eyes of journalist Amanda Wicks as she explores all its whimsy and creativity brought to life through Catherine O'Hara's matriarch character, Moira Rose. #language #schittscreek #communication #creativity https://hubs.li/H0wG6TC0

14.01.2022 Australia is blessed with a pool of exceptional and talented artists and performers, but 2020 has all but decimated the industry. Creative industries have helped shape Australia's narrative, culture and identity and have taken this to the world. A new Parliamentary inquiry being conducted by The House of Representatives Standing Committee on Communications and the Arts, will focus on Australia's creative industries, hearing evidence on the benefits of the arts to Australia a...nd the significant impacts that COVID-19 have had. Those in the creative industries are being invited to participate by completing a survey, which will contribute valuable evidence to the inquiry and may help shape positive outcomes for artists, performers and arts institutions. https://hubs.li/H0wdB_-0

13.01.2022 It’s financial results time and you’re helping to pull together the key messages / narrative for the CEO and the leadership team to disseminate to the rest of the organisation through a town hall, team briefing or webinar. There’s often a bunch of graphs, pie charts, and red, amber and green dots which are compared against the business objectives. The dissemination happens... but is there much change? Do you see people more invigorated and motivated to do better? The answer ...is probably no. In this HBR article it suggests the narrative and the language leaders use can make a significant difference when talking about performance. It suggests that overemphasizing financial targets erodes morale and undermines long-term strategy. Leaders need to spend half their air time on sharing the impact of the work and half on internal metrics and deliverables. A team’s performance (and their emotional well-being) can be improved by making sure the metrics, and language communicate one simple message: Your work matters. Have a read and think about how you can encourage your leaders to change their narrative and improve employee engagement. https://hubs.li/H0HlFVW0 #communication #strategy #management #bestadvice #CSCE

12.01.2022 You know that warm feeling you get when you attempt to great someone in their own language and you see their eyes light up in gratitude. And that connection/bridge which opens your eyes to another culture and broadens your outlook and understanding of the world. Well, here’s wonderful opportunity to do just that. The 50 Words project is making words from local Indigenous languages available for every Australian to hear and learn. This great piece of work by Melbourne Universi...ty offers us all the opportunity to expand our linguistic stills and increase our knowledge of the diverse and expansive Indigenous culture that is the foundation and roots of Australia. Often in large corporations comms professionals have to navigate diverse cultures, religions and backgrounds and adapt their engagement strategy and tactics accordingly. It’s complex but even a simple translation on an organisation poster, or approach to seeking feedback can make an enormous difference to employee engagement. Equally, if you are working in corporate sustainability, there is a strong likelihood that your organisation would be seeking to engage with initiatives that support the Indigenous peoples of our land. Learning 50 words in one of the hundreds of Indigenous languages would surely help you light several eyes and improve your connections. https://hubs.li/H0zRnLP0 #communication #personaldevelopment #strategy #sustainability #CSCE

It’s about the appropriateness and relevance of psychometric testing with companies using it more and more to whittle down candidates. 04.01.2022 We often talk about building trust and becoming a trusted advisor which is something that communication professionals strive to become and is often one of the reasons they undertake our Strategic Advisor Masterclass. But what about if the trust that has been built is broken? Re-establishing trust isn’t always straightforward and can be hard to rebuild. In this HBR article it talks about the three elements of trust and through 360 assessments of 87,000 leaders they identified... which of these were considered to be the most important, having the most impact if developed/destroyed. It turns out that having positive relationships with others and groups has far great impact on trust than good judgement/expertise or even consistency i.e. walking the talk. We would be interested to know if you have ever been in an organisation where employees have lost their trust in their leader. Have you ever had to try and help that leader rebuild that trust or even have a new leader come into an organisation that doesn’t trust leadership? If so, we would love to hear about your experience and how you went about re-establishing that trust between the leader/leadership team and the rest of the organisation. Please do share your experience so we can all learn from each other. https://hubs.li/H0zRSQg0 #management #managmentconsulting #personaldevelopment #strategy #CSCE
