20.01.2022 For those that don't know already, we recently lost a lovely man in Des Patterson ... a "gentle giant" and a much loved member of the hope springs, and much wid...er, community. See Cathie Clarke's message below regarding his funeral this Friday 4th Sept, and a memorial service we are planning for the following Tuesday 8th Sept. Rest in peace Des Note from Cathie Clarke: "Please see below for the link to the livestream for Des Patterson’s funeral that is happening this Friday at 1pm. ... ... If you could also let people know that Jon Rumble, Pete Sanders, Julie Giuliani and I are planning a memorial service on Zoom for next Tuesday afternoon, we’ll confirm the time later. If anyone has any photos or ideas to contribute to the service, please let us know." (Cathie's email: [email protected]; jon's email: [email protected]) Link: http://tobin.5stream.com/webcast/57890
20.01.2022 I know there's so much information and advice flying around, but I thought this was good and concise, and marries well with what we've been discussing with peop...le via our phone/zoom follow ups... In particular, I personally believe that trying our best to maintain a healthy (though changed somewhat) routine and daily structure is vital for all of us! Tips for staying mentally healthy: Keep socially connected to others via phone, social media, email or skype. If the news is bothering you, take a break from the news Create a routine to maintain a sense of normalcy, such as regular physical activity, cooking healthy meals and continuing to work or study if you feel well enough and can do so from home. Focus on what you can control for example washing your hands frequently, following physical distancing guidelines instead of what you can’t control ie what other people do. To avoid panic, get your information from reliable sources such as the federal and Victorian health departments. Practice mindfulness: focus on the moment you’re in. Meditation and breathing exercises can help calm your mind and reduce anxiety. Take stock of your emotions: it’s completely normal to feel concerned or upset about what is happening. If you feel anxious, talk to a trusted friend or family member or seek professional help: Phone Lifeline: 13 11 14, BeyondBlue: 1300 224 636 or Headspace: 1800 650 890.

09.01.2022 Dear hope springs facebook folks, sadly due to the coronavirus crisis it has been decided to cancel all of the hope springs programmed activities for one mont...h. This includes monday art and music groups, wednesday womens group and drop-in, and all outings and other scheduled programs (such as the movie night which was scheduled for this coming friday night). The advice from Health Authorities are clear, this is the best way to protect all our people and reduce the risk of the infection spreading through the community. We will recontact when the situation changes. Until then, please do not hesitate to phone or email if you need to discuss this or are seeking support. Jon Rumble (Coordinator), JJ (Women's program coordinator), and Frances Wright (Chairperson Hope Springs Management Committee)
