20.01.2022 Part two of our very popular "Puppy Pilates" course starts soon! This 6 week class runs on a private FB page. This part of the course covers the foundation for lateral stands (2 and 3 legs) and abduction/ adduction. We also start to introduce the concept of ROM and cavaletti criteria, in a highly positive environment. Use location reward markers to help your dog or puppy understand their job, using safe and age appropriate exercises on stable surfaces. Fast feedback and exp...erienced problem solving for working spots. Working spots can post as many videos as they need for feedback and suggestions, and auditors can see all the information, videos and comments, can ask questions, but don't post their own videos. 18.01.2022 People often ask about bungee vs flat leashes to match their harness. When asked what I use, my answer is always both. Bungee leashes are absolutely invaluable for biking, scootering, hiking and leash walking where you’d like your dog to have a bit more freedom. They delay the feedback between both ends of the leash, so both ends can comfortably move around a little without effecting the other. Great for sore necks, arthritis, bad knees, dogs rehabbing from injury. Perfect...! Unless.... You NEED feedback down the leash. When would that be you ask? High traffic areas, dogs that are reactive, in and environment they may react in, dogs in training not to pull on the leash...Anywhere you need a little bit of feedback to your dog to be close and stay close. In that case you need a flat leash, to give and get real time feedback through the leash. I love equestrian rope leashes because they feel so nice and soft in the hand, and are really durable and perish resistant. So in real life for me, that looks like Sota, who can be reactive to dogs, is always on a flat leash when we might run into other dogs... so trials, parks and other public places places. All the time no exception. The rest of the time he’s either off leash or on a bungee hiking or biking. Connie is still a baby. She would be on a flat leash around public places, so I can give her guidance as to her position in relation to me, but also ensure she doesn’t actually walk in front of a car or jump on a strange dogs face for kisses. And come to harm. Hiking bush walks and anywhere quiet she’s always on a bungee. Tessy is the worlds most polite dog, and wouldn’t pull if her life depended on it, so she can happily have a bungee leash for all situations. This helps her feel confident about her movement, she doesn’t like any leash pressure, so the bungee absorbs a lot of my movement for her. Happy Tess! Here’s a little clip of Tess and Connie walking in a busy arena in town, trying to keep up our Iso puppy socialisation. You can see neither girl pulls on the leash, I’m holding them both with one finger, but if I need to I can keep Connie with me and stop her motion because her leash doesn’t stretch. Tessy has a lot more freedom so there’s a lot of trust there. If we were out on a trail or quiet road, Connie would also be on a bungee leash, both on a walking belt.
