17.01.2022 One workout a day, for the vast majority of people, is plenty. The workout may even have to be scaled down from the prescribed version for most people. It is important to note that the vast majority of CrossFit workouts last less than 20 minutes. Short-duration workouts leave plenty of time to work on weaknesses and skills while mentally and physically fresh. There is also time in the cool-down to work on flexibility and rehabilitation/pre-habilitation. Use this time effectively to improve your capacity. Instead of trying to fit all training into one day, put all of yourself into one training session. Use the rest of the time until the next day's workout to rebuild. Do less better and you'll be better for it. @crossfittraining L1

17.01.2022 With very heavy hearts we bid farewell to the magnificent coach Matt Hueppauff. Matt and his partner Amy are moving back home to WA to be closer to friends and family. For the last 2.5 years Matt has been a huge part of the CFB community. He has helped so many of you begin your CrossFit journey and his passion for improving your experience has pushed us coaches, the gym, and facilities to greater heights. He is a friend of CFB who will always hold a special place between ...these walls. We had been hoping to give Matty a big send off but the recent developments in relation to the South Australia COVID situation and Western Australian Border policies meant that Matt, Amy, and Hazel had to throw their plans out the window and bolt towards the west. We love you @noseabreezeplease, @hazel_therescuepuppy, and @amyforti92 and hope that you have the best time back in the west. 15.01.2022 On Saturday 7/11 at 10:00am our resident weightlifting expert Matthew Leonard Drew will be performing a snatch clinic on 7/11/20 at 10:00am. The session is designed to improve your snatch but more specifically to help you get faster and to feel more confident dropping under the bar with speed. The class will be strictly limited to 20 people. Reservations are available for members through Zen Planner and non-members can reserve a spot by messaging [email protected]. The session is $15/members and $25/non-members.

15.01.2022 Injury rates in the masters population are correlated more with overuse than intensity (Langer, 2015), and injury rates in a trained masters population are actually low and do not increase with age (Ganse et al., 2012). Intensity plays an important role in actually reducing injury risk because of the associated reduction in volume. It is actually extremes of endurance exercise and prolonged (or chronic) training that adversely affect the health of older athletes (Eijsvogels et al., 2016). ~ @crossfittraining

14.01.2022 Here's to our newest member of the 300 Class Club, Sandra Wiedecke Sandra came to CFB in June of 2018 looking to "find something challenging" as attending her 24/7 gym had led her to become a little inconsistent at times and lacking motivation. Like a large number of members who get started, learning so many new movements felt a little overwhelming. Sandra was trying so hard to learn everything perfectly the first time and would often swear at herself in her native German... language when something didn't go right. It was cause for a number of laughs. Since those days Sandra has continued to chip away, all the time continuing to improve herself both in and outside of the gym. 2021 has a few new goals in store, which have come about with the recent purchases of her (and partner's) home in Ballina Congratulations Sandra, and we look forward to many more classes to come #crossfitballina #crossfit #300classclub See more

11.01.2022 TRUST To get the best results from your training you need coaches that you can trust. Trust that they genuinely want what is best for you. Trust that they have the knowledge to help you. Trust that they will challenge you to see what you are capable of but also trust that they will not push you to do something that you can't handle. Trust that you can communicate with them and that you will be heard. When this is done well you will leave the gym feeling accomplished, challen...ged, but not broken. In practice a good coach will push you to your own relative intensity. This will take into account your current physical and psychological state and will often vary from day to day. Today we tackle a 5k (run, row, etc.). Being able to move for longer aerobic efforts is one of the most necessary physical skills to have as a fully functioning human (from break wall walks to running a marathon). Although it is an essential component of fitness we know that it is anything but easy. For many this is a massive step outside their comfort zones. As a result we offer lots of options to meet your physical and psychological state. Today's effort will look very different from one person to the next. Some, due to injury, will be biking/rowing or even creating a mini triathlon. Many people will be reducing distances; Some will be walking + shuffling. It is about finding something that is a step outside your comfort zone but also one that you can tackle both physically and psychologically. A coach will challenge and support you to do things that you never thought were possible. #crossfit #getacoach #functionaltraining #ballina #northcoastnsw #strengthandconditioning #crossfittraining #fitness #5km #marathon #biggerthanthebuilding @crossfitanz @crossfittraining See more

11.01.2022 Technique -> consistency -> intensity is the path for longevity and maximising your potential. Chasing intensity before the foundations are set leads to short term blunted progress, increased injury risk, and burnout. #crossfit #crossfittraining #functionalfitness #ballina #northcoastnsw #fitness #weightlifting #strength #pushpress

10.01.2022 Welcome to the club Lynne! Lynne and her partner Bruce are some of the most recognizable members of the 7am crew. She is one of the most welcoming members and is always there to encourage other class mates as they progress through their fitness journey. Last year was a big one for Lynne, who managed to keep up a regular training routine, even through the 3 months of lockdown. She was a regular on the Zoom calls and we loved getting a glimpse into her beautiful home and backy...ard full of black cockatoos. Thanks for spending so many hours with us and for making CrossFit Ballina a better place for so many. #crossfit #500classclub #welcometotheclub #crossfittraining #northcoastnsw #ballina #functionaltraining #functionalfitness

10.01.2022 Welcome to the cluuuuuub @Alister Debritt!!! This big dog recently ticked over the 500 class mark! Al brings his sweet smile, caring nature, impeccable wardrobe, and occasionally the crowd favourite Albi (his Cavoodle) to the gym. We can honestly say that everyone, coaches, members, kids etc. is stoked to see Al walk through the doors. 07.01.2022 Welcome the latest member to the 300 Class Club, Andrew Smith Andrew (Lisa’s husband) started his journey with us back in October of 2018 with a goal of improving his movement restrictions that had crept in from years of field (union, league, hockey) sports and triathlons. Andrew had always tried to keep moving but had become more aware of how his body was feeling. Having Lisa as an existing member, with her encouragement and support Smithy got started and hasn’t looked ba...ck. He understands that improvements in both range of motion and technique takes time, having said that he is always up for challenge and works well with the coaches to scale the WOD to what suits him best. Andrew’s normal response to a workout is that was a good one!. Congratulations Andrew and thanks for being an awesome member and we look forward to you powering on to the 500 Class Club

07.01.2022 .. You need to be able to deadlift, your grandparents need to be able to deadlift and your kids need to be able to deadlift. There are few movements more functional and important to a quality life than a deadlift. To maintain independence and a high quality of life everyone needs to be able to lift weights safely off of the ground. If you can't lift an object like a barbell in a controlled gym setting safely then you are going to struggle with all the odd objec...ts that you are often required to lift outside the gym. For some grandparents this might be simply lifting your grocery bags or picking up a grandchild while for high level athletes this might be hundreds of kg to maximize power, speed and as a result sports performance. #getacoach #crossfit #functionaltraining #ballina #northcoastnsw #functionalfitness #crossfittraining #gym See more

06.01.2022 @janellelstephen 400 classes, 80kg deadlift, 60+ years of experience and a wonderful human. Coach Greg Glassman once stated that his greatest fear was living a long life without the basic functionality to enjoy it, i.e., spending 100 years on the planet and requiring the support of others to perform basic daily tasks for 40 of them. That is a very real prospect for the majority of humans in the western world: a later life that is marred by ill health and spent largely in ...the nursing home. Our greatest motivation as trainers and coaches should be to not only extend the lives of our clients but also prevent the decline of functionality with age. The goal is a life well-lived. ~ CrossFit Masters Training Guide #crossfittraining #functionalfitness #dreamfactory @crossfitanz @crossfittraining #ballina #northcoastnsw #strengthandconditioning #sumodeadlift #beetrootplates See more

01.01.2022 Meet the winner of the 800g Challenge, Bruce Lovell. Bruce is a consistent face amongst the Silver Sevens and was and completed regular ZOOM sessions with wife Lynne Lovell during the lockdown. The biggest change from the 800g challenge Bruce noted was a positive impact on his reflux and finding himself eating more fruit then usual. Below is one of his favourite recipes for you to try. Bruce also thinks outside the box, on one occasion microwaving macadamia nuts in an effort ...to open the shells in a timelier manner, he reports that they exploded, smashing the glass container they were in! Congratulations to Bruce and all the participants, enjoy the recipe! Serves 4: 3 Tablespoons olive oil 1 Onion, chopped 1 garlic clove, finely chopped 1 teaspoon harissa teaspoon paprika teaspoon ginger teaspoon turmeric 1 teaspoon cumin 1 teaspoon cinnamon 400g tin chopped tomatoes 1 teaspoon sugar 2x 420g tins chickpeas 3 tablespoon chopped parsley 2 tablespoons chopped coriander Put the olive oil and onion in a large saucepan and cook over medium heat for 7-8 mins or until softened. Stir in the garlic, harissa and the spices and cook gently for 2 minutes. Add tomato and season to taste. Cover and simmer for 20min Meanwhile drain the chickpeas and put them in a large bowl with enough cold water to cover well. Lift up handfuls of chickpeas and run them together to loosen the skins. Run more water into the bowl, stir well and let the skins float to the top and skim them off. Repeat until skins have been removed. Drain the chickpeas and stir them into the tomato mixture. Cover and simmer for 20-25mins, adding a little more water if necessary. Stir through parsley and coriander to taste. Serve with squeeze of lime onto and with crusty bread See more
