25.01.2022 TRIVIA TUESDAY Who am I? I was the General Manager if Centenary Estates, ans I have an oval named in my honour.

25.01.2022 St Catherine's United Football is an incredible local club and yesterday, I had the pleasure of presenting the 10 year service award to Chad Ryan and Mark Southall. Thank you both for your dedication to the club and the many volunteer hours you have given to this community. It was also a privilege to announce the winner of the Club Person of The Year Award, recognising a club member who has strived above and beyond the normal call of duty for the club in a voluntary capacity.... This winner of this award was Mark Southall. I wanted to share the winning nomination: As a long standing member of St Cats, Mark has coached multiple teams over many years and is currently coaching an under 8s. While Mark plays in the over 40s, he always offers to fill in for other teams (multiple times throughout the season) when they are short, sometimes backing up to play for over 30s straight after his over 40s game. He also puts his hand up to referee, whenever needed. Most weekends he is down at the field watching and supporting older St Cats teams, even though he has no family member playing. Mark is always there to help out; on field set ups, working bees and whenever someone needs a hand, including doing maintenance on the club house recently. He is very passionate about the game and ensuring the club provides a caring and supportive environment for kids. He loves the family-oriented community of St Cats and would be lost without it. Despite suffering medical challenges recently, he always has a smile on his face. Soccer has, in a sense, saved him from going completely around the twist. A very deserving Club Person of the Year. Congratulations Mark! Thanks must also go to your family for enabling you to be so committed to the club!

24.01.2022 Yesterday, the Neville Bonner CityCat took to the waters of the Brisbane River, proudly carrying the Aboriginal flag. Born near the Tweed and growing up in Ipswich, Neville became the first Indigenous person to serve in Australias federal parliament from 1971 to 1983. Senator Neville Bonner, a Jagera man, was an exceptional local, who helped shape Queensland. It is only fitting to see this new double-decker CityCat named in his honour. ... All CityCats are named using Aboriginal place names along the Brisbane River, with the exceptions being CityCat 19, the Spirit of Brisbane, which recognises the flood volunteers who assisted Brisbane residents and business owners affected by the 2011 January floods and now, the Neville Bonner. #citycat #nevillebonner #indigenous #firstnations #brisbaneriver #exceptionalaustralian #jamboreeward #discoverbrisbane #brisbaneanyday #bneanyday #visitbrisbane #thisisbrisbane #ilovemycity #rivercity #brisbanecitycouncil #crsarahhutton #teamschrinner #adrianschrinner #brisbetter #betterbrisbane #betterbne #brisbane #bne #brisbanecityhall #cityhall

18.01.2022 With rain on the forecast over the coming months Brisbane, we are encouraging residents to prepare their homes and businesses for severe weather. 15.01.2022 This morning, I joined the Rotary Club of Brisbane Centenary for their breakfast meeting. They are a great group of local people, making a difference locally, nationally and internationally. As you may be aware, their signature event, the Rotary Fun Run, needed to be virtual this year. They are planning an even bigger and better event in May 2021! Some of their other projects include:... Renovating the palliative care outdoor area at The Wesley Hospital Providing meals for homeless through Beefbank Supporting youth with refugee background through Pushing Barriers Supporting the Nausori Village Kindy in Fiji. Keen to get involved? Contact Neville on ph: 0477 762 044 or email: [email protected] They are happy to take any help you can give! For some people that means occasionally turning a sausage at a fundraising BBQ, but for others that means planning major projects or travelling overseas to participate in humanitarian aid programs. #rotaryclubcentenary #beefbank #wesleyhospital #Pushingbarriers #nausorivillage #makingadifference #changinglives #rotary

01.01.2022 On 18 August 1966, Australian soldiers fought in one of their biggest battles during the Vietnam War, the Battle of Long Tan. The brutal action saw 18 Australians killed and 25 wounded. Today, our Centenary Suburbs RSL Sub Branch coordinated a ceremony to pause and reflect on the bravery, teamwork and endurance that Australians displayed throughout the Vietnam War. I was unable to attend due to Council Chambers, however, my thoughts and prayers were with the many locals who p...roudly served our country. We honour those who did not return and those returned home wounded, ill or injured. Those who lost their lives in the years since they returned home; and still carry the physical and emotional scars of their service. None will be forgotten; nor the families and loved ones who supported them.
