25.01.2022 No matter what happens, stick to your program. Ive said stay the course a thousand times, and meant it every time. 25.01.2022 Having a strong retirement system is good for the economy. It means retirees can have more discretionary spending in their golden years and it also hopefully means less money is needed from the government to fund the aged pension. Its good for everybody. The only argument against more money in the superannuation is that it delays short-term spending for the economy. www.crothersaa.com.au #retirementplanning #retirement #financialplanning #financialfreedom #lifeinsurance #investing #investment #retirementgoals #money #financialadvisor #financialliteracy #wealth #finance #personalfinance #financialindependence #savings #wealthmanagement #seniorliving #estateplanning #retirementplan #financialplanner #financialeducation #retirementcommunity #seniorcare
25.01.2022 Some good news.....But hang on to your hats for further volatility. The Dow Jones Industrial Average surged 1352 points or 6.4 per cent in New York trading overnight which sets up an increase to the ASX today! As a result, the benchmark is now 21 per cent higher from its Monday low, establishing it in a bull market. The gains recorded in the past three days were the indexs strongest three-day percentage increase since 1931. www.crothersaa.com.au ... #opportunityknocks #directshares #asx200 #cashratessoloooowwww#sharesonsale #longtermgrowth #portfolioconstruction #stockselection #bluechipshares #financialplanning #compoundinterest #professionaladvice #alburywodonga #strongerwodonga #familybusiness See more

21.01.2022 The Morrison Government has just announced that it will extend the early super access scheme amidst new economic data. The application period for early access to superannuation will be extended from 24 September to 31 December 2020 for individuals who are still financially impacted by COVID-19. 20.01.2022 Investors woke to the shocking news that a key oil benchmark turned negative in overnight trade for the first time in history. But what does this mean for ASX investors and are our energy stocks therefore worthless? The futures contract for the West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude to be delivered in May plunged to minus US$37.63 a barrel. This means oil producers are paying their customers to take the commodity. You have to stand back and appreciate the moment. 18.01.2022 All of us at Crothers & Associates have been deeply affected by the recent bushfires across the country, in particular within the local communities of the Upper Murray, which has had a devastating effect on some of our clients. Our office wanted to raise some funds in which will go a small way with helping rebuild our clients communities and their relevant livelihoods. With this, and special mention to Zabuui Hair Designers Wodonga Hairdresser and Dione May, and the respect...ive people who donated we are extremely pleased to report that we have raised $4,209.00 within the last few weeks which has been used to purchase MG Trading (Murray Goulburn Corryong) vouchers in which we have hand delivered to these affected clients, and also people that have lost their homes within the Upper Murray. Several days have also been spent helping re-establish properties with required fencing, which will still take further weeks to restore. We encourage everyone to help these amazing people, as it will take several months, if not years for them to financially and emotionally recover. 17.01.2022 The Morrison government will this week extend the instant asset write-off of $150,000 by another six months to December at an expected cost of $300 million in an effort to prevent a further crash in business investment. The instant asset write-off scheme provides immediate tax deductions for small and medium-sized businesses. Assets that can be written off under the scheme can be new or second hand and could include, for example, a truck for a delivery business or a tractor for a farming business. www.crothersaa.com.au #smallbusiness #taxdeduction #assetwriteoff #extended #150k #afr

16.01.2022 Bank shares have long been a staple of dividend investors, however bank dividends are no longer as reliable as they once were. Earlier today the CBA slashed FY20 dividends by 31%. Bank dividend payout ratios may not return to pre-virus levels until a couple of years, at best. With banks paying out a lower proportion of profit in order to manage capital, investors may be in for a significant wait before bank dividends return to levels seen in the past. 16.01.2022 Biden versus Trump and investment markets........ The US election has significant potential to add to volatility in investment markets. A Trump victory will mean more of the same and would likely initially be more positive for US than global and Australian shares. By contrast a Biden victory may add to short-term volatility but this is likely to be short lived as there is no reason to expect a weaker economy and hence share market under a Biden presidency and he is likely to ...take a less disruptive approach to trade and foreign policy. 13.01.2022 Legislation for JobKeeper Payment has now passed. What you need to know. The successful passage of the governments JobKeeper package through parliament means an estimated $130 billion will be paid to hundreds of thousands of businesses to subsidise the wages of about 6 million employees.... Here is who will get the payments and when: Who qualifies? Businesses that have lost 30 per cent of their turnover, or 50 per cent if they usually bring in more than $1 billion annually, in a month-long period compared with last year. Charities that have lost 15 per cent of their turnover in the same period. It covers full-time, part-time and casual staff, but casuals need to have been with the business for a year. It also includes sole traders, which covers gig economy and self-employed workers. Workers on temporary visas are not covered, unless they are New Zealanders on special category (subclass 444) visas. How much? Businesses will receive $1500 a fortnight which is 70 per cent of the median Australian wage per eligible employee. If the employee usually makes more than $1500, then the employer is expected to make up the gap. If the worker has been stood down, the employer need only pass on the $1500. Workers who usually earn less than $1500 a fortnight still get the full amount. Employers only have to pay superannuation on any top-up amounts above the $1500. Employers can change their staff hours to whatever amount would bring their pro rata pay down to $1500 per fortnight, provided COVID-19 means there is less work for that worker compared with usual circumstances. Annual leave The payments can be used to subsidise holiday pay. Eligible employers can also direct staff to take leave under changes to the Fair Work Act passed with the JobKeeper program. This has to be done by agreement between the boss and employee, but must not leave the latter with less than two weeks holiday remaining in their leave balance. How is it paid? Employers will pay staff the JobKeeper payment through their existing payroll systems. They will then be paid in arrears by the Australian Tax Office monthly. The first payments wont be received until the first week of May, but they will be backdated to March 30. The Australian Banking Association says businesses who will struggle to pay staff until May can apply to use the JobKeeper program as a basis to seek credit to tide them over until then. www.crothersaa.com.au Financial Review #jobkeeper #ato #mygov #smallbusiness #scomo

09.01.2022 Love this :) So, who else owns a Zoom Shirt? With video calls the new norm, workers are confessing to what the New York Times calls the Zoom Shirt a top that can be hastily pulled on just before the camera turns on to help maintain a corporate image. (Even if, like the mullet, its actually business on top and party down bottom.) Some have a one-off Zoom Shirt, while others say they rotate their Zoom Shirts. 01.01.2022 The increasing economic threat from Coronavirus - What does it all mean for investors? The rapidity of the fall in share market has been scary. In our view the key things for investors to bear in mind are as follows: Periodic sharp falls in share markets are healthy and normal. With the long-term trend ultimately remaining up & providing higher returns than other more stable assets. Selling shares or switching to a more conservative investment strategy after a major fall... just locks in a loss. When shares fall, they are cheaper and offer higher long-term return prospects. So, the key is to look for opportunities the pullback provides. Its impossible to time the bottom but one way to do it is to average in over time. While shares have fallen, dividends from the market havent. Companies like to smooth their dividends over time they never go up as much as earnings in the good times and so rarely fall as much in the bad times. Shares and other related assets bottom at the point of maximum bearishness, ie, just when you feel most negative towards them. The best way to stick to an appropriate long-term investment strategy, let alone see the opportunities that are thrown up in rough times, is to turn down the noise. www.crothersaa.com.au See more
