24.01.2022 Keeping myself busy in isolation!. The mushrooms are the best we have ever tasted and the olives are on day 3 of a new way to preserve them. The raspberries are for granddaughter Matilda.

24.01.2022 Coming events include our Bonsai workshop on 8th November and Long Luncheon on 29th Nov. Bookings are essential for both events and more details are available on our website www.lavenderatlaggan.com.au.

24.01.2022 Just another day in the garden. The olives are being processed , the raspberries are for Matilda and the field mushrooms are the best we have ever tasted. Stay safe.

23.01.2022 I am having a wonderful morning babysitting 2 delightful little children. We have done cocopops, now we are on sweet treats!!!!!! , but OMG they have as lot of energy dont they? Yesterday I made apricot jam with the apricot kernals, so it is "family" jam. The kernals contain a minute amount of poison, but the family complain if there are not a few in each jar. Thank goodness for the vege garden...it is still producing masses of beans, zucchini, tomatoes and corn and copious herbs,

23.01.2022 Lets get excited! With regulations still in force about social distancing we have planned a number of intimate (max 12 people) dinners with a difference. Why not try our degustation themed fine dining experiences? For more information about the dinners and other events see https://lavenderatlaggan.weebly.com/events1.html

22.01.2022 On this day in 1933 2 airplanes flew over Mt. Everest. Doris Day was born in 1924 and Jesse James died in 1882. We have had more rain and it is getting colder at night, so today we are wood gathering and as I found a little book "From the Heart" with a "Collection of Vows, Blessings and Wishes", I will include something each day on this post. "Love feels no burden" (from "The Imitation of Christ").-Tomas a Kempis.

22.01.2022 The smell of fresh bread is very enticing, but not so good for the waist line, but it has been fun testing different recipes. In between cooking and gardening I found a "Book of Days", so here is the entry for 31 March. "The Eiffel Tower was inaugurated in 1889, Newfoundland became a province of Canada in 1949, Franz Joseph Haydn was born in 1732 and John Constable (artist) died in 1631."

21.01.2022 My good friend (Binksy) sent me a you tube link to watch."When you go down to the woods today"...so I watched it and shed a tear or two. Today I discovered who the cellist was/is...Stefan Hauser. Instead of Facebooking sad stories, (especially during these days) YouTube some of this wonderful mans works...he is truly amazing and so uplifting. Heres to shedding a tear or to utter beauty!!!

20.01.2022 I am ashamed to be an Aussie! What is going on? Selfish people visiting country towns and "stealing" food from people who do not have access to larger towns with multiple supermarkets. For goodness sake behave yourselves. I suppose this message will fall on deaf ears,,,sad isnt it? To all those trying to maintain self respect....your day will come, the others wont. Love and life is all.

20.01.2022 some of the things you see when isolating! Jack the dog sitting inside a glass door and the smallest mouse you have ever seen sitting outside, eyeballing each other for a least 1/2 an hour...neither moved or I suspect even blinked. We have received lovely phone calls from family and excitement from the Giles household where Rasmine kept up the Easter egg hunt tradition. Today Michael and I celebrate our 54th wedding anniversary and I wonder where the time went.

20.01.2022 Is this my function center? "The girls" (that is my daughter and granddaughter) are here and OMG it is all happening.....wall washing, filling in holes etc etc...but as if that is not bad, the paint selection took 1 hour, so expect the unexpected! And here is a free plug for Goulburn Bunnings...the assistance was amazing. THANK YOU Bunnings. Here's hoping all will be in order by Saturday. To make up for the mess is the joy of having these precious family members here.

19.01.2022 Cooking with Clive is ALWAYS a popular event where visitors learn how to cook super simple, healthy meals with fresh herbs and produce. At 1.30, Brian will be telling us about growing food in small places followed by Lavender in Food and the Household with Judith at 2.00.

19.01.2022 At last we have colour! Lavender lovers! Please see www.lavenderatlaggan.com.au for opening hours and dates. Please note that we request that you make a booking on our website [email protected] to help us control the number of visitors.

19.01.2022 After our sunny days, today is windy and cold. Some lovely folk who booked for the Saturday Night French degustation dinner, . have opted for Saturday lunch instead, with less inclusions ($40.00pp)...BYO, SO! if you are interested please make a booking.

18.01.2022 So wonderful to have rain. The gardens are smiling again and we are wondering if we will get any lavender so late in the season. The Festival was a wonderful success, thanks to the many people who visited us and the special people who were involved in the displays. February 14th starts our workshops. Leanne Kelly will be teaching us to make rusty wire rushes, so hurry and let me know if you are interested. I should have the cost soon. PLs email me if you are interested [email protected]

15.01.2022 A day with a 3 & 5 year old makes for a wondrous day...how we forget the beauty of small minds and how amazing they are! We had the morning in the Vegetable garden and came back with about 4 ks of beans, tomatoes, sweetcorn, zucchini and rhubarb. We weeded and planted sweet pea seeds and then they went to the tip sitting on "pops knee on the lawn mower. The lolly got a workout too. Today I am preparing beans for the deepfreeze and cooking rhubarb.

15.01.2022 A HUGE THANKYOU to everyone who joined us over the Festival weekend. There are so many lovely people who we meet when they visit and they always share great stories. It has been a difficult year with the drought etc., but your presence on the weekend certainly brightened our spirits. We look forward to seeing many of you again when the lavender fields are purple. Through your generosity and on your behalf we are donating $318.00 to the RFS

15.01.2022 Thank-you so much to everyone who came to the Lavender, Herb and Chilli Festival at the weekend. It was wonderful to welcome so many lovely people to Crystal Brook Gardens and Lavender Farm to enjoy our exquisite lavender! And thank-you also everyone for your co-operation with helping us all to stay Covid Safe!

14.01.2022 Wonderful rain, muddy roads and overflowing dam! Who would have believed this? BUT it is all systems go, come rain, hail or shine for the Garden Party on 22nd February (3-5.00pm. Help make this fundraising afternoon a great success for the Crookwell Hospital Auxiliary and Mary Gilmore Society. Tickets are available at Upper Lachlan Visitors centre ($25.00pp). It is BYO alcohol. A wonderful afternoon tea will be served. There is a prize for the best ladies/gents hat.

14.01.2022 Let's get excited! With regulations still in force about social distancing we have planned a number of intimate (max 12 people) dinners with a difference. Why not try our degustation themed fine dining experiences? For more information about the dinners and other events see https://lavenderatlaggan.weebly.com/events1.html

11.01.2022 I know! I missed the 4th April, but I had a very productive day in the kitchen cooking. Today 5th April the clocks gave us an extra hours of sleep and I have been going through a box of memorabilia. Many wonderful memories of childrens letters and photos, school reports (including mine) and even our wedding cards. O my!. Now to the past! Oscar Wilde was arrested in London in 1895. Rioting in USA following the death of Martin Luther King (4th April 1968). Casanova was born in Venice in 1724, Spencer Tracy was born in 1900 and Gregory Peck in 1916. In 1964 Douglas Macarthur died along with Howard Hughes in 1976. "Infinite love is an attribute of the brave, in fact it is their all" Mahama Ghandi

10.01.2022 ttps://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=marcelito+pomoy&view=detail&mid=2CB75C8E315F2134A8662CB75C8E315F2134A866&FORM=VIRE Check this out...it is amazing

09.01.2022 A small selection of lavender bags that we have for sale in our small shop. The bags sell for $10.00 each and are filled with lavender grown and harvested on our farm. We are open for visitors on most weekends between 1100am and 4.00pm, but please make a reservation. Visit our shop at https://lavenderatlaggan.weebly.com/shop.html

09.01.2022 We are so lucky to have a great garden. More beans have been prepared for the deepfreeze for later use and today I am making passata. (Yes I have enough pasta!). Have been reading some "old-fashioned" recipe books and they have some amazing recipes that I had forgotten about. I even have a very tatty original Margaret Fulton. Visited the seniors hour at Woolies today...all very orderly and most stock available. I have also sourced some bakers flour and yeast, so we are pretty self sufficient. Stay well everyone.

08.01.2022 We are open for visitors October 2/3/4/5/8/9/10/11 from 100am to 4.00pm. Bookings must be made by email with name, phone ctc, date , number of guests, and time: [email protected] Devonshire tea and light lunches available. We look forward to welcoming you. If you have children let them wear comfy clothes so they can run around.

08.01.2022 More information from the "Book of Days". In 1413 Henry V of England was crowned , the Germans invaded Denmark and Norway in 1940 and the USA made Winston Churchill an honorary citizen in 1963. Sir Robert Helpmann was born in 1909 and Edward 4th of England died in 1484. With a message "From the Heart" is a message of hope, "In the future, happy occasions will come as surely as the morning". Between breadmaking, cooking, weeding the garden and cleaning out "paper", more memor...abilia has surfaced. What fun we have had reading our Primary School reports! In amongst the papers I found a PIX (remember this magazine?) page 36, July 15 1961 article about "Australias greatest adventurer", Sir Hubert Wilkins. I had never heard of him, but have found a book about his adventures. Stay safe and stay well.

07.01.2022 The Salvia gardens are a kaleidoscope of colour at this time. The photo is Salvia leucantha Harrys Red. in the new salvia garden. Today the pickled eggplant and olives will be bottled and then we need to wait for 1 month to see how successful the Sicilian way of "fast" pickling works. I found an Asian recipe book, so with the help of lovely neighbours who shopped for a range of ingredients, I plan to start today with Spiced Honey Chicken wings and pork dumplings. Stay safe and stay well.

05.01.2022 If you have a garden you probably have much bounty to harvest, so I will be putting some ideas on the Crystal Brook web page in the recipe section to help make your days in isolation more fruitful. For the children, I will add some easy comfort food to feed the hungry mouths. Keep checking as I get time to update. Stay well and remember to tell people that you love them.

05.01.2022 Sometimes I lose the plot! The Garden Party is between 3.00 and 7.00pm. Today I reviewed some exciting new canapes and Mocktails for you to taste. Hope to see you all

04.01.2022 Just a little video of our farm and what we do: https://vimeo.com/413391432

04.01.2022 We are lucky here in Australia with so much fresh air and with everyone doing the right thing, it is to be hoped that we can rid this wonderful country of the virus, so that we can all return to reality. Keep cosy and learn to love what we have. On this day in 1860 the first Parliament met in Italy at Turin . Charlemagne, Holy Roman Emperor was born in 742 as was Hans Christian Anderson ( 1805), Samuel Morse, inventor of Morse code died in 1872.

04.01.2022 It is Easter Friday and some 54 years ago I was preparing for my wedding. Today is a special day my beloved mothers birthday (1931) and the sad loss of two special aunts, but in this time we look to the future with family and friends. We continue to self isolate with messages of love from family and friends..how lucky we are!. Stay safe and look to a bright and happy future sharing love with family and friendsulous letters from our beautiful daughters (Michelle & Elizabeth) and paintings from the grandchildren. I do hope they appreciate the "gifts" of memorabilia that I present to the grandchildren on their behalf!!!!! Stay safe and look to a bright and happy future sharin love with family and friends.

02.01.2022 I have just been reading some of the comments. Re state of garden...we are in the midst of a drought and with no water of our own (borrowing from next door), I think our gardens have coped fairly well. The rain has made a difference. Re the "old fashioned distillation contraption" The still is designed as an "artisanal" or "traditional" still, thus its "Old fashioned" look is how it is meant to look. Thankyou to everyone who has supported us during this very difficult time.

02.01.2022 The gardens are looking marvellous, even though the weeding is a battle. We welcome people to walk about the gardens in the fresh air. There is no charge, but the function centre, shop and toilets are not open and no food is available. People can access the gardens from the driveway side. Please check availability by email.

02.01.2022 So its April 1st...commonly called April Fools Day, but there is much conjecture about the origin of the name, was it from the Roman "Aprilis" or as the month was dedicated to Venus, the goddess of love, "Aphrodite"?.....thus the month is associated with love and fertility. On this day in 1891 the title "Commonwealth of Australia" was adopted and the British Royal Airforce came into being (1918). Stay well and observe self isolation rules

02.01.2022 OMG when in isolation you forget about dates. Today the butcher reminded me that Easter is next weekend....usually a time for family get togethers, but how lucky we are that they are only a phone call away. Would you believe that there was an earthquake in London in 1580 that badly damaged some of the most famous cathedrals. Robespierre was born in France in 1758 and Houdini was born in Wisconsin in 1874. It is a real history lesson isnt it? For the day! "Love is a portion ...of the soul itself and it is of the same nature as the celestial breathing of the atmosphere of paradise" Today was another busy one. I prepared 11 packages of our beans for the deepfreeze, and cooked mushrooms and kidneys (in wine of course) and beef and kidney pies. (Kidneys supplied by wonderful neighbours. Stay safe and think about our wonderful country and people. See more

02.01.2022 Here are same great pics from last years Festival. See 2021 event details below.
