18.01.2022 MCDOWALL BUSH CARE GROUP - VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY SATURDAY 20 JUNE Habitat Brisbane is a volunteer program which assists local bushcare groups in restoring native vegetation. Our local group, McDowall Bush Care Group is looking for volunteers to help out this Saturday from 8:30 AM. The meeting point is at the bottom of the set of stairs leading down from Van Dyke Crescent in Speilberg Street Park. The group is working as part of the Habitat Brisbane Program in partnership w...ith Council to progressively remove weeds and undertake planting to assist the natural regeneration along Cabbage Tree Creek. McDowall Bush Care Group hold working bees on the 3rd Saturday of every month. They do some fantastic work in our part of Brisbane, and also meet on a social basis - its a great way to get involved in our community and meet some new friendly faces. 16.01.2022 Planned Burn - John Goss Reserve, Aspley Brisbane City Council will be undertaking a planned burn tomorrow, Wednesday 26 August at John Goss Reserve in Aspley. The burn will be located on the north side of the Reserve between Maundrell Terrace and Kenna Street and behind residences on Ashley Road. Smoke may be visible from Maundrell Terrace and surrounding streets and settle in surrounding suburbs including Aspley, Chermside West, and Albany Creek overnight. Tracks ...in the vicinity may be closed for up to two weeks after the burn. Managing fire is vital for protecting our homes and maintaining environmental habitats. Queenslands bushfire season traditionally runs from August to October/November each year, so it is important to be prepared. 13.01.2022 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED - DRIVE FOR LIFE, STAFFORD Salvos Drive for Life YOS Brisbane is a community-based learner driver mentoring program operating through the Stafford Youth Outreach Program. Drive for Life supports young people by pairing learner drivers with a Volunteer Mentor driver to help them improve their driving confidence and skills in order to enable them to achieve their Driver Licence. Drive for Life provide the cars, insurance and workshops. ... The program needs more Volunteer Mentors - the minimum commitment is two hours per week supervising a learner driver who has recorded 30 log book hours. Volunteers are supported by an induction program, and strict hygiene measures are in place. 13.01.2022 ROAD RESURFACING - MAUNDRELL TERRACE Council will be carrying out repairs and asphalt resurfacing along Maundrell Terrace (from Albany Creek Road to Terrence Street) from 10 June to 30 June (7pm to 5am, week nights only). Local residents and businesses have been notified of these works, but make sure your vehicle isnt parked on the road within the work zone during construction hours. Council is working to help make suburban streets smoother and safer to use, and every effort will be made to minimise impacts on the local community whilst these important works are carried out.

11.01.2022 Brisbane City Councils memorial at Pinnaroo Lawn Cemetery in Bridgeman Downs is home to a Missing Persons Memorial Garden, which provides a place for reflection and hope for the families and friends of missing loved ones who have not returned. Earlier this week I spoke in the Council Chamber about National Missing Persons week, and on Sunday I was privileged to attend a memorial service at Pinnaroo to commemorate this week. This was the first time Councils cemeteries team... has held a memorial service for National Missing Persons Week, and Id like to acknowledge Councillor Vicki Howard for her support of this becoming an annual event. It was wonderful to join attendees representing the QPS Missing Persons Unit and ChaplainWatch, as well as Bruce and Denise Morcombe from the Daniel Morcombe Foundation. Were gearing-up the Good Neighbour Clean-Up scheme, to ensure residents who are over 60, are frail or have a disability and have no family or friend network who can help them in the home, will be able to ring the Council call centre on 3403 8888 and book our contractors to pick up their unwanted items for free.

02.01.2022 The Downfall Creek Bushland Centre is now open again from Monday to Thursday (9am to 4pm). A maximum of 20 people are allowed in the display space at the moment; the wonderful staff and volunteers are available to make your visit memorable and answer any questions you may have about Brisbanes amazing natural environment and outdoor recreational opportunities. The Free Native Plant Nursery is also now open and the Composting Hub will be reopening soon. Keep a lookout for updates about some of the fantastic school holiday activities which will be coming up!
