25.01.2022 On behalf of the City of Kingston, I wish all those celebrating the Festival of Lights a happy, peaceful, and blessed Hanukkah. I would also like to recognise the important contributions that our vibrant and growing Jewish community make to Kingston. Chag Hanukkah Sameach!

21.01.2022 The Nazi swastika is a symbol that for many people triggers terrible memories of racial hatred, anti-Semitism, oppression and genocide. As we all know, Australians joined with our allies in the Second World War to stop fascism and to ensure the Nazis were ultimately defeated. It is for these reasons I was shocked and appalled that someone would choose to wear that symbol at a green grocers in Moorabbin. It is incumbent upon all of us to call out this behaviour. It’s just no...t welcome in our community. Kingston Council deeply is committed to fostering a welcoming and inclusive community which actively engages with multicultural communities and celebrates cultural and religious diversity. Council plays an important role in promoting equality, mutual respect and participation in civic, social and economic life.

19.01.2022 It was a great honour to attend the Parkdale Gift today now in its fourth year! A huge congratulations to Tim Mason for all the work he has put in to make this one of the country’s premier, must-visit events on the athletics calendar. Kington is proud to host this meet at the Gerry Green Reserve, and to also contribute a $10,000 community grant, which was matched by the event’s major sponsor, the Bendigo Bank. ... Good luck to all of the athletes who completing and especially to those are training ahead of the Tokyo Olympics.

14.01.2022 Community members are being asked to let Council know whether they think the city’s Local Law should be updated to allow backyard fire pits in Kingston. Council has an open mind on the question and councillors are eager to understand if the community supports this change. We want to know your thoughts on the potential environmental and health impacts of fire pits, we also want to know if the relaxation and enjoyment warrants the proposed change.... Many people may not be aware that under the city’s current regulations, residents cannot light a fire on their own property to create heat outdoors without a permit. Please take the time to complete the survey at the Your Kingston Your Say webpage. The consultation closes on Friday 18 December. https://www.yourkingstonyoursay.com.au/backyard-fire-pits

10.01.2022 I had the honour of presiding over the Eisteddfod By The Bay Annual General Meeting tonight. 2020 was a tough year for a lot of community organisations, particularly for organisations such as the ETBT who faced many obstacles while delivering their program - virtually - whilst Melbourne was in stage 4 lockdown. My sincere congratulations go to Jill Page, President, Andrea Crawford, Vice President, and all of the committee members for their dedication and hard work to ensure... that the show went on! Congratulations also to the incoming committee who will carry the Eisteddfod into its 66th year.

09.01.2022 Yesterday, Cr Steve Staikos - Bunjil Ward - City of Kingston and I were invited to look at the progress and get up to date on the plans for the development of t...he space at the corner of Elder South Street. I am extremely excited to get to share these plans and invite residents feedback on the proposed community spaces very soon. Most residents in Clarinda will have recognised this place as a bit of a sore point due to the high levels of dirt blowing into their yards and the dirt on mud on the road. I heard your concerns and have raised them with our officers and thankfully we have some good news to share. The park space is nearing its completion which means there will be less trucks carrying and spilling dirt onto the road and this activity will be winding up. In regards to the loose dirt flying into peoples homes, as of Monday seeding for the grass will begin meaning things will not be shifting and we will get a beautiful open park space that will be enjoyed by everyone very soon. #ElderSouthStreet #kingston #Karkarook #cityofkingston
