The Security Licensing & E...nforcement Directorate are warning the public about unlicensed operators who offer cheap locksmithing services. A recent internet scam has been running where mobile locksmiths offer cheap prices to open your car or your home. These people do not hold a security licence, and may only be there to scope out your house. Any locksmith who helps you open or change the locks in your home must have a security licence. This is so the police can perform probity checks to give the public confidence that the locksmith they are using is qualified and legitimate. If you do need a locksmith to help you, a simple search on https://www.onegov.nsw.gov.au/PublicRegister/ will help you check that the person is verified. Any business that offers locksmithing services must also have a Master Licence in NSW . If they don't have a licence, or don't want to show you their licence, then the alarm bells should start ringing.
