SHANNON Cruise Offers Team Leader One of my favourite Cunard moments was in Gibraltar. I laugh now, but at the time I got a fright!! We had sailed from Athens on the brand new QM2 just after the 2004 Olympics. Security was on high alert, September 11 was still fresh in everyone’s minds. When we arrived in Gibraltar is was their National Day. I had been out in the morning to have a look around and decided to have a sunbake back on board. I got my spot, had my book and was starting to relax when I saw a fighter jet above me, close enough to see the pilot. Of course, my first thought is we’re under attack!. But soon realized it was a RAF jet from the Air Force Base. Cheeky pilot probably had a good laugh at the look on my face. Those things move so quick and I didn’t hear anything until he was gone! 24.01.2022 WHAT HAVE THE TEAM BEEN UP TO IN ISOLATION Laura Retail Team Leader 2020 A year I won’t be forgetting any time soon!... I was lucky enough to start the year in January with a 3 night cruise with my colleagues. Squeezed in 1 holiday before they all got cancelled! I have been enjoying working from home, life has such a slower pace now that we are part time and there are no commitments! Most of my time is filled with exercise, cooking, cleaning, gardening & reading. Can you see my picture of my homemade Nutella croissants!? DELICIOUS! The most exciting news of all though is that I am pregnant with my first child! We are expecting to meet our baby girl in March 2021! Alessandro & I are super excited and it’s been such a silver lining during these strange times especially for us Melbournians! We have also started renovating our bathroom and laundry so that has kept us very busy on weekends. Thank goodness Bunnings is still open for click and collect Hope you all manage to keep yourselves healthy and happy and very much looking forward to travel opening back up for all of us!

21.01.2022 WHAT HAVE THE TEAM BEEN UP TO DURING ISOLATION? Shannon Cruise Offers Team Leader I have seen the definition of isolation as, the complete separation from others. Do I agree? Not at all. Yes, life is certainly very different, much slower, not as loud, but not cut off to the world.... Thankfully, the internet has played an integral part keeping in contact with family and friends. Also, the ability to have wine delivered within one hour, so convenient. So between Netflix parties, group chats, cleaning the house, waiting for books to arrive, trying to tame weeds, developing a Solitaire habit and experimenting in the kitchen, how have I kept somewhat sane? Lucky for me, my best friend and I are within the same 5km radius. Our daily walks have been so important, a half hour of therapy for both of us, 1.5m apart, sometimes with matching masks! Sadly, not everyone is as lucky as us. When our manger, Alex mentioned he was growing a mullet in support of the Black Dog Institute, I knew I was up for the challenge. Business at the front, party at the back they say. Hopefully I can get my hair long enough in the back for a good party. We all need a good party :) This month Alex and I are raising funds for mental health. By the end of September we hope to be rocking some awesome 80s hair and raise funds to help those who have not been as fortunate as us. 21.01.2022 WHAT HAVE THE TEAM BEEN UP TO DURING ISOLATION Alex - Retail Manager I hope you have all been making the most of our altered state and I wonder if I will look back on this time seeing some positive outcomes. We have all been forced to re-evaluate our priorities and come to realise the everyday freedoms we once took for granted are not a certainty. The non-material things; the downtime, quietness and stillness are remarkable and for that I am thankful.... During lockdown and as a consequence of increased personal time I’ve got involved in my friend's start-up face mask business ‘Masks at Will’ overseeing finance, marketing and promotions. We have had fun creating something no one wants to wear! I have included images the latest range of beautiful travel-inspired face masks. (Please comment below if you would like more information) I’ve spent a lot of time working on my fitness losing 17kgs, home-schooling my sons and relaxing at home like I’m on holidays. I’ve enjoyed catching up with concerned and caring friends, colleagues and clients who’ve touched base regularly throughout so we can talk all things travel. It has been very tough for the travel industry with all domestic and international borders closed. We are hopeful that Australian borders will open by Christmas so at least we can visit family and friends soon. I have been busy creating new Australian tours for 2021. We have some fantastic music and painting tours to every state in Australia in 2021. Even though we can’t travel internationally at the moment it is a great chance to visit some remarkable destinations in our own country. Just before Victoria’s second lockdown we managed to have a short holiday to Phillip Island. It was fantastic to be able to walk along the beaches with our dog Louie, go to the local Italian restaurant Pino’s and spend time with family. This month the Travelrite staff are participating in Steptember, a chance to get outside in the beautiful Melbourne spring weather and count your steps. 06.01.2022 WHAT HAVE THE TEAM BEEN UP TO DURING ISOLATION? Teneille Groups Consultant Hi Everyone!... Its been a very odd time getting used to staying home and not having the freedom we usually have especially during our Melbourne lockdown 2.0. Since being in lockdown I have found my new favourite slice recipe, Coconut Chocolate Slice! It’s a must try and have given the recipe for you all to try. Between making the slice and getting in the daily exercise I’ve been setting up a new house that I recently moved into, encouraging my veggie garden to grow, watching the footy (both AFL & NRL) and enjoying a wine by the fire outside on a Saturday night. Like Mick, I was lucky enough to squeeze in a holiday in February before we went into lockdown. I had travelled to the Philippines which was an amazing experience and topped it off with a stopover in Singapore which was my first time visiting and highly recommend for anyone travelling through to stop for a night or 2. I cannot wait to get away to some warmer weather and visit family again hopefully in the not too distant future. Take care and stay safe everyone!

Well times have certainly changed especially for those of us who are so passionate about the travel industry. With the numbers dropping I can see a bright light at the end of the tunnel now and I look forward to the time when we can travel freely again. I am fortunate enough to live in Torquay on the Surf coast and I have been making the most of exploring every inch of our beautiful beaches each day with my husband and our dog Lucy. We have also been busy renovating our house and garden which now looks fabulous. Having worked for Travelrite for over 20 years I am really looking forward to tour managing again and I really hope to see you on one of the many Australian and New Zealand tours Travelrite has planned for 2021.
