21.01.2022 Kevin Hansen, Numurkah stalwart, has called it a day. The much admired and loved Numurkah identity has called an end to his Pennant competitive days. He is se...ttling back with wife Joan, but invariably will drop in during his travels for a game when and where he can. For many years Kevin has been the steady quiet achiever that every club would cherish...but the time has come. On reflection Kevin mentioned that perhaps his greatest highlight was winning the state team Lefel Shield. Sadly however he never played in a GC Pennant premiership team. I guess we are all inspired by those we admire and in some ways try to emulate....Kevin was one of those and a real warrior. He will be missed. 13.01.2022 Some of singer-songwriter Rebecca Barnards finest work has been created well away from a recording studio. Nature is where I process things and plan and just ...be, surrounded by this beautiful healing, environment. I love waking up in the morning and seeing the sunshine and hearing birds sing and going on long walks with my doggies, Rebecca says. That is my favourite thing to do. It gets into my cells and helps me produce something good musically. My last album was totally inspired by nature, its even got bird calls and frogs and fish splashing-like sounds. #VicSeniorsFestival #InTheGroove #RebeccaBarnard #RebeccaEmpire #Music

10.01.2022 We were happy to welcome back a group of seven students and a teacher from MAGS yesterday. Welcome to visitors Jan, Dave and Darren. Three players won all three of their games. Maree Maher was in first place with a nett hoop score of +8, James Gunn was second with +7 and Ian Grant was in third spot with +6. 08.01.2022 More detail as Corona restrictions ease As Victoria approaches COVID-normal, restrictions on playing croquet and meeting socially have eased. Croquet Victoria's Return to Croquet guidelines have now been updated accordingly. Changes affecting clubs and individual players include:... - masks are no longer required out of doors (keep it in your pocket to put on indoors or in a crowd) - up to 50 people can participate in sport as a group at a given venue - more than one group if the groups can stay a reasonable distance apart and everyone can socially distance. - clubrooms are open. Up to 20 people may gather in a clubhouse, if there is enough space: at least 4m2 must be available per person Requirements for social distancing and hygiene have not changed. Clubs are still expected to have updated COVID-safe plans. The refreshed template for these has been sent to clubs as a Word document and can be downloaded from the Croquet Vic website as a PDF. 08.01.2022 Just one week after winning the Open Championship, Paddy Chapman has won his 2nd CA Presidents Cup in Englands top AC invitation event! Stephen Mulliners rep...ort on the Presidents from the CA website: The 2020 Presidents was played at Hurlingham in sunny weather on beautiful courts that positively demanded peeling at every opportunity. A new record of 11 sextuples was set (Chapman four (in his first five games), Fulford four, Mulliner two and Riva one). In addition to the sextuples, there were one quintuple, four quadruples, two QPOs, one OQP, 12 triples and seven TPOs. The 18 games without "letters" were mainly the product of failed sextuples. The favoured sextuple leave was a tight cross-peg with the inplayers balls on the west boundary. Fresh from his Opens triumph at Cheltenham, Paddy Chapman set the pace with a dominant and unbeaten display in the first seven rounds and opened up a two game advantage over Robert Fulford and Stephen Mulliner. James Death raised the hopes of the trailing pack in Round 8 by inflicting Chapmans first loss by +4 and this was followed by Fulfords flawless fifth turn sextuple against him in Round 9. So, at Saturday lunchtime, Chapman (on 7/9), Fulford and Mulliner (both on 6/8 with their own Round 8 game pegged down) were on theoretically equal terms. Round 10 saw all three win again but Round 11 featured a close and crucial win for Chapman against Mulliner. Round 12 had drama. It showed that Death has no favourites when he beat Fulford +6tpo and Christian Carter came very close to beating Chapman in a two-ball ending. However, very close means not quite and that made a lot of difference to the overnight position of Chapman on 10/12 and Fulford and Mulliner on 8/11. Fulford won the pegged-down game against Mulliner at the start of play on Sunday to reach 9/12 but had to rely on Chapman losing to Riva or Giraud to keep his hopes alive. The Chapman/Riva game in Round 13 was very close but Chapman took it +7 and then completed a rock-solid quadruple peel to beat Giraud in Round 14 and clinch the title for the second time. Congratulations, again, Paddy Chapman! Photo: Photo/George Novak, Bay of Plenty Times, 2014

07.01.2022 ACA Press Release https://croquet-australia.com.au//2020/09/PRESS-RELEASE.pdf

07.01.2022 Corona restrictions relaxed in Victoria The Victorian Premier’s announcement today (Sunday 22 November 2020) includes some very welcome changes in the restrictions affecting sport. These will be included in revised Return to Croquet guidelines as soon as we see the updated Directions documents from the Chief Health Officer. In the meantime, here is a summary of the main points.... But first - many thanks to everyone for their patience over the past nine months! It hasn’t been an easy time. It’s been wonderful to have so many staunch members ensuring that their croquet club has not become a hotspot for infection. The good news, from midnight tonight: No masks outdoors, if you are social distancing (keep a mask in your pocket). Group sizes of 50 for outdoor sport, subject to a ratio of 4 square metres per person. Croquet courts easily meet the density ratio, so we are governed by the 50 player maximum. Clubrooms are open. Masks must be worn. Shared catering arrangements not yet clear. Gatherings of groups of 50 outdoors. We are not clear yet about the number indoors. Density quotient seems now to be 4 square metres per person, but the maximum for a meeting in a community venue is not spelt out yet. Hygiene and sign-in arrangements should be maintained, to avoid cross-infection and support contact tracing if need be. If your club has already completed a COVID-safe plan, we suggest you update it once you have the refreshed Return to Croquet guidelines. Send your updated plan and the refreshed Croquet Victoria guidelines to your LGA for information. More information: contact the Croquet Victoria Secretary on [email protected]

02.01.2022 WIMMERA CROQUET ASSOCIATION 90TH YEAR The first meeting was held at Dimboola on 30/4/1930 and play commenced in October the same year with 7 clubs, Horsham, Natimuk, Warracknabeal, Nhill, Dimboola, Murtoa and Minyip. By 1938 the number increased to 14 clubs before going into recess during WW2. The Wimmera Croquet Association re-convened in 1946, unfortunately the member clubs have slowly decreased with only 4 clubs remaining today and approx. 100 members. We now play two dif...ferent styles of croquet, Association and Golf Croquet. Originally Association Croquet was played by all clubs, then in 1996 Golf Croquet was introduced. Wimmera V Ballarat Challenge match started in 2006 with both Golf and Association Croquet playing each year. Pennant is played with teams from each club, also Singles and Doubles Championships. Regional Golf Singles Championships play at Cairnlea in Melbourne and Regional Association Country Championships play at different Regional Association each year. We also play other social functions within our Association. Wimmera Croquet Association is affiliated with the Victorian Croquet Association (Cairnlea Melbourne.) where Val Brown was president 2007-2010. We have had a lot of success with our members winning Wimmera Sport’s Star of the year, medals for Country Week and Regionals. Ken Bald, Anna Miller, Fay Pearson, Neville Pope and Ian Rees have all represented the Wimmera, in either or both, the Victorian State Team in Australia and Australia in the World Croquet Association Team overseas. Unfortunately, our clubs and members are slowly decreasing, many residing in the Wimmera don’t even know of our existence or think it’s only for the aged. Croquet is a very strategic, non-contact, challenging and rewarding game with minimal cost involved. Junior Croquet is becoming very popular with juniors especially overseas. Betty Etherton (Publicity Officer WCA)

01.01.2022 Performances for the Victorian Seniors Festival reimagined are often a trip down memory lane for listeners, but Tania Kernaghan experienced her own blast from t...he past when recording her latest contribution. I was over at my brother Lees place and I mentioned the seniors festival and that I was going to record another song, and he said, Why dont we do it now?. It was a golden opportunity hes hard to nail down. So, he played the piano and sang some backing vocals and I sang as an old song, Tennessee Waltz, that we used to sing when we were kids in our little band the Angels and the blue devils. We ended up having a bit of a jam. It was really great. #VicSeniorsFestival #InTheGroove #TaniaKernaghan #LeeKernaghan #CountryMusic #Music
