25.01.2022 How's your breakfast this morning? You can't get much simpler, tasty or nutritionally better than a couple of eggs. If you are eating a breakfast of course. It doesn't work for everyone and it's definitely not the most important meal of the day.
24.01.2022 First meal in a fortnight looks happy to see me too
22.01.2022 I've been tracking my blood pressure relentlessly for more than a few years. I was diagnosed with high BP longer ago than I care to admit and never wanted to go on medication if there was a better way, which there is. Fasting appears to have lowered it even further so it will be interesting to see how it goes as I reintroduce food into the equation. I'll be looking to see if anything reacts substantially. First reading was my resting read, still in bed and reading two is ...after a couple of cups of bone broth in the last few hours. Also, been busy cooking like a good husband. It's not uncommon for a resting/just waking up reading to be higher than you might expect as when you wake up there's a bit of a cortisol spike to get you going.
21.01.2022 It is a sobering fact that too many of us are dying unnecessarily and early from diseases that brought about by poor choices. For decades we have been told that we need to eat well and exercise but how many people do you know firsthand who want all of their health to come in pill form? Well it doesn't and trials of drugs that are supposed to negate obesity through poor eating habits continue to fail miserably.... As none of us are getting any younger, if you are reading this and thinking that maybe you're only ten, or fifteen years away from retirement, maybe it is time to think about the quality of life you are going to endure in the blink of an eye. It is predicted that with the rising number of type 2 diabetes and cost of treatment in the United States, that it will bankrupt the U.S by 2050 at present rates. Expect significant cost increases in health care very soon or take the other option, look after yourself now.
21.01.2022 To update on my fasting progress, my weight has been steadily increasing back towards my previous weight, about 4kg to go and i would consider it normal. I have struggled to get on track as an intermittent faster where my eating window is between 10 a.m and 4 p.m each day but it is a goal and if I keep my eye on it I know it will eventually come about. I have also struggled with keeping my foods to really simple meat and vegetable recipes, I have been craving fruit buns since...Continue reading
20.01.2022 Put a chicken into the pot early this morning as I'm looking to increase my caloric consumption and need more soup and a little bit of chicken to start introducing to my gut biome. 10 a.m after returning from a wet wild beautiful walk on the beach with the dogs and it's ready to go. Added more bone broth and collagen, the taste is amazing. Food so easy that even I can cook it, got to love that. Bonus, it lacks nothing in flavour, although Bo added prawns and stuff to hers which did make it next level!
20.01.2022 Intermittent fasting is associated with longevity, eat when you are hungry and stop when you are satisfied.
19.01.2022 Cholesterol lowering statins, over five years an average increase in life expectancy of FOUR days..... Most people stop taking them well beforehand due to adverse side effects.

18.01.2022 14 days ago today I began a period of fasting with no set end date, just a curiosity to understand what it felt like not to eat regular daily meals. I had undertaken some training in fasting prior to beginning this fast, initial fasts over the last 12 months of 2, 3 and almost 4 days but had always had to cut it short due to work commitments and the need not to kill anyone doing so. Knowing that I needed a long period away from work I scheduled a months leave with the intenti...on of seeing how long I could fast for, knowing that at any stage I could have a nanny nap and if I passed out it wouldn't be whilst I was driving a heavy vehicle. The main reasons why I wanted to fast include, potentially improving my eyesight, doing a major reset internally and most importantly because I believe so much in what I do and the significance of the right lifestyle. Plus, if I was coaching someone through it< I want to know what they are experiencing firsthand. I am going to get into the science of fasting in another article because it is seriously fascinating stuff. Today marks the end of my fast, I feel great mostly, though I am having to get used to my blood pressure being a lot lower than normal, I think it has stabilised but I will keep monitoring it as I very slowly reintroduce food to my body. From tomorrow I start consuming high quality bone broth and lots of collagen, it isn't super flavoursome but I am willing to wager it will be the tastiest food that has ever crossed my lips, ever! This will be my source of sustenance for several days at least, as much as I want to chow down on some tasty pork spare ribs, heaps of avocado and roasted pumpkin, I know that there's a golden opportunity here and repopulating my gut is my priority. There will be plenty of spare ribs still available when I am ready. If you are interested, my diet for the past fortnight : Water, soda water, sodium and magnesium. I wanted to include potassium but it is unavailable without a script for whatever reason which was a great shame considering it is essential to the energy production at the cellular level. My decision to stop fasting today was based purely upon my bathroom scales, I can't really afford to lose too many kilos and I dropped around seven, so with safety in mind..... Ironically I have sought out food smells all the time and thoroughly enjoyed cooking meals for the family, just couldn't taste them to see what they were like. I have included a photo of myself, I don't claim to be pretty after 14 days and will also upload a little video where I knock out about 35? pushups. For the record it is the second set I didn't think to video the first one as I was just curious as to how I would go, so that's about 70 with a few minutes rest. Not bad on an empty stomach!
18.01.2022 Haven't had a meal like this in some time and it was absolutely delicious, I've been wanting to come to this restaurant for longer than I would care to admit so big thanks to Bo for taking me out to lunch, much love #helloinsulinresponse #enjoyfood
17.01.2022 If you want any evidence that your local gym might not be the best source of nutritional information...... Just add a half cup of sugar to your protein smoothie
15.01.2022 It's great weather for a BBQ in the beautiful best season that is Autumn. I did try to barbie up some chicken liver earlier, it wasn't the worst but it is a long way short of becoming a dietary staple.
11.01.2022 There's never been a more pressing time to take charge of your health, doing everything that you can do today, to avoid the health/hospital system tomorrow.
11.01.2022 Good to see the medical profession is starting to understand the influence that food plays in health. I've seen a few of these articles recently.
10.01.2022 Of course they do.
10.01.2022 Fasting is the new fad in weight loss I was informed by the owner of my gym this week when I talked to him about my journey of the previous fortnight. My initial reaction was to dismiss it as a credible tool in losing weight, sure I had dropped 7 kg in a fortnight but of course I expected that starting to eat food again would unlock the beast.. The beast is a hormone named Grehlin with the primary task of making you feel hungry and although I had minimal hunger during the las...t nine days, I was expecting to be consuming a lot of food in order to make up for what I haven't eaten. Since Wednesday I have eaten bone broth initially then chicken soup (homemade of course) with very small portions of chicken, with bone broth and collagen added and today I tried some scrambled eggs and avocado. I am finding that I have to relearn what my portions that I eat actually look like as my sense of fullness has totally changed. So I am going to conclude that it would appear that a sufficient length of fast could in fact be a very effective form of reducing food intake, when a careful approach to reintroducing food is taken. Eating to satiety when you love food is far easier if your stomach feels considerably smaller, it probably isn't but your hunger hormone is much more subdued so you could feel like you have had a gastric band fitted without the surgery. If you are going to attempt a fast longer than two days then you will want to do lots of research and get yourself set up for success, failure can be a bitter pill to swallow. Maybe enlist the services of a good health coach? Money well spent and all that..... A huge word of caution if you just want to rush blindly into a long fast. REFEEDING syndrome can occur when your body is depleted of certain minerals, mainly sodium, magnesium and potassium. Refeeding syndrome can lead to serious complications including death and the worst affected would be the least healthy prior to starting a fast. Good nutrition matters always. The usual disclaimer: Do not attempt any fast without discussing it with your GP beforehand, you won't be able to purchase potassium supplements anywhere without a script and potassium is dangerous in doses too high and too low. There is always something to think about when you are taking responsibility for your own health and well being. Have a great week Tony.
10.01.2022 Back to the grind after four fantastic weeks of self, not the worst way to start...
05.01.2022 Before I began my journey I was pre hypertension (150/100) my GP had convinced me that I had to go on medication (which I'd been avoiding for almost a decade) I decided that I would follow his advice, reduce my sodium consumption to 2 grams a day..... It didn't work. It did all come down to food though and the further I journey, the more I learn, the better health I am experiencing. ... It's true what they say about knowledge being power.
05.01.2022 For the last six months, maybe longer I have felt totally burnt out in so far as studying, business and life in general goes. I am pretty sure that it isn't something exclusive to me, I know it isn't. Whilst I have gone about the business of living, all the while wondering what the f*** is wrong with me having absolutely zero motivation, the one thing I have been able to maintain is my eating lifestyle and regular exercise. I have eaten a couple of hot donuts as well....The s...hame. I just wanted to post this today and apologise for being absent, also if you are interested I am going to do a follow up post tomorrow, big commitment which I hope you will find interesting, enlightening and encouraging. kind regards, Tony
03.01.2022 Quick 2nd set on 14th day of fast, just curious as to how they felt and how I felt.
03.01.2022 A single serve of "fries" has an immediate effect on your arteries for up to 48 hours after consumption. I'll share the research asap.
