17.01.2022 One of the strongest held beliefs was that lifting weights will lead to a growth plate injury. This is a vulnerable area of bone that can be 2-5 times weaker than surrounding tissues. A fracture in this area is a serious injuryhowever barbell training has NOT been shown to increase risk of growth plate injuries when proper supervision and technique instruction are provided. . This means children as young as 6 and 7 can start lifting without fear of sustaining a growth plate... fracture and stunting their growth as long as technique is stressed, and proper weights are prescribed and good coaching is used. . It is even safe for young athletes to find their 1 repetition maximum (1RM) without fear of injury (again provided proper technique and supervision). The force an athlete sustains when performing a maximal strength test (such as a 1 RM squat) is actually less than what they would be exposed to on a daily basis in most other sports. . So, just as with any agelifting weights isnt bad for you unless youre doing it with bad technique and with improper weights. . There is so much amazing information out there. My big brother is 10kg and he isn’t really that tough either, our other siblings are tough ( 15,20,25) but our mummy has decided it’s safest for is that we have a blanket rule to protect us for as long as possible!!! The New rule : Drop the 5’s alone - 10 cal air bike per KG Forget to use clips - 1 burpee per KG !! No matter the lift of the plates touch the floor they must have clips !!! This is our very special member, @thegshot , G has a full-time career and a full life of travel and loved ones...... G is a healthy happy Aussie guy who just likes crossfit and the challenges it provides . G doesnt train twice a day or eat a special diet, he has been at Play since 2017, sometimes taking tome off for life. Back in those early days he had many doubts about ever doing anything as fancy as muscle ups. And sometimes when trying to do it they didnt go that well. .
