09.01.2022 Dear Residents I apologize for my frank response on this matter, however its growing tiresome having to explain continuously that our nations resources fall under 3 separate levels of government and not all roads lead to council. Please feel free to share my frank response to what ever group is currently now attempting to lay blame at councils feet. The Leslie Harrison dam is a resource administered by the QUEENSLAND STATE GOVERNMENT not local government/council or rate paye...rs. Managing state-owned dams and weirs. The Department of Resources owns and manages 21 dams and weirs across Queensland which provide a range of services to the community including irrigation, rural water supply, firefighting, and recreation. The remainder of the Queensland Government's water resources and pipelines are managed by Seqwater (Leslie Harrison Dam) and SunWater. SeqWater: Seqwater is the Queensland state Governments Bulk Water Supply Authority responsible for delivering safe, secure and cost-effective bulk water supply for more than three million people across South East Queensland. Seqwater also provides essential flood mitigation services, manages catchment health, and offers community recreation facilities and provides water for irrigation to about 1,200 farmers across seven water supply schemes. Seqwater is one of the largest water business with the most geographically spread and diverse asset base of any capital city water authority. Council ramps up lobbying on State water pricing. January 25, 2018 Redland City Council yesterday voted to ramp up its continued fight against the cost of bulk water charged by State Government. Redland City Mayor Karen Williams said Council had a long history of challenging State-imposed increases to the cost of water supply. While Council is responsible for distributing water, many residents don’t realise we buy bulk water from Seqwater and have no control over this bulk water price, Cr Williams said, In recent years, Redland ratepayers have endured the highest bulk water price increases in South East Queensland to achieve a ‘common’ bulk water price set by the State Government. We just went through a state election and one candidate offered to lobby to have the gates put back on Leslie Harrison Dam and yet everyone voted for the same people who took the gates off, so it must be what everyone wanted. The water we use as consumers is OWNED BY THE QUEENSLAND STATE GOVERNMENT AND THE COUNCIL HAS TO BUY THE WATER OFF THE STATE GOVERNMENT. The state government implemented a 6% increase on bulk water prices which directly effects your water consumption price. For more information: www.seqwater.com.au See more

01.01.2022 Dear residents As you are aware, on Monday evening the City had a significant rain event which resulted in flooding and inundation of many areas. The Bureau of Meteorology rainfall gauge in Alexandra Hills recorded 118mm of rainfall in a 1 hour period and council expects that rainfall may have been higher in other areas of the City. Stormwater and sewer networks were not designed to accommodate events of this size and hence this event exceeded the capacity of both in some a...reas. To better deal with the large volume of enquires from residents affected by the rain event, council teams have to prioritise the issues with both clean up and investigations from the planning team. The priorities will initially be that clean up and investigating will be where residents have been directly affected with water in the habitable areas of their homes. This means that home inundation, followed by infrastructure, followed by overland flow with respect to stormwater only (sewerage is a different story of course and will always be priorotised). Council teams understand events such as this can be destressing to the people they affect. I hope that this information provided gives you an understanding of the magnitude of the event.
