23.01.2022 The COPACC foyer was a hive of activity (pun intended) this morning for our CrossXpollinatioN school holiday workshop. Children made needle-felted bees using wool dyed by Tom at Tarndie. What a wonderful morning weve had with environmental artist Veronica Phillips!

Sues work is one of many on display at this years CrossXpollinatioN exhibition; a festival celebrating textile and fibre arts in its seventh year at COPACC. Ebb and Flow, made from reclaimed blankets, natural dyes and materials, is a demonstration of the artists creativ...e language using fabric and thread to create a work multi-layered in meaning in response to the exhibitions theme Connections. 23.01.2022 Colac artist, researcher and art educator Jenny Grenfell has taken out CrossXpollinatioNs 2019 Peoples Choice Award with her entry The Ecology of Landscape. A record 1159 votes were posted in this years Peoples Choice Award thats only five less votes than the entire attendance at CrossXpollinatioN 2018 with Jennys entry capturing the imaginations of visitors. Jennys freestanding tri-panel of silk, wool and other natural fibres moves viewers through the landscape, ...exploring the connection between fauna and flora; feeling, hearing and seeing; through the mind, the eye and the hand. Jane Bears felted CrossXpollinatioN entry Grounded came a close second in the Peoples Choice Award, followed by Heather Frizzells whimsically suited fox Percy.

19.01.2022 What do you think of the visible mend trend? "In the U.S. alone, over 17 billion pounds of office furniture and equipment is sent to landfill every year. " Repa...iring things helps keep them useful and out of a landfill! Credit to the Up-cycled Cloth Collective for this sweet visible mend on a couch!

Congratulations to Jeanette Stok who received the Connections Art Prize for her incredible piece entitled Protection. And we concur. Jeanette is pictu...red here with Mayor Jason Schram. Protection is on display daily as part of CrossXpollinatioN from 10am to 4pm until July 17. Entry is by gold coin donation. 16.01.2022 Envy can eat you up. It's like a wound or tumour, an ulcer of the mind and canker of the body. 'Envy Under the Microscope 1 - Resistance' by Carole Redlich is the 21st piece in this year's adapted CrossXpollinatioN. It focuses on envy which is not merely wanting someone else's life but wanting them not to have it and wishing ill for them. ... Even thought to impair digestion resulting in "grevious maladies". Ovid imagined envy as a person who was completely grotesque, with 'sallow cheeks', 'shrunk body', 'decayed teeth' and 'venom-coated tongue'. Vote for your favourite and see all the entries here https://www.copacc.com.au/Xpo/Life-Exhibition-and-Art-Prize Voting closes Sunday so don't wait, vote now. #crossxpollination #crossxpollinationadaptation #xpoladapt #machineknitting #exhibition #exhibitions
15.01.2022 Would you buy one of their recycled scarves or blankets? What role is there for recycled Australian made textiles in the modern world? Where does art meet manufacturing?
15.01.2022 A resident of Hamnavoe, Shetland Islands in Scotland, Anne Eunson decided to knit herself a beautiful lace fence using twine. The fence is fashioned from strong... black twine - the same kind that is used to make fishing nets - and Anne knitted it on specially adapted curtain rods. It took her about three weeks to knit enough lace to surround her front garden, using a 23 stitch repeat of a familiar Shetland lace pattern. *Photo via Laine Glover, Social History
15.01.2022 This is Jeanette. She is from Timboon and is one of the original seamstresses from the Fletcher Jones factory. Shes pictured here with David from the Australia...n Fashion Council after our Creative Industries session focussing on Design and Fashion. Jeanette came along because she has a new passion brewing for making quality garments but she brought with her an incredible story and history linked to the fashion industry in Warrnambool. We have three sessions left to roll out, each with a different focus. Come along! The discussions were having are so wonderful and useful. 10.01.2022 The beauty of youth. The flush of growth. As Robert Frost said, 'Nature's first green is gold'. So take time to appreciate the special moments of life and find life’s beauty in a single flower. ‘Forever Pink Bloom’ by Chelsea Sharp is the 23rd piece in the CrossXpollinatioN Adaptation Exhibition.... This work focuses on the finest moment of life, when the flower is fully blossomed. The Artist notes that although the flower she has created will be this stage forever, most flowers will slowly wilt, discolour and die. If you love this piece then give it your vote for the $500 People's Choice Award. 10.01.2022 As COPACC gets ready to lower the curtains on its seventh CrossXpollinatioN fibre and textile art exhibition, its founder and former Artistic Director Carole Redlich has reflected on the journey of bringing the exhibition to life. Carole was one-half of the creative force that helped drive the exhibition from a discussion with COPACCs former manager Karen Patterson at her kitchen table; to a demonstration of the diversity of creative talent living and working in the region a...nd further afield. And despite a few nervous moments, a couple of setbacks and tweaks in the formula along the way, their dream of establishing a fibre arts exhibition in Colac begun. Carole has continued to be a guiding light behind the scenes for the COPACC team this year, and were eternally grateful for her support. CrossXpollinatioNs last days are tomorrow and Wednesday from 10am to 4pm. 10.01.2022 Oscar Wilde famously said life was too important to be taken seriously; while John Lennon believed that life was what happened when you were busy making other plans. Whichever way you view Life, it provides a rich canvas for fibre and textile artists to interpret as the theme for CrossXpollinatioN 2020. The Life theme has been inspired by next years feature artist Andrew John Delaney, whose work will span life, death and the things that exist between.... Its time to get inspired fibre and textile friends. You can read more about CrossXpollination 2020 here: https://www.colacotway.vic.gov.au//Life-is-the-theme-of-Cr

07.01.2022 Did you have a special place in your garden or local park where you could contemplate life this year? Hilary Peterson's 'Frog Garden', the 24th entry in the exhibition, brings such a place to mind. It shows both the beauty and fragility of nature found in the Artist's garden. Even sourcing the dyes used from the plants found there along with natural ochres. ... The presentation of the work reflects the scrolls which the Artist saw when traveling in Japan. Is this your favourite entry? You only have until tomorrow to vote in the People's Choice Award so don't miss out! One successfully took survival action. The other lost, engulfed and destroyed. Honoring my brother, Five volunteer firefighters that died in the Linton bushfire in Victoria 22 years ago, lives were changed forever.'
