20.01.2022 This is Kate. Kate knows that picking weights that are too heavy for you doesn't miraculously improve your technique. It detracts from the actual point of bettering your technique and allowing your brain to understand the movement in the process. In fact, it makes your brain go "Oh shit, this is farking heavy!!" and suddenly you're doing things that you didn't think were possible. And not in a good way. (Think being chewed up and spat out while holding a barbell) Kate knows that finding a weight that doesn't impact on your technique is the best option. Kate knows where it's at. 20.01.2022 On Saturday, we took part in the Australian Bushfire WOD to raise money for fire affected areas across Australia, with all proceeds going to @redcrossau. We are pleased to announce that yesterday, we sent off our final funds raised total of $1,115.00. Thank you so much to all the members of @crossfit_4551 who made this possible and for any and all donations that were made on the day and the days following. We are so grateful to everyone for digging deep to give to this cause.... To know that there are so many people out there who have been affected by the fires for weeks or even months now is pure devastation. To those who have been affected, we see you, we hear you, and we will continue to do whatever we can to help you. For now, we hope this money goes to where it is needed to help. 17.01.2022 Over the last 2 weeks, we have had the pleasure of coaching the vast majority of our members via @zoom_video_communications The ones we haven't aren't the "video chat" type people, and that's okay, because each day, they are doing the wods and posting photos and scores and to be honest, that is all we as coaches can hope for. In this time of uncertainty and isolation, your physical and mental health is SUCH an important part of your being that you need to tend to each day. ... Think of it like an indoor plant. You pop it in a corner that gets no natural light and dont water it, and it will literally dwindle right before your eyes. But, if you take that same plant and pop it in a spot in your house that recieves an abundance of sunlight and you water it every day, it will grow tall and proud and flourish in a beautiful way. That is your body. We're asked to isolate, but you should be getting some fresh air and sunlight and water each day and if you coincide all that with a daily WOD, both your physical and mental health are being tended to and you will continue to flourish in this unfamiliar situation. If you are one of the lucky ones who has an abundance of equipment at your hands, weve got the workout for you!! If you are one of those who relied on the equipment in your gym and dont have anything but a creative mind, we have ALSO got the workout for you!! Today, we had rowing. Great for those who already had or have hired out one of our @concept2inc rowers, but what about those who don't?? Well, our mate KB had a carton of Peroni, 2 resistance bands, a foam roller, a rolling pin and a skateboard and off she went. We are LOVING all the creative vibes that are coming from all our online sessions at the moment. You dont have equipment?? IMPROVISE!! It's that easy. 17.01.2022 That sense of pride when hard work pays off a massive shout out to @peteyjrobbo for completing our CF4551 online accountability challenge. Petey started off at 85.2kg, waist measured 96cm and hips 94.5cm. He finished on 79.8kg, waist measures 83cm and hips are 92cm (loss of 5.4kg, 13cm off his waist and 2.5cm off his hips). His challenge goal was to lose 5kg and be able to fit back into his good black pants and hit new markers for different benchmark workouts. Next t...ime you try and justify why you can't *insert goal here*, remember this. Pete achieved these results during Covid 19. No gyms were open, but he was online or posting workouts every day. He also works full time. And has a family. But not just your average run-of-the-mill family. He and his wife Bianca have a 3 year old and 9 month old triplets. 4 UNDER 4!! SO... Next time you think of your excuses, instead of thinking about why you can't hit those goals, think about all the reasons why you can and why you should. Change your perspective. 17.01.2022 If you wanted to learn how to dance, would you sign up for advanced salsa classes?? If you wanted to learn how to swim, would you sign up for a competition squad at your local pool?? What about if you wanted to learn how to draw, would you sign up for an art show??... Now what if you wanted to learn about CrossFit?? Would you be okay being thrown in the deep end and hoping like heck you can keep your head above water for the hour long sessions enough to learn all the techniques, movement names and standards, lingo, location of all the equipment all while trying to have fun and make new friends??!? Short answer: NO. Long answer: We have been in business for 10 years now. Each person that has walked in to our gym has been put through the same process of attending our "Onramp" sessions - 2 x 1 hour sessions where one of our experienced coaches will run over the basics of WHY CrossFit works, the fundamentals of our movements and standards and a hands on approach to getting you moving safe enough to be able to head on in to our main stream sessions. My names Macy & i’ve been doing CrossFit for coming up to 3 years now. The past 3 years training at CF4551 has changed my life, I have learnt and grown so much as a person being around all the unreal members we have at our box. The community and team spirit we have here is why I’m so passionate about the sport. I’ve grown up being super competitive and athletic with winning State and National titles in Wakeboarding and competing state level in Volleyball. It goes without saying I love being active and I love competitive sport. Some of my favourite movements we do would have to be HSPU’s, Pull-ups, Clean & Jerk, Pistols, OHS, Toes through Rings, GHD Sit ups, any heavy weightlifting. 11.01.2022 In 2010, we opened our doors with nothing more than enough equipment for a handful of people. We started off with 5 people in our first class and the dreams of one day holding a member base that would surpass the size of the shed we were in. In December, we moved into a space twice the size of our old, and its now the norm to have 15 to 20+ people in our 5am sessions. We started from nothing and from there, our business was built, brick by brick. ... Monday at 12pm, we had to close our doors for an indefinite period of time due to the global pandemic that is affecting everyone. By Wednesday morning, we had converted our entire business to an online format. Someone wise said to our community during the week that "we always give credit to Mr and Mrs B for what they have built here, and they deserve it all, but what they do better than anyone else is they teach us all how to add our own bricks to this building. So it's ours." One of the truest things I have ever heard. We've been shut out of our gym. Not a result anyone wanted, especially us. But in 4 days, you have shown us that without community, without camaraderie, without support, without friendship, without each and every one of you, our "shed" is nothing but four walls. Every single person, wether past or present, is a brick amongst the mortar of what makes our shed what it is. Without you, we have nothing. But without the shed, we have everything we need and more. The past 4 days has seen us (virtually) face to face with long time members, recent members, brand new faces and faces we havent seen in a long time and have missed so much. In our time of need and solitude, thank you so much to you all, each and every one of you, for being the bricks that have built our community from the foundation up. It's different. It's a bit to get used to. But for the unforeseeable future, it's our CrossFit 4551. And I am so honoured to have you all along with us for this crazy ride. 09.01.2022 Bush Fire Fundraiser WOD - THIS SATURDAY 11th This Saturday 11th January we will be joining boxes all over Australia and participating in TWL Australian Bushfire WOD Fundraiser. We have modified it slightly to suit our programming. Everyone is invited to come and join us to help fund raise as much money as possible for The Red Cross, to support those effected by the Bushfires.... The WOD will run at 6am at CrossFit 4551 and is shown below: In pairs complete the following, 20 Rounds for time: 100m Farmers Carry, 24kg (16Kg) 10 Power cleans, 60kg (42.5kg) 15 Air Squats (one person works, one person rests) Ideally entry will be $30/team, however we realise that some people may have already donated to the cause, so any donation will be suffice. This also applies if you are unable to participate in the workout or would like to come down and cheer your mates on. Every cent helps. Spread the word to as many people as possible and donate what ever you are able to on the day!
08.01.2022 I couldn't love this more. Anyone who knows anything about us knows that we have sunshine in our lives most days. And by sunshine, I mean Sue. I will never forget the moment Sue walked in to our gym all those years ago just to ask us about Crossfit. The day she came in, we were rope climbing, and there were people going up and down all over the joint and the fear of God in her eyes was, although understandable, a little bit amusing to us. Poor Suebeez thought that in order to... come to the gym she needed to be able to climb that rope 10 times over and be okay with it. Spoiler alert: she didn't. Mick took her aside to talk to her about all things Crossfit with the big emphasis being on "EVERYTHING is modifiable and EVERYTHING is scalable". When I take my onramps, I explain to people that the only thing that I dislike about Crossfit is the fact that people who know nothing about it, jump on the Googles and what they find scares them. Of course, the most liked and most viewed items show up which is generally speaking bad ass athletes doing bad ass shit. And it scares them, so they shut it down. There isn't an "ease in" to Crossfit when you Google stuff. And keep in mind, there is only a very small percent of athletes worldwide who are at that level. You don't have to be a Crossfitter to do Crossfit. What you do have to do is leave your ego at the door, be open to being coached and cued, understand that safety is paramount and we will ask you to pull back slightly if we think your form is compromised, and be open to making a whole new crew of friends. 04.01.2022 On Monday, we celebrated our 10th birthday as a registered CrossFit affiliate. We've seen a lot of people come and go in that time, but we have been so lucky to... have a lot more people come and stay and that speaks volumes about the community that we have, the community that has evolved and the community that you guys have single handedly helped to mould and shape over the last 10 years. There aren't too many people that can say they have been in business as long as we have, let alone survived in one of the most transient industries and surviving not only a global pandemic but a global financial crisis too. Every single member, current or past, has given us the opportunity to be where we are now. And we will continue to be grateful to you all for being the wings that we have been "given to fly". 02.01.2022 Final 4551 Wod in the stomping ground. What a ride it's been. So much has happened inside these walls over the last 10 years - from people's first ever CrossFit wods, PBs, friendships, relationships, engagements weddings, ALLLLLLL the little babies walked through the doors for the first time, CrossFit teens becoming CrossFit adults, all the members, coaches, spectators, volunteers...the list goes on. Standing in here on my own right now knowing the next time were in here is n...ot to workout but to gut the inside of the place we've all called our second home for the last 10 year's seems so surreal. When we started we were concerned the space was too big for the members we had. And now... we laugh and we laugh. Thank you to every single person who has stepped through the front door of our little dream. Wether you're a long time member or newbie or have been and gone or no longer with us, we appreciate every single one of you for joining us along the way. Nothing makes me happier as a coach to see people hit achievements and goals they have hunted down for so long. (Starting date - 27th January) Ok mate, Here’s the scoop.... weighed in this morning at 99.7kg so will pull up stumps two days early. Measurements: I lost 16 cm chest 17 cm waist 11 cm hips 3 cm thigh .... total 47 cm all up Officially 22kg, but at my worst I was 126 so likely around 25kg. Can’t Thank you enough mate. Pushing me and supporting me thru this has not only changed my life, but the way I was when I started Crossfit with you, you have likely saved my life. I haven’t been under 100 kg for 32 years. For that my wife, and my family, will be forever grateful to you. Thanks again Mick. You are a champion, an inspirational man and a life saver. My shout for the VB’s very soon. Brenno

01.01.2022 ATTENTION CROSSFIT 4551 PAST AND PRESENT MEMBERS!! This is Eli. Eli is Stuart "Disco Stu" Kent's son and at 12 years old, he has been dealt a nasty blow. On the 4th of Feb, doctors found tumours in Eli's leg and the next few months are going to be tough for the Kent's. Stu and Jackie have had to relocate to Brisbane for the next 6-9 months and put their lives on hold while Eli goes through chemo and further tests, which is not a position anyone should have to be in, especiall...y a child. So, this Saturday the 15th of Feb, we are calling on our 4551 ARMY to come on down to the box, where we will be hosting a "Rise For Eli" wod, which will be open to any past and present members. Stu was a part of our immediate 4551 family back in the day, which means he and his family are forever part of our extended family, so if any one of our current or past members would like to come and help support the Kent's, we would be more than honoured to have you. We will provide the gym, beats and bbq, if you guys could provide the support. Donations of any size are more than welcome and will be collected in the donations bin at the door upon entry AND one of our members has organised a coffee van to be there, with $1 from every coffee sold going towards Eli's cause. We will then send our total amount to Eli's Go Fund Me page on behalf of 4551 and all of its members - those who are still here and those who have since long gone. Please get down and support Eli if you can and we look forward to an absolutely pumping morning for a great cause. RISE FOR ELI!!
